    Unit 9 elk help

Well said Arizona Guide. IMO sharing general locations and info is fine here but if you have specific info it would be better sent via pm. I have learned alot from this site and find most people very helpful. Hopefully it will continue. Keven

    Your First Rifle?

My first big gun was a marlin lever action in 35 remington. It was a solid gun but I never killed anything with it except for my shoulder ( I was 12 ). Keven

    mounting

I've done my own mounts for awhile now but they sure can't compete against a professionals. I think if you harvest a real trophy that you want in your home spend the money and let a good taxidermist do it. If you have some hides and old antlers laying around you can practice. Most of my first mounts are so bad my wife won't let them in the house so I have a garage full of stuff I need to remount. I like messing around with the stuff so its not so bad but it would have been cheaper to just pay a taxidermist. All the supplies add up. I have an airbrush, paints, clays, epoxies, glues, tanning chemicals, mounting stands, compressor, hide flesher, etc.,etc. When I kill old mossyhorn I'm taking him to Marc Plunkett. Keven

    last years goat

You do good work Scottyboy. I do my own and can't get them to turn out that good. I have the most trouble with setting the eyes so now I just order the form with them preset. Those are some big antelope are they from Arizona? Keven

    I FOUND HIM

I hope you do get the MONSTER this year Jack. You're definitely putting your time in. I would have a hard time letting a 110 incher walk away unless I KNEW a bigger one was in the area buts thats just me. I think your right though about antler growth this season. Some big ones have been taken already and I know there are still some MONSTERS out there. I'm pulling for you, GOOD LUCK. Keven

  22. I've kind of gone in a circle. I started with a rifle and then switched to archery and now am back to rifle. I think chasing them around with a bow makes you a better rifle hunter. Keven

    The .223

My first coues was with a .223 and it was a real eye opener for me. The bullet hit a rib bone and stopped. Luckily the bone broke and punctered the lung. It was several miserable hours tracking him down. I will never use a .223 on big game again. Keven
