The Game and Fish doesn't care if it is a raghorn bull no matter how it is killed. Find a dead 400 inch bull and its a different story. They sell these at their auction. I have seen a 400 inch plus bull go for close to 10 thousand dollars ( can't remember the actual price) The guy that found had it confiscated and could not afford to buy it back. Why should I give something up that I might find once in a lifetime. Heres what you do. Bring it home, clean it up and tell Game and Fish your gandpa killed it years ago. Its not fair to give something up that they are going to sell.

Secret to painless skull boiling?
Whitehntr replied to Redbeard's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Alright guys I will let you in on my secret. Go to your local grocery store, almost all stores have it. It comes ina yellow box and is about 10 inches tall. It is made by Arm and Hammer. It's called washing soda. It is a detergent booster as well. The box cost about 3.00. Use about a cup and let the water "roll" and not necessarily boil. If the water is too hot and boiling the meat cooks and tends to stick to the skull. Do this and the meat and brains will turn into a jelly like substance. There is a little ball of hollow like bone located near the ear canal. Take a flat screwdriver and pry it off. This allow the brains and other meat to come off a little easier. Spray it off with a hose and use a wire brush. Buy some Hydrogen Peroxide from the drug store or the same grocery store ( about .99 a bottle). Any meat that might be left in those little cracks will be eaten by the peroxide. Don't use bleach. It continues to eat at the skull causing it to flake for the years to come. The peroxide washes off with water and will leave the skull in great shape for the coming years. Hope this helps. I worked at a taxidermy shop for the last 5 years and this is how we do it and return it to the customer. We never have any complaints. We can roll through a couple deer heads and elk heads in a day. good luck -

.270 This is whitehntr. To be quite honest with you we do need the police. In fact I am in training right now to become one. I am not the mcso though. They have there own issues. Its hard for the police to do their job because every right out there is to protect the felons. It is your right to carry your weapon as long as it is not concealed. It is also your right to defend your life if you feel you are being threatened, but remember a jury must also believe you did what a reasonable person would have done. Some other people say its better to be tried by 12 than carried by six. Thats a decision you will have to make. You need to take this issue a little higher up the chain if mcso wont do anything about it. They should have sent an officer out with you to make those positive IDs. We cant go around arresting every mexican in the desert, but if you know which ones threatened you then the mcso has an obligation to assist you, even if that means going out there and handling the situation. Good luck and let me know how it ends up.

I didn't mean to start a topic that brought out all the political aspects of these illegals. We all have differing views on the reasons and solutions of these problems. I agree with some of you and disagree with others, but my political beliefs are irrelevant to this website. I just wanted to warn everybody and tell them to be careful. Lets get back to talking about the upcoming deer hunts, that is the reason this website was started. Good Luck this weekend and post some good pics.

I sent my buddy to one of my favorite spots in 36A to do some scouting for his Nov. tag. He was down there today (oct 23). After glassing up 3 bucks, he also glassed up 8 illegals just 300 yards from him. I dont want to sound like anyones mom but be careful and prepared over the next several weeks during the seasons. Keep those guns loaded, ready and close by. Good Luck!!

Josh, I am certainly impressed with those last pics you posted. Is that a salt lick they were hitting, how do you set your licks up if you dont mind sharing. Thanks for the help.
-
I am seeing lots os trail cam pics off of salt licks. I have used salt licks in the past but have rarely had this type of activity. I think I am going about it all wrong. How are you guys building and setting up these salt licks. A little help would be greatly appreciated.

Carrying a handgun while archery hunting?
Whitehntr replied to Whitehntr's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Thanks for the input I will get a hold of game and fish and let you know. -
What kinds of cameras do you all use in order to take pictures through binos or spotting scopes with? I have tried my 35 mm with my Leica 10x50's but it did not work. Will a digital camera work? Thanks.

I heard from a friend that own a gun store in Flagstaff that they changed the law on carrying a handgun while archery hunting. Can anyone verify this information, or tell me the law that strictly prohibits this. Thanks
