Congrats on your bear. A well earned trophy.

Pleasantly surprised by the turnaround, hard to believe it's the same team we saw last week. I'll take it! Now if the Cats can knock off Stanford .............. looks like another tough outing so far.
-
That is an absolute beast! Big o'l 5x5's are very impressive. I'd take one in a heartbeat although I've never really seen one.
-
I've never seen one personally but I believe the best 5X5 in the B&C book is 380+.
-
Very nice, thx for posting it up!

AZ schools stinkin' tonight. Cats looked bad, Devils ............ worse. I'd hoped the hype both teams had received was valid.
-
Hope the Cats can whip UCLA. Can't take the wailing, gnashing of teeth, etc from the Cat faithful when they lose.

Very nice, thx for posting.

Does anybody NOT buy scent free products for archery hunts?
Swivelhead replied to naturegirl's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Scent "killer" products do work to a point. Obviously, they only reduce scent. Exhaled air is always present. Bacteria cultures in your pits, groin etc. begin multiplying as soon as you get out of the shower. Beyond keeping a favorable wind, I've done a few things over the years to reduce my scent profile. 1) Clean clothes and a clean body as much as is practicable. 2) Scent killer pump spray (commercial or homemade) 3) "Tea", I'll take the dominant plant (pine, juniper, spruce), pick needles, leaves or whatever. Make a tea out of it. Put the tea in a pump squirt bottle. Squirt myself, pack, bow, boots, etc. with the tea. 4) When I get tight into game, I will sometimes pick some grass & chew it thinking it could reduce my breath odor. -
Had not seen that video before. Big ol bull, thx for posting.

Could be your cam caught someone in a compromising position. They in turn handled it best they could.

2015 Ford F-250 super duty diesel or 2015 Chevy Duramax
Swivelhead replied to az-6.5-284's topic in The Campfire
Assuming 4x4, Chevy will probably ride better. Ford front end will hold up longer. -
Congrats to your buddy on his 1st deer. You probably should've posted the photo when you created the thread. The title & text without the photo was puzzling.

Lots of good broadheads these days both mechanical and fixed. Assuming you're going on an EAB hunt, I'd recommend you make a decision soon, especially if you choose to shoot a fixed head. Mechanical heads can require some bow tuning too.

question... shooting targets versus animals
Swivelhead replied to naturegirl's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
I always strive for a relaxed shot + an amazing follow through. Covers a lot of form flaws. -
Volumes have been written to answer the questions you pose in a single paragraph. I'll try to keep my response short. Personally, I don't call much. If the elk are talking, why should I? Despite what call manufacturers tell you, successful "calling" is about 80% knowing the elk and their habits and 20% making the correct sounds. Most called bulls are young, lonesome elk. Sitting water is a great strategy for taking an elk. Likely, when the time comes, you'll have a very makeable shooting opportunity. You'll also get to interact with fellow elk hunters at said water source. Elk season is the quickest two weeks of any hunters life. A "no quit" attitude is your best ally. You can lick your wounds when it's over. Good luck.

Still trying to locate Bulls for my first Elk Hunt in 6A:(
Swivelhead replied to TwoOneEight Photography's topic in Elk Hunting
+1, look for rubs from last year's rut. -
4 times in the boiler room, once in the neck.. Who's fault is it then? Tell us about the projectiles recovered from the 4 hits in the "boiler room". Properly expanded? Pass through? Fragmented? 350 yards is where most .224"s lose it.

The land these horses inhabit used to be open to OHV's. Not any more. Me, I'd rather encounter native wildlife. Every mouthfull a hayburner eats could have fed a native species. Public land managers can readily manage most species, not so with feral burros & horses. Facebook cowboys now control the range. Every politician in this state has folded like an umbrella on this issue. Where is the Center for Biological Diversity now? I ONLY WISH WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT OHV WERE TRUE! Bulldog Canyon is OHV from any of the entrances .. you just have to get the gate codes each year, no big deal ... These horses are being made to be a much bigger deal by both sides... Horses on this continent may all be considered feral due to the way they were reintroduced to this land by the Spanish but after generations in the Wild and away from Human interference it is a bit arrogant to not consider them as wild... They are not going to come up to you while you hold a carrot out, and will trample the heck out of you if you walk to close to their young, and yes they will screw you up in some places while hunting, been in those shoes many times. However, they need managed properly and not just disposed of.... Feral = domestic gone wild. So you suppose we should let domestic now feral dogs, goats, sheep, swine, cats, etc. be managed like wild horses & burros are on Federal & State lands too? Bulldog canyon ..... that's pretty weak. S8shot, I'll let you have the last word on this one. I know you desperately need it.
