I agree its more about movement.I dont know how many of you remember Gerry Blair (writer for the trapper magazine)He used to call coyotes wearing a santa clause suit just to prove it was more about movement than the clothes you wear.
-
I dont understand why called in bobcats are not included if they are trying to keep accurate records of the total harvest, seams a little one sided to me.Im a caller and a trapper and to me this should apply to all bobcats.Just my opinion.
-
Good luck rossislider if your up this way this winter let me know, I'm going to try to get out calling more this year.
-
Bowhuntaz1 my bad, I went to game + fish today and asked them and you are right just trapped bobcats.I think its kind of lame on there part though.trappers are just going to say they called them in just so they dont have to clean up the jaw and fill out the tags.We were selling the skulls for 20 to 30 dollars its going to put an end to that
-
You might want to check with G+F on that. The way I understood it was if your going to sell it you need an export tag and you cant get an export tag without the lower jaw.
-
I to have had problems with extra full chokes with the larger shot sizes.I think sometimes if it is to tight it deforms the pellets and can mess with your shot pattern. If I change loads I try different choke tubes till I get what Im looking for.

Situational Awareness... Feeling like a Jackwagon.

JLW,its true there is no limit on trapping bobcats but the G+F do keep records on how many are taken by trappers. All trappers have to file a report on how many predators were taken,Predator callers dont have to report any animals taken. I agree it would be hard to hurt the coyote population but I think fox and bobcats are diferent story.Just look at what happend to the kit fox you rairly see one any more. -
Here is a picture I found on taxidermy net.It shows the basic cuts to skin down to remove the head.

I have to agree with hyperwrx about useing a shotgun, 95% of the predators I shoot are shot with a shotgun.Heres a few pics(note the shotgun)

hyperwrx,I think you missed my point,I wasnt talking about shortening the trapping season. The point I was trying to make was you should not be able to shoot them in the summer months.Thats just my opinion. To each his own.Bye the way I am also a trapper and I dont want to see our season shortened. -

Just because its legal dosn't mean its moraly right.Just my opinon.I don't blame people for shooting them when their not prime.I just wont do it myself.I kind of blame G+F for not pushing back the season till NOVEMBER when trapping season opens. -

I agree with rifleman, cant see any reason to shoot fur bearers when the fur is no good.I am taxidermist and if you brought it to me to mount you would be disapointed when you picked it up.You can't make a summer cat or fox look like one taken in january. -
I've had a camera stolen before. Not a lot you can do about it.We all take a chance when we put them out there. It sucks!

Google boyds custom stocks. They have a lot in stock and their prices are good too.

You still have archery deer, archery turkey, and fall bear hunts that are over the counter.Even if you dont draw a tag in Arizona there are still plenty of things to hunt if you really want to.

Its only a matter of time till were reading a story in the news about someone beiing killed over a stolen camera.
-
I bet a third party is involved.Nobody could be that stupid.I put up 3 cameras in 3c on saterday.I hope its not one of my cameras your talking about.
-
I would take gas over a diesel for hunting any day.Gas is a lot less noisey and you will see more game when driveing. You can hear a diesel comingfrom a mile away.

All the butchers I have met(my son included, who had his own meat packing buisness)will tell you to get the hide off as soon as possable.

There is a shoot at Hawley lake next weekend August 3rd+4th

The havalon knife is the only way to go.The small one is great for deer and the larger one works great for elk.

This one is from last year.I started a new salt lick and two days later this guy showed up.

I have done it this way for 15+ years and never had a problem with it drying out the meat.I put mine in a game bag as I cut it off the bone, put it in my pack and head for camp.As soon as I get to camp I put it on ice in the ice chest ,open the drain plug to keep the water away from the meat.I've kept the meat in the ice chest for as long as a week and never had a problem. After useing the gutless method I will never carry out the bones again. You cant eat the bones.
