    G&F Commissioner

I just heard on the news that one of our G&F commissioners was cited for shooting a prairie dog out of season. What do you suppose will happen to him? Will he loose is license or just get a slap on thw wrist? It is a shame that one of the commissioners takes game out of season.

    2012 Results

I believe their first choice was for the early oct. hunt in 34a and their second choice was the late hunt in 34a. It really does not matter what their first and second choice hunts were. The point is that they did not get drawn for their first choice and there were left over tags. I know for a fact that my dad did not have any BPs as he has not put in for a couple of years. My sister-in-law may have 1 BP. She should not have been put into the bonus pool with just 1 point. Lets say you have enough points to be in the bonus pool why would you not get drawn for your first choice if there are left over tags. Does not make any sense.

    2012 Results

My dad and my sister-in-law drew their second choice tags this year even with a number of their first choice tages left over. So we call game and fish and got the run around. First they said that they were put into the bonus pool and that is why they drew their second choice. One problem with that is that neither of them have any bonus points to even be put into a bonus pool. Second, if they were in the bonus pool why did they not get their first choice tag? We also asked why we could not turn in the tag they have and get one of the leftover tags that was their first choice. We did not get an answer and they have not returned our phone call. I know this has happend to other people and they were givern the same answer, sorry to bad next time put your first choice hunt number down twice. That is BS. Here is a question for all of you. If this happened to us and other people that I know how many times does it happen? How many of you drew your second choice tag when perhaps you should have got your first choice tag? You will never know unless there are leftover tags that was your first choice. The Mame and Squeeze knows that this happens and do nothing about it. It seems that they continue to mess up the draws year after year.

    Swacker Broadheads

GBA The old sonoran is exactly the same as the swhacker. The only thing that has changed is he is making a 100g 2-inch cut head. I have shot more than 60 animals with the head over the years and have never has a problem. I have taken several elk including bulls, antelope, many deer including a 190" mulie, fox, lion, turkey, javelina, rabbits, etc. I have also shot a huge 350+ black bear in the chest when he was sitting up on his butt facing me. I shot a bear a couple fo years ago where the arrow zipped right though it and hit the ground littered with rocks. There was no damage to the head. I had no issues in getting through his tough chest bone and burying the head in his spine. The head was in good shape and the blades were still razor sharp. As far as the entrance hole. On all the animals that I have shot had a hole greater than one inch. If you were to take time to think about it as the arrow hits the animal it pushed the hide in a little providing a hole greater than one inch. I have not had a hard time tracking any of the animlas that I have shot. There are severl videos on the swhacker website showing the head being tested in gel after it went though sholder blades and hide. Rick aslo has a series of videos talking about the head and why he designed it the way he did. Let me also say that I would never hesitate to use this head on any animal that I will go after and I will never change. Robert Forrest

cable jumping off of roller guide wheel??

Perhaps the pro shop installed the string and cable wrong and placed them on the wrong roller. If you are holding the bow as if you are going to shoot it the cable should be on the left roller. It is also possible that you have bad wheel lean.

    Remington 870 Wingmaster

I am selling my Remington 870 Ducks Unlimited edition 12 gauge shotgun to help pay for my son's college. I picked this gun up some 20 or more years ago from a guy in Tucson who won the gun at a Ducks Unlimited banquet. The gun has never been fired and has been kept in its case and then in my safe. It is a 12 guage for 2 3/4 or shorter shells, full choke with a 30-inch barrel. It has the Ducks Unlimited emblem on the gun with a serial number of 92 DU. It alos has ingreavings with very nice hardwood stock. The gun has been kept very clean and oiled. I am asking $600 for the gun and the hard case. I am very sorry for the quality of the pics, they do not do the gun justice. This is an extremely nice gun. Robert (480) 497-6337

    Misc. Items

I am selling a StringTammer that stops your strings forward movement allowing for a smoother, quieter shot and increased accuracy. My wife got for me, but I have never used it. It is still in the packaging. I am asking $20 for it. I have an Avalance fall away rest made by Cavalier. This is a great rest for those who are starting off in archery. I am asking $20 for it. I have a set of six Carbon Express screw-in pig points that are weight adjustable in 5 grain increments. With all the weight sections intact the points weigh 125 grains. I am asking $2.00 for them I have an IGLO small outdoor grill. It is great for camping and elk hunting. It is in good shape and the stricker still works. I am looking to get $8.00 for it. I have added a pair of hunting gloves for a youth or lady (for small hands). The end of the glove is one piece and folds out of the way exposing your fingers for ease of pulling a trigger on a gun or release. They are insulated to keep your hands warm. I am asking for $8.00 for them. I have a fieldline backpack that has one larger central compartment with a drawstring to cinch it closed. You can also gain access to the main compartment from the front of the pack. There are 3 side compartment for storage. The pack has a internal frame and has padded straps to comfort while hunting. Aggressive Pig Attacks When Called In

Terry - It is an old circi call that they do not make anymore. It does have the jackrabbit reed in it. It is very effective and the other calls I have tried does not have the same pitch. TJ - What you are not able to see in the video is that pig was standing there like the first pig that ran by looking at my brother. Eric had the camera on other pigs. When he woofed at him the pig came unglued and charged him. His head was up looking at him. What you also did not see in the video is my brother already moving backwards. We have been calling in pigs for more than 30 years and this is the first time this has happend. I have had them run by brushing my legs. Once we are done editing the entire hunt it will be posted.
  24. AZLane, I am not a plant from the Sierra Club or the Center for Biological Diversity nor would I ever work for them. I do not agree with all the things that they do, but shutting this mine down is something that I agree with them on. I am a wildlife biologist and an environmental planner with a higher education than you, as it appears. I am also an avid hunter that has been hunting in Arizona for more than 35 years. In fact I grew up in Tucson hunting the Santa Rita Mountains and would like to see them stay as they are. I am a person who cares deeply for protecting the remaining habitat that we have in this state and care about the willdife that I hunt and for the wildlife that enhabit the mountains. This includes the Gila Topminnow, an endangered native fish (in case you where not aware of what they are). I see that you are for destroying habitat just to create a few jobs and copper. SInce you say you live down there get ready to find another hunting place and prepare to haul in water to drink.
  25. AZLANE and RON, It is a shame that there are two hunters (azlane and Ron) here that say they love the wildlife, spend money to help manage them and their habitat. But you would rather play a role in destroying the very habitat that at least one of you hunt. I guess that you really do not care. I was hunting this area this past weekend and it is a big shame what this mining company is already doing to the scenic and beautiful Santa Rits Mountains. You say that we need jobs and it is okay to keep destroying the habitat that we have left to create just a few jobs. All of this for a mine that is predicted to only produce about 5% of the copper in the Country. So where do we stop? When there is not habitat left, not wilderness, no trees? Ron - you said "The animals can go anywhere in the millions of acres that are out there". It is obvious that neither of you two know a single thing about how nature really works. Have you ever heard of the term carring capacity or the need for food, water, and shelter for wildlife to live? I know that are numbers are down, but there is only so much room for the wildlife that we have and the wildlife that will be dispersed from this mine have to go somewhere. They will ove into anothers territory and will need to compete with them. Well not all will survive and you will loose wildlife. This is how biology works. It would be just a matter of time before you will find less wildlife in this portion of the Santa Rita Mountains. And yes some will live and still be around the mine, but your hunting area will be greatly diminished and you will be able to hunt on the mine. I guess you expect the very large pit and the tailings to hold deer, javelina, lions, etc. Did you also know that the mine company plans on leaving the mine as an open pit and not revegetate the area? Much like the Duvall Mine southwest of Tucson. I did my Master's degree on the Gila Topminnow down in Cienega Creek. I for one do not want to see this fish go extint or loose this population due to a mine that will only produce a small amount of copper. You may say what is a Gila Topminnow or who cares. It is a part of an ecosystem that functions on this earth and has meaning and a purpose. When you start eliminating them the ecosystem goes out of wack. LZLANE - would you like this mine to look just like the Duvall Mine???? especially destroying the area you say you grew up hunting in. NOT ME. RON - lets do an open pit mine in Pinetop and destroy all that habitat up there. You can have all the jobs in the world you want, but if you have no habitat left then what do you have, a vast waste land. I for one like what we have today and would like to see it in the future for my kids and grandkids to enjoy.
