  1. Great video, I'd say that buck is only about 3 years old, so anything's possible. My guess he's a 3X next year, if he's still around.

    120ish set/before broken

Just thought I'd post a pic' of sheds from the buck I was after in Dec. and Jan. , (This buck's existence saved several smaller bucks' life). I'll add some "on the hoof" pics later.

    120ish set/before broken

Thanks everyone, This buck is a very good buck, I got within 20 yards of him twice last year but just couldn't get a good angle for a shot. I was hoping he wouldn't be broken up during the rut, so when I found his sheds I could get them mounted. I haven't found him again this year, yet. He will be about 6 1/2 years old this year and with the good rains should be at his peak. I'm hoping a lion didn't get him. I'll start looking hard for him after the last general season.

    Emergency supplies

x2 Good wool socks (at least 70 wool, no polyester) and goretex socks (in case your boot's gortex fails), and carry enough socks with you that you can change them if they get sweaty. I carry at least 4 pair if I'm going over 5 miles. You should never get a blister with dry socks, unless your boots don't fit correctly. For tooth pain, chew on some whole cloves, works wonders and is a great cover sent.

“Ethical” does not equal “Legal” and “Legal” does not equal “Ethical” This paradox has caused the formation and fall of every government in the history of mankind. Laws are between you and your Government. Laws are only as good as the people that wrote and enforce them. Ethics are between you and God. Ethics are only as good as YOU. Let’s stop confusing the two. That’s what we have politicians and lawyers for. Thanks, Dan

    Antelope Hunt

sounds like you had fun, but something bothers me about you statements of missing by an inch or three. if you miss the whole animal by an 1 inch high that means you missed the lungs/hart by at least 6 inches (more like 8) and 7 yard difference in yardage shouldn't equal that big of a miss.
  11. dummy camera with pepper spray rigged to go off when opened, would be they way to go. That would make for a long walk/drive back for the thief.

    Coues Slaughter

The deer killed where in the fenced area north of the Sierra Vista airport road, almost at Huachuca city. They where Mule Deer, and where fenced in when they installed "Home-land Security Fencing" a couple years ago. This is a 8 foot chain-link fence with barb wire on top. There was no way for deer to exit or enter this area. At the time of fence's completion, they counted at about 24 deer (all mule deer) trapped in fencing.

    Need help with JR hunter

Shane, Shane, There?s an archery shop in Huachuca City, Shooters Den. It has 20 yard indoor range. Huachuca Mountain Archers and Bowhunters have a two day 3D shoot at Sonoita/Gardner Canyon this Sat. & Sun, Oct 8-9. and have a 3D shoot every 2Nd Sunday of each month on Fort Huachuca. There web site is www.huachuca-archers.com I also hear Frank Pearson has a archery range somewhere there in the Benson area. Dan

    Non-Resident Question

I'd suggest you wait till January and you'll have all of the 2006 (Jan, Aug & Dec) seasons and over 70 days to hunt for that price. Unit 27 has very short seasons due to the high success ratio of bowhunters in that unit. Unit 28 does not have a lot of Coues. units 29 and 31 are close and hold a lot of Coues. Check out AZ game and fish web site, unit hunting reports, for good info on all AZ's hunt units $244 is cheaper than my January NM unit 23 nonresident deer tag/license ($316) and it's only good for one unit and 16 days and is only good that deer. The Az general license allows you to hunt all non game animals too. Dan

    Need help with JR hunter

Shane, I doubt this will help, but; Take her hunting (rabbit, javalina, deer or whatever). Just set yardage limits on her shots. We all should have limits. She?ll either need to become a better hunter or a better shot, hopefully both. ( I?ve taken 2 javelina @ under 5 yards and a 85? Coues @ 3 yards with a recurve, so distance is not everything) If you feel she?s truly interested in hunting traditional; archery,,, It will require work. If this is her first recurve, it?s probably too heavy poundage, especially for everyday practice. Make sure her bow is set up correctly and the arrows are correct. Shooting a recurve or longbow is as much an art as a skill. Skill comes from practice, but art is born of passion. If you don?t have to pry the bow from her hands or hide her arrows, she, most likely, will never be a proficient traditional archer. But you never can tell. Dan
  20. Great bull, congrats. looks to me, that all points, spread and rub marks match... what looks to be a odd point on the left side is a tree branch.
