Frustrated Archery Elk Hunter Any advice, words of wisdom
AZDOGMAN1 replied to RoughCut's topic in Elk Hunting
I think that in most these cases the "perfect shot" is actually not perfect. In the excitement you think it was but it's not. I have seen a lot of stuff get shot and when an elk truly is hit perfect they don't go far. Not saying this is the case on yours but I think 95% of the time that's the case. -
Congrats man. Two very nice bulls. You are gonna need to add on a trophy room soon.

Thanks guys. I am so proud of her. Defiantly one of the best moments of my hunting life.

Well day four is done. We connected on a nice Billie tonight. She made a 274 yard shot. I will post pics and more details when I get home

Well after 127 hours in the blind my dad finally arrowed a buffalo. . He had a big bull come in last week but this herd was the first legal buffalo that came in and he smacked the lead cow.

No the Jr hunters can't buy a tag. I checked when my daughter drew. It is s great opportunity for anyone willing to put in the time. They had pics pretty much daily of the buffalo so trust me they came off the park almost everyday.

He shoots a Hoyt. 70 lbs. He uses vortex mechanicals. Hit it 8 inches behind the shoulder and burried it to the fletching.

Here is the story about my wifes buff and buck. The first weekend we burn some time and go hang out at the check in station and while there for half hour we see a couple buff brought in. One of them was killed by a hunter with Lance of TLO ( Timberland Outfitters) He is the buffalo guru!! I strike up a conversation with him and before you know it we have plans to meet the following thursday to go chase some buffalo. We get to the lodge late thursday eve and get some sleep. Friday morning we head out and hunt hard all day but dont turn up anything. Plenty of sign and still exited about the next day. Saturday morning finds us face to face with a herd of 15- 20 and its game on. Well the gun decides to malfunction and not fire on 3 different occasions ( the first was safety left on) and soon they are stampeding past at 40 yards and booking it to that magical fence they know as the safe zone. At this point i am bummed. I mean ready to go home and pout for a couple weeks. I told Lance we were done and would just go try to get her a deer and head home. He is not to thrilled at the idea as he wants to add buff number 7 for the year to his belt. We head to an area that i had seen a good buck the week before and he had also been seeing good deer in. We werent sure if there would be any deer left in there as it was bumper to bumper the week before in there. We make a little loop in a draw he had seen some bucks in and on the way back after talking about how all the deer have been pushed out of there we jump this buck. He runs up and stops about 250 yards and my wife starts shooting. Mind you the scope is still on 3 power for the close buff hunting. She connects on the second and third shot and it goes down. Now i am not so depressed about the blown chance at the buff. We take pics and pack it out to the truck. At this point its about 4:00 and i have a gut feeling that we should haul butt back to the buff spot for one last chance. We decide to do it and the race is on. We make it in there and start checking the area for fresh sign. About the time i thought we were spinning our wheels there they are. About 12-15 and they are headed for the safe zone. My wife doesnt even have time to rest on the shooting sticks. She pulls up and drops the last cow in her tracks. Couple more shots to ensure its not going anywhere and oh boy i am just stoked. My wife cant believe it. What a day it turned out to be. I am so proud of my wife for hiking her butt off, freezing her butt off the first night sitting a tank and never really complained. Big thanks to Lance with TLO for the help on finding the buff. This guy is the real deal on buff. I have guided for years and know alot of Outfitters but Lance is a super guy and knows buffalo. Anyone with a spring tag or anyone that want to find them on the deer hunt get ahold of him. His record on buff is unmatched. Also shout out to Amy his neice for running the video camera (even when the buff almost ran us over) and pretty handy with the knife as well. We had it cut up and loaded in about an hour.

 You save on bullets that way. Shoot the buff, lands on the deer, game over.
