Not sure where the bucks were this year? plus the temps were up that's the only thing I can think of they just never really moved like they usually do? definitely not the same as other years
Same issue for us. We found em bedded early and staying bedded till after dark. Not an easy year for that hunt.
the one that i got we watched him and 1 other buck feed down hill for about 2 hours then bed about 600 yards away then mine got up and moved down about 80 yards from the other 1 and didnt move for a while.
definitley not the tipical hunt that we are used to
Yeah, last year, we didn't see a buck at all in the evening. THIS year, thats when we saw most of the bucks! You know the story, 20 mins of shooting light left, you get bored looking at all the close stuff so you turn the 15's to the farther hills, and BOOM! Buck! But not enough time to get there... bummer...
It was a rough one this year for whatever reason... The bucks we were watching disappeared on us like only a coues can. I ended up shooting a spike on wednesday and 2 of my buddies each got 2x3's with 2 hours of light left on the last day! (why does it always seem to happen like that?)
It's been my experince that there are deer all over that unit, the only problem in a low buck:doe ratio. Go to Josephine Canyon, sit down, and , like my Dad used to tell me, "Kepp yer frigin' eyes in yer nocs!". You'll do fine and good luck!
I've had Minox but now I'm hauling around a old pair of 15x60 Ziess. I love them but my only complaint is that they find stuff really far away, lol. I would buy the Kiababs. for their price, they are some of the best glass out there IMO. I'll be picking up a pair for next year for sure.
I am headed to 6A right after work today. I'll be in a white chevy w/camper with a white CWT sticker on the back, a black xterra, and a tan dodge ram. If any of you sees our camp, stop by and say hi and share a cold one with us. Best of luck to everyone, let's be safe and have fun!
