Hypothetical Bear Questions????
Antmo23 replied to azcouesfanatic's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Shoot the dogs?!? Made me LMFAO, I sure hope you're joking though. I don't think I'd shoot, but then again, I've never seen a bear and I've always wanted to take one... Naw, I'd pass... -
Knowing where your going opening day?
Antmo23 replied to AzVTR's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I've found a few different bucks in a few different areas for my little brothers hunt, now I gotta find myself a few to chase around. But the good news is I'm finding them! -
Things your huntin buddies do that drive you nuts : )

Jesus! Sounds a lot like someone I know! Especially numbers 3, 4, 7, 10, 11!!!!!, and 12. -
Spot and stalk is what I like to do. Spending time behind my binos is my idea of a great day. 1.) I don't own any land so no steroid infused food plot. 2.) Sit in a heated blind? See my first remark. 3.) Its always first come, first served so I've never fought over a water hole. 4.) I've never built a water hole. 5.) I don't own a trail cam. I'd like to, but I don't yet. So yeah, anything I am fortunate enough to harvest, you're dang right I brag a little. (ok, maybe a lot!) I like hunting, ie the active pursuit of my quarry. I've sat water holes before, but I'd rather stalk my prey. Just MY opinion, if you want to kill a HUGE deer that got let out of a pen a few day ago to get it " wild", so be it. Just realize that in hunting, the animal has a chance to get away. In a high fence ranch, it's f€%£ed. That's killing, not hunting. That poor thing probably walked towards them thinking it was going to get fed like it has for the last 6 years, only this time, they blasted it. Again, poor thing, glad they put it put of it's misery...

THAT WAS AWESOME! Man, I better get drawn next year, I love chasing bugling bulls...
-
I gotta get the rifles sighted in then I'm ready to go. I have the early November hunt but I get to sharpen my glassing skills with my little brothers hunt the weekend before! And MAN, is my girlfriend PISSED at me! So glad I put that pool table in the dog house, I'll be spending a lot of time in there...

Shoot either of the two in the first pic and put them on the wall! It's kind of a pick your poison, non-typical or typical?

Jesus, that was intense! Felt like I was there for a sec, had a surge of adrenaline, lol. Great video and awesome bull! Congrats!

New member here with a couple of questions...
Antmo23 replied to PelaPapas's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
34A huh? I took my first buck in there, we used to hunt it every year, I have a couple of good spots in there. Can't tell you where they are though, that uofa avatar won't let me, lol. GO DEVILS! But good luck on your hunt and let us know how you do! -
Same thing I was thinking. Where did you get your flu shot? I get one every year but have not done it yet this year. I have been lucky and never had a reaction and I don't hink I have been sick in almost five years. I got mine from work, they were offering them for free and I'm not one to pass up a free shot, lol. First one I've got in 2 decades, prolly my last... I've got scouting to do and I don't want to be hurt cuz of a flu shot..

That thing is a mutant! The really terrible thing is that we get put in the same group of people that think sitting in a heated blind 50 yards from a feeder shooting a scoped rifle off of a bench rest on a high fence "laboratory" is hunting. That poor buck, prolly put it out of it's misery... Sorry if this offends anyone, I got a dang flu shot yesterday and it's kicking my butt..

Solution to Water Hole Problems/Confrontations
Antmo23 replied to m77's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
First come first serve is by far the best policy. I had an average of 3 other hunters a day come to the tank that I was on durning my archery elk tag in 2010. I'd just whistle and wave my hat and they'd leave. I didn't have any problem with anyone trying to take over the tank, cuz I was there first. I did, however, have a problem with all the dang knuckle heads that decide 545 is the right time to check the dang tank! Lol, like it was mentioned before, read a book, get a clue! Elk are crepuscular, meaning they are more active at dawn and dusk, which means DON'T DRIVE TO A TANK AT DUSK! Lol, if you want to sit a tank, do what I did and get there at 1 or 2. -
If you can have a spotter right there behind you calling out ranges, in addition to a caller 50-100 yards away, I think that'd help a ton! I missed a heavy 6x7 opening day 2010, shot under him, thought he was on the same trail as his cows took at 41 yards. He was out at 55... Absolutely DRILLED a P&Y ponderosa though, lol.

I went camping this past weekend up by Knoll Lake and I got a warning for camping off a road (the 295e) that was closed to camping. The FS LEO, Mr. Papa, was very nice and professional as he told me, that although there were no signs stating that road was closed to camping, and that I was within 30 feet from the road, I was camping illegally. How the !&@$ and when the !%#& did this law pass? They have taken away miles and MILES of roads in the coconino NF and haven't posted any signs stating what roads are open and which are closed. It's almost like camping roulette! And they arent going to stop till it comes to a national forest near you. They took away my favorite hunting areas in 6A, I'd have to walk in over a mile just to get to where I usually park my truck,THEN I'd have to walk to my glassing spot. That country is not flat. Heaven forbid I spot a buck over 300 yards away, I'd be spending the night on the hill side . And my camp is now off limits... Be careful out there scouting and hunting, they are going to make a fortune on tickets for this, another example of greed over what's right....

Lol, yeah, I would use a 223 over a 338 pushing a 300 gr pill any day, lol. I'd flinch so bad, I'd be spraying shots all over the hillside, they'd have to rename it lead canyon! Big calibers=flinching= misses or bad shots. And I know, I know, not all the time, was just my opinion. Never said I have problem with big guns, just not something I would use. And, to get back to the original question, no, a 300 wthrby is not too big for coues.
-
Any of the 30 cals are great and not too much gun. However, I got to hold a round for a 388/416 rigby and dang! Now THATS too much gun for our little coues... A 250 gr pill going 3200 fps?!? ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!?

I've found that my 300 wm makes sound that stops em right quick...

I jumped a big buck at 5 yards while quail hunting off of the Bartlett dam road, good 4 point, pushing 28 in wide. Lol, don't know who was more surprised, me or the buck. Was right off the road though, good luck out there.

Oh yeah, forgot about "those" deer... Good spot though.
-
Ok, those look like mulies with great eye guards, but that looks like the butt of a WT....mulie or HUGE WT, which is it?
-
I've never been questioned while out scouting, and I carry my rifle loaded and ready for varmints in full camo. Itd be hard to prove intent without actually shooting at something.

First and forth for me, nothing like a big clean typical. Love the long main beams.

I like the Carlton calls, the single, double, the 2.5, and the triple, I can sound like one DUUUURRTY cow with those things...

Hey guys, this is serous! That mine is destroying prime saber toothed lion habitat. Yes I know that none of them has been seen in that area in quite a while, but they could be there, and that's enough to call off this mine... Are they €%¥~ serious? Habitat that has never seen a jaguar, or hasn't IN A FEW DECADES, is being set aside for them? I bet hunters down there stop being so forthcoming with intel and photos of jags after this. It'll be like tying our own noose!
