I kinda like having all the bird dogs pushing the bucks to me, lol. But I feel your pain. Nothing worse than someone ruining a shot opportunity. Ah, the beauties of public land hunting....
-
Should be soon. And then all the craziness starts again. CANT WAIT!
-
Lol, i got my first archery tag I put in for, for 2010, lol. Of course, I put in 5 times before that and didn't get drawn, not even for archery cow tags!
-
Wow... Why do they have lower insurance again?
-
Me either! I hope I get to go chase some elk again during the rut with sticks and a string! It's been 3 years, I'm due, lol.
-
So...... How 'bout them elk recommendations huh? I'm pretty sure we got a wee bit off topic and some feelings were hurt. Whatever. I think people have forgotten that this forum was started so that we could have our own community of HUNTERS HELPING other HUNTERS. Not so we could sling mud at one another and point fingers. I dont care who is right and who is wrong, let's just end this thread ok? Thanks.

I have, we went 3 out of 5 this year and saw some nice bucks. Youre a lucky guy, the late hunt should be great!
-
Yeah, that's a pretty tiny bear, might still have milk on it lips! I find it funny that everyone was surprised that it was an actual working rifle.

Well that is one handy dandy rifle holder you've got there! Nice bull, he'll eat real good!

I was in there for both hunts this year. I'd pick a good glassing spot close to water and Glass, glass, glass, nap, eat, glass, and glass some more. Should be a great hunt for you if the bucks are moving.

Lol, that show is some of the best comedy on tv right now, lol. Those people are idiots! "Hey, what was that? I heard something, it sounded like a coyote. Oh, it's gotta be a sasquatch!" "Oh crap, I just heard a twig break, it was a squatch calling to it's mate!" are you F-ing kidding me?!? And a bit of advice, if you're tring to sneak up on something in the woods, don't talk constantly. Silence is golden.

Just be ready to answer all the questions about what you're cooking, lol. It seems like every year someone asks about the "deer head soup" I'm making, lol. Haven't had anyone brave ( or stupid) enough to try it though..... Yet...
-
That is awesome! I've always wanted to see a hybrid out in the wild.
-
I don't work for, or know anyone from either place. All I know is that my family is pissed that I didn't get drawn for elk this year because they are all craving the breakfast sausage and I'm all out!

what makes you a coues fanatic
Antmo23 replied to 112coues's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
It is the physical and mental challenges that Coues WT present that makes us so addicted. They will challenge your will, skills as a hunter, your manhood( or womanhood), and your sanity. Very few animals ask so much, and give so little, lol. I can put my finger on exactly what "it" is, but SOMETHING makes me crave the hunt more than any other animal. Heck, this year I was done in the first 10 mins of my hunt and I almost felt cheated cuz I wanted to hunt more! I guess I felt I didn't hurt enough to earn a buck that soon into the hunt. I had to carry out my cousins buck just to put all my hard work throughout the summer to good use, lol. Yep, I am crazy for Coues! I must be in the right place! -
Might be interested. My cousin killed a good buck but he thinks he cut the cape too short so he might need a replacement. (i told him its better to have too much than not enoug...) Finding out this Saturday...

I just bought a tamale pot (huge, trashcan looking pot) from food city and boiled my head with my turkey fryer burner. When everything was falling off, I hit it with a high pressure nozzle on my hose and then soaked it in peroxide for an hour. Was good to go and bright white. $45 dollars.

Nice bull! Strange about the no exit wound from a 30-06 and 180 gr pills...
-
I always take my elk to Millers Southwest Processors. They make really good sausage and chorizo. They are out in queen creek.
-
Congrats Man! And I sure hope your pack mule didn't have to get himself his own drink for the rest of hunt, lol.

How many of those "Mojados" actually were wet? " Wetback" is a Texas slang ...... Let's see now .... Would it be PC to use the Arizona slang name here on CWT? How about "Undocumented person walking north"....LOL I am an American of Spanish-Mexican decent, and in my expertise on the subject, we call them scratch backs due to the barbed wire they cross under, lol.

*****Updated with Story and Pics****What's your hunting style?
Antmo23 replied to gaps's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Ive never heard about spitting on rocks and using a slingshot, but I do roll rocks down canyons. After I've glassed a canyon for as long as my patience will allow, I start rolling rocks, we call it bowling for bucks, lol. It worked this year a few times, mostly does, but one was a 100 in 3x4 that my cousin whacked. -

Get off the roads and you should find more bucks. A lot of hunters do exactly what you're doing and stick close to the roads. This late in the season, any bucks that were close to the roads are dead or small, ie the button and small forky you glassed up. -
Thanks for clearing that up. I've gone on a few left over hunts and I've come home with tag soup, but I still a had a blast! It doesn't matter if it's a leftover tag in a unit nobody wanted, it's a golden ticket to go chase deer in the beautiful wilds of Arizona. Great times with good people in front of a campfire, that's what it's all about...
