    Henderson Vs Pettis II

I completely agree. I see Pettis landing some crazy stuff, but with th TD's from Bendo, it'll be a razor close fight.

    Henderson Vs Pettis II

Ben is an awesome guy, no doubt! But Anthony is no slouch in the octagon... I see it going to a decision again, and for the life of me, I can't make a choice!

Depends on the weather. If it's sunny and hot, absolutely. Don't worry too much about scent control, you'll be sweating buckets already if its hot, what's a little extra scent going to do? Might as well save yourself the pain of a sunburn on your neck/face.

mountain lion stalking in on doe.

I've gotten in the habit of buying a lion tag every year and keeping it in my pack. You just never know when you'll see one.

    Opening day Blues!! UPDATED

Sounds to me like someone needs to miss a hunting season. Maybe that'll get thru to him.
  11. You can shoot them from the hip... True story Every year!
  12. You and me both hoghntr! Heck, I had to take my shotgun out and shoulder it a few times just to get it outta my system! Migratory bird stamp, shotgun shells, and the 98.7% DEET spray are all bought, now it's just the hurry up and wait period...

    Do beards provide camo?

IDK, I think I'd dye mine if it goes white. Do they make a coyote brown hair dye? How about sage bush green?

I shoot a Remington model 700 in 300 wm, but you don't have to go that high. .243, 25-05, .257, 270, .308, 7 mm Mag, 30-06, and a 300 wm are just some of the more common calibers that will cleanly take a coues out to 300 yards and much, much farther. I say go with a .270, it's very flat shooting, accurate, has a good bullet selection, and doesn't kick that much. Plus, it's got a great history hunting coues thanks to Jack O'Conner (read up on him if you haven't already). Look at cameralandny.com for a scope, they've got some great deals for good glass. And then, once you have your rifle and scope, SHOOT IT. A LOT.

In that case, GAME ON! Whatcha thinking about getting? And be prepared for a debate on rifle/caliber/scope.....

    Another noob with questions

You might want a new scope, shoot paper at 100 yards and see what groupings you get. If you can't get the groupings down to 3 inchs at 100 yards, you might want to upgrade the scope.

Kalifornia set to ban lead bullets for hunting

Lol, why do you think I made the switch to Barnes TTSX in 2010? It's coming, won't be long now... Doves with steel shot anyone? It's a coming...

Sportsmans wear house has the Vortex adapters for your nocs. I try to shoot prone from my bi-pod whenever possible, but sometimes I have to use my tripod as a rest. It'll work as is, but you can also buy a rifle rest adapter for your tripod. Triclawps is a popular one. I use a foam and tape covered U-shaped bracket that my Pops and I Jerry-rigged together. It fits on my stock and locks in to the quick change tripod plate.

+1! And when you find a doe or small buck, and they keep looking in a certain direction, follow their gaze! I dont know how many times ive found other deer but doing that. Heck, one time a lil buck I was watching went up and poked another little buck that was bedded. I would've NEVER found that bedded buck without an assist.

I picked up a Vanguard Espod at Sportsmans's Wearhouse for $70. It works great, but ill prolly bite the bullet for a carbon fiber, high-dollar tripod after this season. I want to save weight so I can go farther up the mountains.

    Another noob with questions

You don't need a new rifle, a 30-06 will do just fine on a coues. I took my first 2 with my ruger M77 in 30-06 pushing 168 gr Winchester supremes. Maybe upgrade the scope if you want. What power binos do you have? Do you have a tripod? If not, get one, it's an absolute MUST HAVE for effective glassing. Other then that, be in the best shape possible, get some quality boots, and get out there and learn your unit.

    new to bow hunting!

+1 on Sitka gear. I don't yet own any, but I have heard and seen great things about it. Of the higher end/higher priced clothing, it is probably the only I would consider buying. If I were you, I'd look at Kuiu.com. Far, FAR superior product. The sitkas are comfy, but if you're in cat claw country, they will get shredded quick, fast, and in a hurry! I wear my kuiu attack pants everywhere i wore the sitkas and i dont have any rips or pulls. Plus, they are the most comfortable pants I own(besides my terrycloth pj bottoms ). Kuiu's are lighter and stronger than sitka (no elastic/ lycra) and I really like the camo pattern (and cheaper by an average of $20). I'm in the process of replacing all of my hunting gear with Kuiu, even my hunt pack/frame. Take a look before you decide, youll be happy you did! I'll have to check those out. My Sitka mountain pants have taken a beating. They definitely bare the scars of many trips in the desert, but are still in one peace after 6 years of hunting with them. However, there's always a better product some where.... Please do, you won't be disappointed! One of the guys that started sitka left and started Kuiu. He brought everything that was good at sitka and vastly improved/lightened it. Go to the website and read upon it, you'll be hooked like I am!
