Why not ask the unit 9 guys from last year if it hurt or helped this is the second year for this. This will be rotated between the regions every year according to Erin at the Kingman office.

ANYONE HUNT CALIFORNIA QUAIL HERE?
jim replied to billrquimby's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
There's a covey of quail that hang out by the dam at zuni reservoir near St Johns. I never looked close I just thought they were gambles. I have shot 3 different type of quail down on the blue river road. I assumed they were gambles, mearns and scaled. -
I found a few old cork whiskey bottles way back in the blue wilderness. It seemed like every peak a mile back has old bottles and cans from the old time deer hunters. I'm not sure they were sober or just warming up a little.

I count them on a whitetail but not a muley.I dont have a reason why , just what I do.

I don't know the unit but look for high ground that you can see as many slopes that the sun hits first from the same spot. It will be cold most likely and they like their sun.

news release - chad smith - helicoter chasing antelope update

I have seen both outfitters and regular guys try the road blocking thing, tank blocking, ect. I have guided in new mexico years ago. I have worked with guys I have a lot of respect for and I have also worked with guys that I would not work around again as I felt they pushed the lines of fair chase. I also have the same list with regular guys I have hunted with . There are guys I will just not take or hunt around as I feel they stretch what I believe is right or wrong. As for working outfitters that I have talked to quit posting on here as they get roasted by the anti guide crowd no matter their opinion. -
Walmart in kingman refused to sell my buddy a tag the other day as it is not 2016 yet.

Wait until you have bad weather that has a solid wind in 1 direction. Then go up wind to him. The wind will kill your noise and not flip direction as the weather is driving wind direction.

Congrats, that buck would not get a pass on any hunt.
-
Hit all the walmarts at the end of Jan when you see them start clearing things out, you should be able to stock up on stuff.
-
Thanks Adam for putting this up. We got it done today just had to change complete sides of the unit. My grandson killed his first buck today. Adam can you add some pics. 55 yard shot 50 cal muzzleloader.

There's a lot worse problems in this world than this. I guess it's all about perspective.

Walmart carries them around 300.

That is some good stuff you mentioned on both sides of the river.

Big Boquillas Ranch Threat or Leverage or Both!
jim replied to SirRoyal's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I don't mind them wanting to make money but when it includes checkerboard lands the access issues should not allow complete closer. If it was all deeded land I could care less what they do with it. The ranch could also be shooting themselves in the foot if they shut down basic access they are gambling that some super rich folks will draw tags every year that will pay high access fees. On years when the draw does not favor their clients they will not make much money. -
Deer can get big anywhere in the state. It takes age, feed and moisture to get big. If deer find a spot with good moisture and feed and can grow old they have the chance to get some size and mass. Look at when the rains hit last year and how good the growth has been this year.
