He will be fine on a Javelina at those ranges. I would take him shooting rabbits so he can have the experience of drawing on live critters.

I was one that told you to keep hunting I did not know it was a 7 day hunt. My buddy I was helping told me he had to next sunday. I will be calling him in a few minutes to tell him he better check his hunt dates again. lol

3 posts and a rant accusing members here with little to no information. This post has potential. I really like the 2 great bucks comment followed by they were not great bucks. With all that said the bucks shown are nice bucks and congrats on the kills. -
Depends more on what species you are wanting to hunt. Some units have a good mix of both and some areas are one or the other. But alot of Deseart in most of the units that are open during that time frame.

Congratulations on a couple fine animals.

Head back up it could be years before you draw again.

If you want to have a face to face with the guy from thompson draw just park along the road going down during the January archery hunt he will start hovering around your vehicle. If you park a few days in a row you will find his tracks back tracking your tracks within a few days. Use to be a red quad with baskets on both ends. It has been several years since I hunted down there so this behavior might have changed.

I'm with you guys those don't look like Javelina. Looks like regular pigs to me.

For those that glass with a spotting scope do you find it easier to glass with a straight scope or angled?

Just hunt off the rim with the other 80 guys driving up and down the roads. Weekends are bad hunt the middle of the week if you can.

2018 AZ Coues Deer rifle hunt - Teaser alert
jim replied to lamrith's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I am glad you posted the story as you did. It's nice to hear the passion for the hunt. -
I would suggest if your helping put a bull to bed for him and if its not the first day he gets there the bull should be there the next morning as long as you don't bump it. Also why doesn't he hunt friday and drive back down that night for his interview and return after it. Same scenario try and bed a bull on sat evening for sunday morning.

If my grandson kills his deer this weekend you can borrow mine. I can mail it to you next week if you don't find another one.

Once the pressure starts they really like big thick mesquite thickets or really thick cholla flats . But it still come down to you find them where you find them. But the best glassing tip I can give is check out where you least expect to find them. I have been surprised many a time looking where they should not be.

Where are you at this year wade?

I find myself in need of a Antelope cape. My bad shooting and some hungry coyotes leave me with a head and no cape. I would like one from Az preferably the 18a area but I have been told that there are not a lot of difference in the capes. Let me know what you have out there. If anyone is doing the 18a muzzle loader hunt and not planning on mounting your lope.
