WTB .257 wby dies and brass

Either buy brass new or form it from new 7mm Rem mag brass. It will be the most consistent. I have made most of my brass from Remington head stamp 7mm Rem mag brass. It has worked well for me so far. The gun and load shoot sub-moa easily. Harley
  2. Glad someone bought this so I didn't have to...

Forbes Model 24B 6.5x55 30mm Talleys and extras

    I am glad I can't afford/justify this. I love 6.5x55.

    "Good to a thousand" mentality??

I agree Fork. I closed on my elk last year from about 800 to 550 yards basically 100% out in the open. There was 1 bush between us and I made sure to keep that bush as much between us as possible, but I closed at least 200-250 yards in the dead open country before I was able to get into a depression out of sight and make up more ground. I closed to about 260 yards. From there I was completely out of cover and couldn't risk getting closer. I wasn't crawling to make that first 200 yards either. I was standing up, moving slowly, wearing a homemade camo poncho that helped break up my outline.

    "Good to a thousand" mentality??

I would be willing to bet that most of the "good to a thousand" crowd would be hard pressed to put there first shot on a 36" steel plate at 500 yards, let alone on a deer size kill zone at 500 yards.

    "Good to a thousand" mentality??

I hate it too. People are willing to fling lead. It is dangerous and unethical. I shoot more than most hunters do and I wouldn't want to take a shot past about 500 yards with the rifle I am most comfortable with, less with anything else. I am building a rifle now that I hope to be able to take an 800 yard shot with but even that will only be with tons of practice.

    New Elk Rifle

    Very nice looking rifle.
  8. If you have a factory stock for a tang safety style m77 long action let me know please. I am interested in picking one up at a reasonable price.
  9. Has anyone used a williams peep sight on an enfield 303? I picked up a sporterized 303 today and am thinking about ditching a scope in favor of iron sights. They factory rear iron sight is missing from the rifle though. Hence the reason I am thinking about the peep sight. Harley
  10. Seriously WTF. it is/was closed in 3 locations today and now I am being rerouted through prescott or payson...

    WTB Scope-- non-high end

If not I really like the Redfield revolution 4x12x40 with accurange. Probably set you back 250 or so and is a good entry level scope. I have the 3x9 and 4x12 on several rifles and really like them. They are owned by leupold.

    Reverse engineering

Some of my loads are very low powered though too because I make my brass from 7mm Rem mag brass or 264 win mag brass. The first loads on every case are mild 2506 roughly to fire form them. Then I push them higher. That accounts for probably 120 rds of the roughly 700-800 I would estimate I have shot.

I am sure I have more than that down mine and it n is still going fine. I don't push my loads super fast though. I am probably shooting loads that are more like a hot 25-06 or mild 257 weatherby. I found a super accurate load, and I shoot that load. I don't care how fast they are, they are accurate. I have shot probably about .75 MOA at 500 yards with this load.
  14. Yep. Keep moving on the rim till to get to a safe spot even if it costs you a new rim. To many people die trying to change a tire in a bad spot.

    WTB decent binos - $400

The Nikon Monarch's have been one of the best bang or the buck bino's for years. We used to sell the crap out of them when I worked retail sporting goods 15 years ago.

If you are interested in a knowledge swap let me know. I can tell you where not to look via my adventures this weekend.

My 257 shoots really well with berger 115gr VLD over 61.0gr of h1000. It shoots 117gr hornady interlock well over the same charge. I shoot formed 7mm Rem mag brass though so your pressure will be a little lower than mine. If it shoots the cheap 100 gr weatherby ammo decent then shoot that if you are really too close to the hunt.

    Finally, The Holy Grail!

Maybe, maybe not. I have not had any until now, but theoretically they are more consistent in discharge so you should hopefully get more consistent loads. My 257 weatherby shoots sub-moa with winchester magnum primers. I would like to find some gm 215 for it and a 300 mag.

    WTB TOY HAULER

Weekend Warrior has 1 model that had major frame issues that was the thing that put them out of business so I am told. A buddy has 1 and he had to do some major frame reinforcement on it.

    7E Scouting Trip Report

I also need to kick myself in the butt. My 4 year old wanted to look through binoculars when we were looking. I should have handed him the cheapy Bushnell 8x32's that I had from when I was younger. I handed him the 8x42 Vortex Diamondbacks. I tried to give him the bushnells later and he said no, I want the good ones... Those are not great glass, but now he already knows cheap glass sucks and I won't be able to give him cheaper things and get away with it. I had to let him carry the diamondbacks for the rest of the weekend. I carried the new Viper HD's I just got. They are better than anything I have used in the past so they are nice to me.

    7E Scouting Trip Report

Just to finish up the report from this weekend I had a great driver back from Flagstaff. I left at 10:30am and pulled into my driveway in Peoria at 7:30PM. I noticed a slight vibration from the passengers front tire on the way down the hill from Flag toward Camp Verde. It progressively got a little worse as I drove. I pulled over at Camp Verde because I assumed that the tire was probably on its last legs. I pulled into the dirt lot near the Casino and looked the tire, suspension, and driveshaft. It all appeared fine. I decided to pop the cover off the lug nuts to see if they had loosened up. You could say they had. 3 wheel studs with lugnuts still attached fell to the ground. Thought to self...This is not good...This is not an easy fix...So I did what any marginally prepared human being would do at this point. I go to the back of my truck and pull the spare unit bearing wheel hub out of the milk crate it lives in. I get the tools including the monster 1 11/16" socket out of the tool storage bin under the rear seat and go to work. An hour and 20 minutes later I get the truck back on the ground and take off. I am home free now....WRONG I get down to Bloody Basin road and the I-17 is shut down. I get on google to find out if I can bypass the accident via the road through bumble Bee. No dice. I considered the road through bloody basin to 7 springs but with the before mentioned truck problem and only me and my kid I decide against it. I stat in traffic for over an hour to get to Sunset Point where they turned us around and sent us up through Prescott to get home. The whole day turned into a giant cluster F. All the points the road met with any other road was a major backup. Then I finally get through Wickenburg and down to Surprise and Grand Ave is closed for a motorcycle wreck. I can't win for loosing. Then to add insult to injury after I got home I went to put one of my camping boxes away and it slipped. I heard the lovely sound of my lantern globe expose inside it.... If I didn't have some important work due today I would have just went camping again with my son last night and said F it. Harley

    Finally, The Holy Grail!

I picked up a 1000 GM210's at Sportsmans last Friday. They didn't have any boxes, only 100pk so I bought all 10. I have not seen any GM215's though. They have tons of GM155.
  23. I almost did this, and I should have. I got home at 730. They diverted traffic back to prescott and down To Wickenburg. Those roads are not equipped for that kind of volume, and at the obvious choke points there was no traffic control to even attempt to make it better.

Taylor Puts Meat in the Freezer....Again.

Yep. I noticed too. Congrats to her on a nice elk. I am twice her age and killed less elk than her.

I had several bulls bugle last night in unit 7. I wish I had my cow call to try and get closer to them.
