I had speedygoss on here put 5 port slabbed muscle brake on my 300 win mag. Made it shoot like my 243. A smaller version might work well on this build. The badgers look sweet too. We had a APA micro bastard installed on my buddies 3006 at the same time mine was done and it made a heck of a difference on his light 3006's recoil.

Check out the Toyo RT. It is kind of between an AT and an MT. Alot of diesel guys and jeep guys are starting to run them. They are more aggressive than an AT but not as aggressive as an MT. If you are not running 15-20k miles a year on your truck though the Toyo MT might still be a good option. Harley

Go to Discount and have them order you the Nitto or Toyo's. Those are the only 2 mud tires I would run on the street and expect to do well. If you are looking for straight up nasty mud tires and toughness at the expense of street miles and ride - Interco Swamper TSL SX's. That is what I will put on my K5 Blazer when I get it back up and running. It will only be a wheeling/hunting rig basically though that will get trailered most places.

Nitto Trail Grappler or Toyo MT's. Those are the 2 tires to get IMO.

I am glad I am not alone... I spent 7 days in 7e and I didn't see a single live elk until day 6. It was 381 yards away and it's vitals were covered by a tree. Tag soup sucks especially when I know freaking road hunters were killing elk. I am no master hunter but I hiked at least 40 miles.

I want that 6.5 but can't justify it...

I wish my dad's back wasn't so messed up that he could still hunt with me. Congrats, and cherish the moments while you can. Good on the other hunters for helping out, and it sounds like karma paid them back quickly. Harley

They are terrible in Colorado as well. I lived up.there for a few years and driving county roads sucked because of the idiots.

I second that. 2 buddies of mine have them and they are nice and shoot well.

I want to start working on a 30 caliber longer range elk/deer rifle. I have 2 options to start from. Weatherby Vanguard in 300 weatherby mag. Or Savage tactical 110FP in 300 win. Mag. Both need a scope and a muzzle brake right off the bat. The savage probably has better accuracy potential but is much heavier. I can load for both rounds. I think the scope I am leaning towards is the Vortex Viper HSLR FFP 4x16x50. Thoughts? Insight? Budget is a concern. I don't have $3k to spend making something super sweet just yet. Thanks Harley

Project Medium Range Big Game Hammer

I am as long as I can go and keep them short enough to fit the magazine. I will tweak them some more, and work on a load with the 210HVLD. I shot some of those HVLDs at 500 yards and they were flying well and hitting hard. I need to dial those in too. There was a pretty good crosswind today so 500 wasn't easy to make contact on the smaller plates. I need the new scope to show up so I can start dialing for distance and wind instead of hold overs and Kentucky windage. -

1 more day at the range today before I leave. I am very happy with how today went. My scope for phase 2 isn't here yet so I am rocking the 3x9x40 for elk. It is fine though. It was dead on from 100-300 yards today. The 208gr ELDM are showing well, and the Tourbon cheek rest/ammo holder is pretty sweet. It gets me right in line with the scope. -
Thank you everyone. I will let you know. Shane I may take you up on the offer. I will let you know ASAP. THANKS!!! Harley

I am not 100% sure I will need it but I would like to arrange the use of a nice tent, preferably something like a Kodiak Canvas Flexbow tent for an elk hunt in 7E starting on Dec. 2 if possible. I own a flexbow already but may be using it myself so I want to arrange one for the hunter also if necessary. I am supposed to have a camper for my hunt group but it may not be there the whole hunt. If anyone has one they would be willing to lone out please let me know. Thank you Harley

What does everyone do for hearing protection when you hunt with a muzzle brake? This will be my first hunt with a rifle with a brake. I won't lie, with a normal rifle I let it ride without hearing protection, but this rifle is loud as heck. Harley

1000 available in 100 rd packs. 4.19 a pack.

I have 2000. If you need a few hundred let me know.

Bump. They have 6 bricks in stock.
-
I have thought about taking the mini dyson to vacuum the tent out before I take it down...

It is a shame that the Krag is drilled, but those are SWEET rifles.

Very nice. To have 2 bulls by age 14 is awesome. Alot of guys will go a lifetime without 2 good bulls on theor wall. Harley

No more scouting, just hunting. Everytime I scout this year something brakes on my truck. I went up again today and gathered more intel. Got some ok intel. On the way out though a lost the carrier bearing in my rear driveshaft 15 miles from Flagstaff. 5 miles of dirt, 10 miles of highway. I called upon the bailing wire gods to get me to flagstaff and they answered. I wired the bearing well enough to do about 50 down the highway into town. With a little help from friends I procured a new bearing and found a shop open on Sunday. He was reluctant to accept a 2.5 hr book job at 230pm on sunday but did. An hour later I was rolling again. 7 Day Auto Repair helped me out big time. I can't thank them enough. Harley

If anyone is headed to 7e this weekend to scout and wants to trade some contact info let me know. I am going to be up there with my 4 year old doing light scouting, but I will be alone otherwise. Harley

Project Medium Range Big Game Hammer

Phase 1 is complete for the short term. Phase 1 included the muzzle brake, and putting on a basic scope to start shooting the with. It has a take off redfield 3x9x40 revolution on it now. Now I need to dial in a round for it. Phase 2 is on order. Phase 2 is a Vortex 6x24x50 HSLR scope and Talley lightweight rings. They MAY get here before my elk hunt, but if not I am going to rock phase 1 as it stands. The tare is the first bunch of rounds I shot after site in. They are 208gr ELD-M bullets over H1000. I have berger 210 HVLD's loaded along with more ELD-M for next week's range session.
