    My 2016 Cow Elk

Nice. Congrats on the success. I was across the way in 7e and got skunked. I am tempted to put in for 7w though as I have a good idea where to ambush some in 7w.

    28 Nosler

Like mentioned, they need something new to market. Whats old is new. It has all been done in the past, most of this stuff is just rehashing history with a new name and slightly different case. Technological advances in bullets and powder are much more exciting than these new calibers. They make much more difference than a new caliber name. The 6.5x55 swede has been doing everything the 6.5 Creedmoor has for over 120 years. Modern actions, powders, and bullets are what have advanced since 120 years ago.

$2500 budget to get into long range

The Sendero with a good scope is a great choice. A used gun in good condition may be even better bang for the buck if you know what you are looking for and what is around. I am working up an older Savage Tactical in 300wm right now to kind of be along these same lines. It isn't going to be a light gun, but it should be pretty accurate when I am done hopefully.
  7. I made the mistake of trying one of the calvin elite triggers on one of Lance Kenyons rifles. Now I need to upgrade the trigger on my Savage 110 non-accutrigger. Should I do timney? Or _________? Harley

Looking for an old mine in the Mazatzals

The one area I see on google earth that appears to be something like the article mentions is here. 34*03'22.49" 111*26'47.94" The ridge runs from just south of matazal peak and heads northeast away from the main range toward Rye.

makes you wonder where that one went..... One of the ones that came back was a nice Belgium BAR in 7mm mag so I am not quick to point fingers. That is a dang nice rifle too.

    Stolen gun recovered

Glad you are getting your gun back. My dad had 5 long guns stolen when I was young, probably about 10. They ended up finding 4 of the a few months later in a raid on a crack house in south phoenix. He got them back but he nevery flet the same about them. They rarely came out of the safe after that. The LEOs didn't return the magazines, which I heard is common. The weird part was one was a British 303, and it wouldn't chamber a round fully when we got it back. He took it to a smith and apparently someone, probably an LEO had pulled the bolt and unscrewed the bolt head a couple turns. It would close on an empty chamber, but not a loaded one. The one they didn't get back was the one he was most upset about. It was one of the nicer fully engraved Browning BPS 12ga. It was his favorite dove gun. Harley

    Savage 110 trigger?

Stomp, I am looking for more of a nice hunting trigger. Probably 2-2.5lbs. SSS says it can get up to 2lbs max, but would I be better served with a Timney or SAV-1? I would like a Calvin Elite like trigger, but this gun is going to be a field gun. I want a nice clean trigger more than a crazy light trigger.

    Savage 110 trigger?

I have heard it is difficult to get SSS triggers, but have heard good things about them. They make them in runs I guess and are often sold out with several month backlogs. Thank you for the input. I may pursue trying to source an SSS trigger to see what they are like.

    Youth deer/elk setup....

6.5 cm, 260 rem, or 6.5x55. I prefer the last but if you don't reload it isn't the best option.

    Mike Rowe Speaking More Truth

For non-Facebookers here is the text. I don't Facebook but stole the link with my wife's account. Off The Wall Marla W writes... I just read that youre speaking at the SHOT show in Las Vegas this week. VERY disappointing. There are already too many guns in this country, and too much faux patriotism surrounding the second amendment. I cant believe youd risk your good name associating with a bunch of gun nuts. Youve lost a fan. Well, hi there Marla. And Happy Sunday! Its true, Ill be in Vegas this week, addressing a roomful of people who like to shoot guns. Im not sure what Im going to say yet probably the same thing I tell anyone who invites me to discuss the various ways we might close Americas skills gap. But one things for sure - while Im at there, Im going to make sure I see my friends at The SEAL Family Foundation. Youd love these guys, Marla. They look after the families of those involved with Naval Special Warfare. Remember Ty Woods and Glenn Dougherty - two of the men who died in Benghazi? The SEAL Family Foundation raised over $500,000 for their memorial fund. Anyway, they have a booth at The SHOT Show, so Im going to stop by and thank them for their efforts, as well as for their help with a team-building event I arranged for my staff before Christmas. I dont know if youve had much experience with corporate team-building, Marla, but Ive never cared much for such endeavors. I mean really, how much team spirit can you inspire at a golf outing? How much career motivation can one glean from a zip line adventure? How much self-directed goal setting can be extracted from watching a magician levitate in some hotel ballroom? I wanted to do something different for the millennials at mikeroweWORKS, so I called a guy I met through The SEAL Family Foundation, and asked if he could arrange a non-traditional corporate team event. Something that might allow my team to rub elbows with veterans. Ideally, I said, I'd like something fun, but uncomfortable. Well, it was a great day, Marla, and I wish you could have joined us. We started with skydiving. Jade ditched her five-inch heels, Jordan put her hair in a ponytail, and along with Taylor, (who will do anything,) and Aaron, (who hadnt even officially started yet,) they jumped without hesitation. Good for them! Even my old pal Chuck a non-millennial who once swore hed never jump out of a perfectly good airplane - turned his fate over to a stranger strapped to his back. (Granted, he crapped his pants on the way out the door, but thats always been a part of his morning ritual, and hardly noteworthy.) After that, we reconnoitered to an undisclosed location and introduced ourselves to Matt, Bobby, Jeremy, and Danielle - four SEALs who spent the last fifteen years getting shot at by bad guys and returning the favor with far superior results. They in turn, introduced us to 20,000 rounds of live ammunition, and an arsenal of firearms not currently available for purchase in the state of California. For the next few hours, the SEALs took my employees through an accelerated small arms training session. There was an emphasis on safety, obviously. Some of my people had never held a gun before, much less fired one. So there was sometrepidation. But after an hour of intense instruction, everyone got comfortable with the Glock 9mm. Then the AR-15. Then a variety of sniper rifles. We all got to shoot an M-1 from WWII, a Steyr from Austria, the Scar Heavyeven a Barrett 50 caliber. Fifty yards, a hundred yards, then two hundred yards. Their progress was impressive. Their enthusiasm was infectious. At 400 yards, my office manager was hitting a target the size of a pie plate. Unbelievable. Afterwards, we ate ribs and drank beer in a local bar with our instructors. We also listened to war stories from Ramadi and Fallujah and a few places I hadnt heard of, from people who wrote the book on teamwork. Fascinating. Eye-opening. Humbling. I wish I could share their stories here, but for all sorts of reasons, I cant. What I can tell do, is tell you how remarkable it is to see people who have never even held a gun go from uncomfortable, to tentative, to comfortable, to very comfortable, to empowered. One day Marla, I hope youll have the opportunity to experience something similar, and listen to the stories of people who use guns to protect us. Obviously, you and I have a difference of opinion regarding the role of the second amendment in modern society. But thanks to the first amendment, we can express our differences in whatever way we prefer. We can criticize those with whom we disagree, or we can try to persuade them. We can make a case as to why we believe what we believe, or we can simply announce our disappointment to the world, as though our feelings alone are enough to justify our beliefs. As for you Marla you can either stomp off in a cloud of righteous indignation, or you can accompany me to the SHOT Show as my guest, and see what all the fuss is about. Either way, its nice to have choices, dont you think? Best, Mike PS. If you do want to come, better RSVP quick Im leaving tomorrow morning, and youre gonna need your own hotel room. (Just so were clear) xo Mike

    Millenials..

P.s. Mike Rowe is the voice people need to be hearing these days. Not actors, politicians, and singers. They have no sense of the real word. People like Mike Rowe speak the plain honest truth, but nobody wants to listen to truth anymore.

    Millenials..

I was literally upset that I technically fall into this group, just barely. I didn't realize they lumped me with this group til about 6 months ago. I was literally upset. I may be a city boy, and I didn't have a ton of good quality training on how to hunt or do things mechanically, but I did receive some of the basics from my dad. I took the basics and expanded my knowledge. First in mechanical things like auto mechanics, reloading, general repair. Then welding and fabrication. Now I am working on hunting. I will honestly say I am more of a jack of all trades, master of none. Alot of the issues of the younger kids is lack of work ethic and expecting people or machines to do it for them. This starts with parenting, or lack of. They are told to work smarter, not harder. They are told everyone needs to go to college to be anything. Trade schools are almost dead, and they don't respect a tradesman or a hard days work. Hard work and half a brain will get you a long way. I have worked my way from the bottom of a profession to the top several times with nothing more than a high school diploma.
