    Late Bull 7e- trailcams?

Wait. After that last October hunt those woods get much more quiet. Alot less chance it walks away. I was up there last year after the deer hunt and cow hunts scouting for my December cow hunt. I didn't see a single person for 1.5 days, and I cover alot of ground. Scout hard. That late hunt isn't easy.

    .257 Roy Loads

I have not done it personally, but what I found from people who had done it said that the new brass is softer and more malleable. It is easier to get the soft brass to form with less issues. I have heard you can try and do it with once fired but you are more prone to cracks and such. It is worth a shot if you have a bunch of once fired.

    .257 Roy Loads

When you make your 257 brass from 7 mag do you use new 7 mag brass, or can use use once-fired? Also, how has your neck thickness been? Are they tight? Have you had to turn the necks at all? I only use new brass to start loads. Originally i used .264 win mag brass because I found 50rds of Winchester brass on the shelf. I loaded that for awhile. The necks were a little tight, but not bad. I got about 4-5 loads out of most of that brass before the primer pockets got loose enough to make them trash. I now load Remington 7mm Rem Mag brass, and only start with new fresh brass. The necks actually seem to be better than the 264 brass was, and I am getting a little better lift out of these, probably 5-7 loadings before the pockets are loose. I have gotten an occasional neck crack with both types of brass, but not often. Neither type of brass has had to be cut for length which is nice. I will true them up every 2nd or 3rd loading if they need it. I form my brass by full length sizing the new brass, then load it with a lighter load and shoot it for practice. Then I load them up as normal, but I keep in mind that the case capacity is about 5% less than a true 257 case so I just load til I find pressure signs and an accuracy node. I got lucky and found a good load fairly easily that will shot well under MOA with 115gr Bergers over H1000. I can get the full load info if you need it. The reason I originally loaded 264 brass was because I own a 7mm and I didn't want to mix up rounds. Once my 264 brass was toast though any brass was hard to find let alone 264 brass, so I moved to 7mm Remington headstamp because I had a bunch of it brand new sitting on my bench. At the same time though I got rid of all my once fired Remington headstamp brass that was actually 7mm Mag so I reduced the risk of mix up. I load remington brass for my 257 Weatherby, and federal brass for my 7mm. That way I know what rounds are what without having to pull the rounds out of the case and look at the shoulders and bullets.

    300 RUM Load Help

Not a 300 Rum, but my 300 win mag shoots the Hornady 208gr ELD-M bullets sub-moa with H1000. Like everyone else has said. 190+ gr is where it is at with these bigger 30 caliber rounds.

    Budget vortex riflescopes

Sportsman's had the Savage Axis on sale for $299, and I think it had another $50 mail in rebate to boot. Might be a good deal for you too rifle wise if you don't already have 1 purchased.

    Budget vortex riflescopes

For what it is worth, I compared the Redfield Revolutions to the Diamondback side by side and the Redfield was much more clear at the edges and seemed better overall. I also like their BDC reticle better. This was not the new Diamondback HP though so I don't know about that. I personally really like the Redfield Revolution as a budget scope. If you are willing to spend a little more you may be able to get better, but that is a great bang for the buck option. I have over 600 rounds downrange with the one on my 257 Weatherby with ZERO issue. I have a total of 4 of the Redfield revolutions in a mix of 3x9 and 4x12 models. Several buddies have them, and they have all performed very well. I little step up might get you into a Leupold with CDS though, which would be nice so you can dial for range instead of hold over.

    Sig Sauer scopes

Does anyone know of any shops around town that stock them? I would like to see them in person before I make a final decision on a scope for a new rifle.

Classic Looking Scope For CZ 550FS?

I stopped at Sportsman's today at lunch and looked at a fair amount of scopes to see what I liked. I think I made a mistake by looking at the Nightforce you mentioned. Dang that is a nice scope. I think I am going to have to save my pennies for one of those. I really wanted to talk myself into a Leupold with the gold ring and CDS, but that Nightforce made the VX3i look very average, and even was nicer than the VX6 I looked at...

    Leather cheek riser?

Thanks guys. Those guys look really talented so hopefully when I am ready I can get something nice made up.
  10. I just got a CZ 550FS with the mannlicher style stock. I am going to need a cheek rise pad for it, but want something that looks classic and classy. I want to keep the theme of this rifle classic and old school. That is why I am after something leather and good looking. Ammo carriers would be a nice bonus but not required. Any ideas? Thanks Harley
  11. A lot of times I use WD-40 to start a cleaning, but finish with other stuff. I often spray the bore of a barrel with WD-40 to get a solvent/lubricant in there and punch it with a brush to break up the big stuff and get it out. Then I work with a cleaning solvent to finish the clean. Brake Cleaner and carb cleaner can mess up a gun though depending on the parts. I used to have a Marlin M-60 .22LR. My dads cousin talked him into using 1 of the 2 to clean guns with and when he sprayed that in the action of that model 60 it melt some of the plastic parts. Then I had a walking stick with a .22 caliber hole in the end.
  12. Just be careful with carb and brake cleaner around plastic or composite parts. It can melt or destroy it depending on the composition of products.
  13. I am ready except I need my bird stamp. I ordered in my shells and picked them up last week. This year will be the first year my 5 year old will be going out with me, and I may even let him take a couple shots with his .410 if he wants. I am hoping this year will be a good year. My normal spot outside Wickenburg has been up and down the last couple years. I even took Friday Sept. 1st off work to get out on opening day.

Looking for a base camp tent

This model. http://www.kodiakcanvas.com/10-x-14-ft-flex-bow-vx-tent/ I bought mine on Amazon from the manufacturers site. The price was better than retail. I also bought a bunch of Amazon gift cards from frys to get fuel points. Even if the gift cards are only 2x points that is over a $1.00 off per gallon on fuel. I got it during 4x points, and my truck will hold all 35 gallons of fuel. I saved $70 in diesel fuel from the gift card points.

Looking for a base camp tent

If you get the Kodiak pay the money for the one with the big side windows. I have the one in the middle with the top vents, but when I went camping when it was warm out I really wished I had gotten the model with the big side windows.

Looking for a base camp tent

During javelina season we had 3 adults in my 10x14 Kodiak. It wasn't bad at all. 4 adults is about the most that would be comfortable, but still be snug. 2 of the adults on this trip are larger than normal humans though so that is part of the reason it was snug. I am 6'4" 300lbs and sleep on an XL cot. If you are normal size, and sleep in a bag on the ground you would probably have no issues with 4-5 people.

I have a Kodiak Canvas 10x14 and love it. You can't use a wood stove in it, but you can use the propane heater.

    Termite Experts?

If you decide to try and do it yourself I can lend you the hammer drill, bits, paint pot, and blower nozzle. You would need an air compressor and depending on how big the house is, some extra air hoses.

    Decision help please

7.62x39 or 6.5 Grendel. I say 7.62x39 because ammo is cheap. It is like having a 300 blackout but being able to afford to shoot it.
  23. I am an oddball and have already figured out and acquired what I plan to be the first rifles for my two boys (5 and 2). 1 is a 6.5x55 sporterized mauser, and the other is a Ruger M77 in 7x57 mauser. I like the old school rounds, and things that are different than the norm.

    Termite Experts?

Not strikeforce. I did my last termite treatment myself. You can buy termidor online or at some local pest control shops around town. I have a concrete hammer drill so that part was free. I did have to figure out a way to pump the chemical in the holes. The answer was a paint sprayer pot from harbor freight and an air compressor. I bought an air blow gun with 18" wand to use to inject it in the hose. If you have dirt around the house you just dig trenches and pour in 5 gallon buckets of chemicals you mix up from the concentrate. I did a 1300 sqft house with a helper in about 5hrs. 3/4 of the perimeter is concrete so it was alot of drilling.
