I finally got to the range with my dads 260 Remington. We broke it in a couple months ago, but had not started load development. Today was day 1. I had loads with 135gr Berger Classic Hunters loaded over varying charges of H414. The rifle seemed accurate at almost all load charges but these 2 stuck out.

Today's load development was a flop. I think the barrel was getting to dirty. The best group of the day was some random Nosler Partitions I loaded awhile back which was also the first 3 rounds I fired today. I just got done scrubbing the bore, and will try again another day. I also had a little assassin homie of mine stop by right before I left to help brighten the day. 120gr Nosler Partitions.

Ever heard of a howage? I hadn't until I started looking at how to rebuild my Weatherby Vanguuard (Howa Action) in 257 weatherby that I burned the barrel out of. It is a howa using a barrel nut like a savage. I found Oregon Mountain Rifles online who is building pre-fit & pre-chambered barrels that are carbon fiber wrapped. For the price I had to take a gamble and be a guinea pig. OMR seems to be a newer company, but seem to build some nice stuff. Through the transition the owner Lee was great to work with and very responsive. I ordered a .257 weatherby mag barrel with 1:8 twist finished at 26". The barrel weighs 2lb 11.5oz. The barrel looks great despite UPS trying to destroy it. I also ordered a Bell and Carlson stock for it. The rifle already has a Timney trigger and Burris Veracity that will go back on it. Now I will be taking it all down to Eric @ Axisworks to let him work his magic and fit it, true the action, cerakote it, and add a muzzle brake. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

My parents are leaving for Missouri tomorrow to look for a retirement house. They are tired of the heat here and can't afford Colorado so they are looking at Missouri.

Point of rocks is a nice campground if you want to be near town. Lynx lake has camp spots, but good luck finding one available especially that will fit a 35'.

Legality of selling or buying a firearm to/from a non resident
Hoss50 replied to Boarman03's topic in The Campfire
P.S. just follow my personal rule and this isn't an issue. Don't ever sell guns or tools. I have honestly sold guns over the years, but never to a random person. I had personal knowledge of the people I sold to so I trusted the sale. -

Non-residents cannot buy handguns in other states through FFLs. Long guns is dependent on the state you are from. When I used to work retail gun sales we had a list of no go states that we couldn't sell long guns too. It wasn't about borders as I recall, more about the home states laws prohibiting it. CA, NY, and a group of other states. I know when I was a kid my dad bought a long gun in TX from an FFL with no issues. -
I would cut the old one off and weld a new one on. You can repair it, but it might be ready to crack somewhere else too. If you are going to repair it you need to stop drill the crack, grind it, weld it, and plate it. I would also plate the opposite side since you have an known weak point. Depending how it is attached it may be easier to cut the whole thing off and weld a new one on.

Arizona Bag might do it too.

How big is the tear? I used Kodiaks repair kit ot repair a couple small hokes in mine and it worked well.

Randall's told me the other day they had 3 coming in soon. Might check with them.

That is a shame. It was a great place when I was a kid.

Clean it and shoot it.

Yes I am. Just because I don't currently hunt it doesn't mean i can't have an opinion on. It also doesn't mean my opinion may or may not have validity or at least things worth discussing or considering. I don't murder people, but I can have an opinion on it correct? Or do only murderers get to have opinions on it because they are the ones directly involved? I also talk about hunting with my 6.5x55.

I personally don't want a separate primitive season, I think all the muzzy hunts should be more traditional. No optics or magnification, and black powder or substitute only. They are making muzzle loaders now that shoot smokeless powder and have effective accurate range of 300-400+ yards. That was not the intention of the hunts. If you are shooting one of those high end muzzle loaders you are basically shooting a brassless Ruger #1.

1. Muzzleloader should be more traditional. I personally would like it to be a no optic/magnification allowed. Hunt with black powder or black powder substitute only for propellant. 2. Leave the BP system alone. Nothing is better. The old guys waiting 20 years for tags is a choice. They know the game, and chose to play it. Having a shot at drawing any tag at any time with the current system is what makes it fun. Nobody would play the lottery if only the people playing it the longest won. 3. Fix point guard. 4. More officers and better enforcement. 5. Serial poachers should never be able to hunt again. 3 strikes and you are out. 6. More in person hunters safety classes, and make hunters safety or some kind of conservation class a requirement to hunt big game. The class should include info about staying on open roads, firearm safety, common courtesy, ethics, etc. 7. I am sure there are more.

There was one here in the classifieds yesterday.

I am glad it isn't a longbed with a stick. I would have to have bought it. Good luck with the sale.

Does anyone have any info for scopes or mounts for a Dragunov that are good quality? A buddy of mine has one with a damaged scope and is looking for something to replace it with. Either an integral style like it had with a decent scope, or a mount setup so he can mount something normal to it.

Who gets the $550? The school or does it get donated to charity as part of a giving back to the community type thing?

BPS is nice. Find a used one and you will be well under $700. -
Flatline maps. Just make sure you have the most recent version. I bought one from a local archery shop a few years ago before my 12AE hunt, and my buddy ordered one direct. My version was older and didn't have all the updated info. I was following my map and ended up on a road that didn't exist anymore. It dropped you down a nasty hill, and once i was down the hill the road was blocked. I made it back up the hill, but it wasn't fun. My buddies version of that map showed it marked impassable. 12AE is an awesome hunt. Congrats on the tag. Scout as much as you can and be ready for anything. It can be warm, it can be cold, it can be snowing, etc. There are nice bucks to be had in 12AE, but don't expect them to be behind every bush. People make it sound like killing a nice buck is easy in 12A. That isn't true. I got lucky and dropped a nice buck opening morning, but we hunted hard for 5 more days to and my buddy ended up settling for a small fork horn, which was the first buck we had an opportunity at since opening day. When the gunshots start, the deer are very good at playing hide and seek.

The shelf kit is a must have.

I always see these great sales during years I don't draw a tag and have no real excuse to order new stuff...

I spent alot of deer seasons and camping trips in the Bradshaw's behind Mayer as a kid. Deer hunt is ok up there. I do love those mountains myself. I spent alot of days four wheeling the westside of table mesa too. It is a fun place. I found some of what had to be old Indian ruins behind mayer about 8 years ago on a Deer hunt. It was at the top of a big hill and must have been a lookout or something. It was a big wall built out of neatly stacked flat rocks. I wish I had spent more time looking at it, but instead I just noted it in my head and moved on looking for deer.
