Brake and Accuracy. I know age old question
Hoss50 replied to apache12's topic in Long Range Shooting
Put a brake on it. Axisworks has self timing brakes now, I am about to get one for my sons new rifle. Axisworks has out brakes on a couple of my rifles and they GREATLY reduce recoil. I would look at his 5 port series to maximize recoil reduction. With a 6lb rifle you will want a brake for sure and keep the caliber down, they will be punchy. For the calibers you listed and 400 yard shots I would look at 270, 6.5 creed, 308, 280AI. The brake shouldn't hurt accuracy. My stock vanguard 300 weatherby will shoot .75 MOA with its brake. If you want bad accuracy let her shoot a light rifle without the brake and it will beat the crap out of her and she will start flinching. -
I have a Burris Fullfield E1 with MOA reticle 4.5x14x42 I would trade for it. Brand new never mounted.

257 Weatherby Action and bolt
Hoss50 replied to Redmist257's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
You don't need a 257 specific action, just a long action with magnum bolt face. 7mm Rem mag. 300 win mag, etc. -
What rings would you recommend for a budget oriented rifle. This is for my kids new ruger American. It ships with a Pic rail, so I want a good set of rings that are not $150 a set. What is the best bang for the buck?

Glock 10mm was my choice. Sig is bring out a 10mm though, and that has been super interested. I shot it a few weeks ago before it was released and I shot it really well...
-
Let me know what you have. Preferably the same head stamp once fired or new.
-
Yes because I have other 308 and don't want to mix up loading the wrong thing in the wrong gun.
-
I will look at them for sure. Thank you.
-
100 or so if they are the same head stamp and the price is fair.

I would like the size 10s please. -
I have more slower powders than faster ones. I am thinking lighter bullets might help with less recoil though. I am going to try a few different things and see what I can find in stock. Bullet wise and see what will shoot with the powders I have around. I have some H4350 so I might give that a run with some heavier bullets.

I found a box of 150gr ELDX and 168gr Berger HVLD in my stash today, but I think the Bergers are to heavy for the small case. I will probably try some ELDX just for fun though.

I ordered my son his first rifle, and want a simple scope for him with BDC style reticle. The only scope I have in house for it is the Burris Fullfield E1 with MOA reticle 4.5x14x42. I want to trade it for something with a little less magnification and simpler reticle with BDC. Redfield Revolution 3x9x40, 4x12x40, Leupold 3x9, etc. I can put money in on my end if needed for something that is nicer. Or i will sell this outright for $180. It is brand new never mounted.

I am thinking like 130-140gr mono's like a TTSX or Hammer. Maybe a partirion. Sometime tough in case he misses the boiler room and hit shoulders or something. I have a pound of Varget that I bought for a rainy day so maybe I will start there since I don't really have many powders in the burn area that this round seems to like.

Ya, it was pretty cool. I was able 2 shoot 2 different guns that are not out yet. The Sig Cross PRS and Sig 320 10mm. I am going to have to buy that 10mm. It ran nice. It was pretty well run and I am sure will be better next year.

I shot a 6.5 creedmoor suppressed yesterday at Sig Freedom Days! 😂

What is the dot reticle?

I just got a newer truck that has paint in good shape. What are you using on your truck to help minimize the effects of AZ Pinstripe? I don't want to spend a ton of money on a ceramic, but does wax or things like that help give it some buffer to help minimize scratches?
-
For moose, Hammers or Barnes.
-
Yes scammer. He PMed me out of nowhere trying to sell me something.
-
My job requires I have a vehicle that looks respectable so I have to compromise. I can't have it all nasty scratched to heck, but if I can get a decent amount of it to buff out that is ok with me to have some scratches.
-
It is gun metal grey. I don't expect no scratches, but want to know if something can be applied before a hunt to help prevent/minimize the scratch when you clean it up after.
-
I saw the aftermath of this in 12a years ago. A road we went do the day before had branches that would scratch a truck. The next day it was all trimmer back so someone could get in with less scratches.
