Load data for staball6.5 and a 7-08
Hoss50 replied to Crazymonkey's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have just started playing with 6.5 staball and 7mm-08 recently. It shot some 139gr SP well in my kids rifle, but I have not really started grouping or final load development. -

Hodgoden powder website shows a load for 150gr TTSX starting around 44gr working to 49gr. It shows a 140gr SP starting at about 46gr working to 51gr compressed. I would start around that 44gr area and work up. https://www.hodgdonreloading.com/reloading-data-center?rdc=true&type=54 -
Home built maybe...

Yep, the child won't get the lifetime bonus point though until the field day is completed. That is why I am driving to Tucson this week, so in February my son will have his hunters ED bonus point for the elk draw coming up.

I am headed to Tucson next week to get my kid thru his field day. It was the closest one at 2hr20min drive time. Next closest was Safford or Kingman... It would be much nicer to get a day in Phoenix, but they don't have any openings soon, and when I signed up for the backlog list for the Phoenix Date we were 37th on the alternate list... I emailed G&F and they said they are doing what they can. I asked if they could start a class that would charge a fee so they could maybe hire a company or instructor and they said it was against the rules if the federal money Grant's for the program. They said they don't enough trained volunteers, but they also said they don't have any classes to train more volunteers...

2 boxes of 243 at Hits and Misses on 67th and peoria as of 30min ago. Federal blue box.

I saw a box 2 days ago at Sportsman's north phoenix. I probably have some bullets too if you need them. Bruno's has had 115gr Berger pretty regularly and some Hornady too.

They don't usually freeze it if they are going to cut it within a week or so I don't think. They hung mine in a cooler for about 7-10 days I believe and then cut it after it had aged. They did a good job on mine and I would totally use them again, but the last couple hunts I drew were not near Flagstaff.

Check with Healys and Tactical Studios.

Millers runs trailers up north for alot of the seasons. I am sure they have quite a backlog. It is nice to be able to drop your meat close by at one of their trailers instead of having to take it to town or have a bunch of big coolers in camp to hold meat. I have used their trailer services several times and it was nice to have so I could get back to camp to help my friends continue to hunt. They do good work. I don't love their snack sticks, but the rest of the stuff is very good. I have used Casey's in Flagstaff with good luck too. This year we also processed a bear at Von Hansens and they did great work, but were pricey to get special stuff made. If I were on the I17 corridor for my hunts I would use Casey's or Carl's. If I hunt by Payson I would use Millers or Von Hanson's. That is assuming you live in Phoenix like me. Side note. If you draw Kaibab, the processor in Fredonia does great work too. I forgot the name, but they are on the west end of town. Super awesome.

Axisworks in Tempe. They do great work. Super nice to deal with.

They have the Gen 1 non-Us for $119. Is the HD worth it for the little extra money. I ask because I really like my 8x42 Gen 1 alot.

Temp stable powder for a 7-08?
Hoss50 replied to Crazymonkey's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If the magnetospeed was attached that could cause the group size change possibly. For powder I am going to start working with 6.5 staball in my sons 7mm-08. It is supposed to be less temp sensitive and good in this size case. I have a couple pounds of Varget too of the 6.5 staball doesn't work out. 6.5 staball is way easier to find the Varget though which is why I want to try it first. -
I am thinking about upgrading my dove/do all shotgun but don't know alot about what is good anymore. I am looking for an auto loader 12ga probably. I love the look of the old A5 and have thought about that, but they are $$$. At the same time I use my shotgun more than any other gun so spending money on one is probably something I should do. What is a good auto loader that would be a good dove gun, but capable of Turkey, pheasant, goose, etc. I shoot my dad old Winchester, but it is only a 2.75" chamber so Turkey and stuff is out for it. What do you shoot? What has good longevity? I have no real experience with inertia guns, are they worth it and reliable?

What budget? I bought a Bushnell AR optic LPVO 1-6x for an AR and put it in a burris QD cantilever mount. It isn't fully sited in yet, but that did not stop it from cracking a 18" steel plate at 500 yards over and over. It has a hold over reticle setup for 223/556. https://www.bushnell.com/riflescopes/view-all-riflescopes/ar-optics-1-6x24-illuminated-riflescope/BU-AR71624I.html

Ditch the 30mm rings. It will cost you more money for 30mm scopes and most 30mm scopes have more complicated reticles. -

Keep it something that doesn't need parallax adjustment. 3x9 or some 4x12. I personally like Leupold with a simple hold over reticle, but vortex or burris are good choices too. -
Will do. I have a couple people who really want to see how it looks.

Before I posted this I ordered a ELP 4X16 version, but I figured I might as well ask to see if anyone had them though just for fun. It is supposed to arrive in about 6 weeks so I will see more then.

If it falls thru please let me know.
