Why not another 257 ackley if you already have one that she likes, or give her the ackley and get a new you gun? I like stuff that is not as mainstream though so I like things like 257 ackley, 7x57 Mauser, 6.5x55 Swedish, etc. in the caliber range you are looking at. They are harder to find rifles in though. I have a 257 weatherby vanguard ( the older style) and I really like it. Recoil will be to much without a muzzle break though.

Get off the beaten path. By that hunt (I was on the same hunt last year) the deer have been hunted for a month straight. The bucks will not be near roads or easily accessed areas because everyone has been waiting in those places for the last month trying to kill them. Find a place you can get deep in and get a good glassing spot BEFORE daylight. Last year that hunt was one of the least successfully hunts in the state. We saw everything last year except a buck. Bear, turkey, does, etc. Take a sidearm especially if your hiking in the dark. A buddy of mine got in a staring contest with an unknown animal before dawn last year. He had my 44 mag so he just waited for daylight and luckily it was just a doe. If you are not prepared to get up early and put on some decent boot work on that hunt you are pretty much going to just have a camping trip where you bring a gun. I have only really hunted in some of the higher elevations in 29 so if that is what you need info on let me know and I can offer a little help via PM on locations. If you are in Phoenix go to the Wide World of Maps and get the topo maps for the are you are interested in, they are some of the best info available along with Google Earth. Take your topo maps to a teaching store to get them laminated for a reasonable price.

The page won't even load right now even in Google Chrome -
Absolutely. They will be overkill but would work. Depending on slab depth you might have to trim them down but wouldn't go anywhere.

Does anyone have any use for big Hilti brand 5/8 anchors? I have a bunch left under my bench from my construction days. I think they are 6 or 8" set depth. I believe they are hammer in style and I also have some epoxy style all thread style. I think I have the epoxy packets still but I am sure they are long expired. If you have a use for them lets talk. I am willing to trade or sell them for pennies on the dollar from they they retail for. Harley

I have noticed more lately too and we even found some .22 short & .22WRF for my buddies old Winchesters recently which was cool. It is still very spotty and the prices can be reasonable all the way to insane depending on the shop and quality of ammo. -

Same here. I don't have a ton, but if it gets your kid hunting I can spare a couple boxes. I am in Peoria. -
So the way I am reading this is Pinery Canyon is open from the monument side up to the top of the mountains but is closed down on the east side of the mountains toward Portal? Or is Pinery open all the way from the monument side to Portal?

looking for a good diesel mechanic
Hoss50 replied to desertheritagetaxidermy's topic in Classified Ads
Pro diesel or Diesel Derminator https://m.facebook.com/DieselDermanatorLlc?refsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Furl&_rdr If you need new injectors only get brand new Bosch or injectors based off brand new Bosch. I just did injectors in my 2005 Cummins. Remanufactured are not worth the risk IMO. Your truck would be great with a set of BMS+50 or +100 injectors depending on your turbo choice. I bought mine from www.engineered-diesel.com They were great and had the best pricing I could find from a reliable shop. Harley -
I have contemplated buying some for my 257 Weatherby just to get the cases but can't bring myself to pay even that much for ammo or cases. You can find brass for 300 Weatherby much cheaper because other companies make it. If you don't reload then these are a great round for practice and normal hunting. There are more options from other manufacturers though for 300 that might be similar price for better projectiles. I couldn't honestly tell you. Both my 300 & 257 Weatherby's have never shot a factory round or even a piece of factory Weatherby brass. I have a bunch of factory Remington brass for the 300 and I make the 257 brass from Remington 7mm mag cases. If you don't reload owning a Weatherby is a great reason to start. $3-4 a shot for factory ammo is crazy expensive. You can load basically the same thing for $0.80-$1.50 a round typically depending on calibler and bullet selection.

My wife and I both have a Keltec P32. She has arthritis in her wrist so the P3AT Keltec was to much for her wrist. A good buddy has the LCP and likes it too. I would love the SIG 938 in 9mm though, but the price is more than I can afford right now.

Practice Shoot at Phoenix Rod and Gun Club 9-27

I am sorry I missed it. I showed up and watched the last guys go. It looked fun. We stayed and shot some at the main range and then at 200. It really dumped after you guys left. The little gully at the gate was was flowing hard. I hope to catch the next one. Harley -
This guy just rebuilt the top end of my buddies 6.0l. He is very happy with the work and the price seemed very fair. https://m.facebook.com/DieselDermanatorLlc?refsrc=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Furl&_rdr Or Pro Diesel is good too. Harley

I'm out. The babysitter cancelled so I have to take the dogs to the vet while my wife stays with our son. I am going to make it out to the range later in the day tomorrow for some practice after I am done with the vet visit. -

Is this still going to happen with the fact that it is supposed to rain tonight and tomorrow? -
This guy just rebuilt the top end of my buddies 6.0l power stroke. My buddy is very happy with the work and the price quote I saw seemed very reasonable. He had a cracked head, bad egr, etc. http://www.bbb.org/phoenix/business-reviews/auto-repair-and-service-diesel/diesel-dermanator-llc-in-glendale-az-1000029775/ I also know pro diesel does good work as well.

Weatherby 257 magnum 80 grain Barnes TTSX for coues?
Hoss50 replied to dpr64's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I make all my 257 Weatherby cases from 7mm Rem Mag or .264 Win Mag cases. You have to fire form the first load but it is much cheaper to make the brass then pay for Weatherby or anyone else. You don't have quite the case capacity but have not had any issues doing it and the cases are a little short but they work fine. I am getting about 5-8 loadings per case before the primer pockets get loose. I have shot both 100gr & 115gr and they both shoot well. My rifle seems to like the 115-117gr the best so I stick with those. I have only been able to try ranges out to about 500 yards but they fly well to that range and I would eventually like to try farther when I can. As far as presses I use an RCBS Rock Chucker and it has been great. It is not fast but if you do good batches it is productive and saves tons of money over factory. I have never fired a factory round through either of my Weatherby caliber rifles. I just with brass for the 257 was as easy and cheap to find as the 300 is/was. -
We went out on Saturday of the last weekend of season. It was markedly slower then the previous weekend. We limited out the previous weekend but last weekend we could only muster 18 birds between 3 of us. They were all small out that way this season and also last season. Hopefully next year they will be a little more mature.

Weatherby 257 magnum 80 grain Barnes TTSX for coues?
Hoss50 replied to dpr64's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I will be shooting the 115gr Ballistic Tips or 117gr Hornady BTSP. My rifle really seems to like the hornady but shoots the ballistic tips well too. I shoot 257 weatherby but they aren't maxed out. They are about half way between a 25-06 & 257 weatherby maxed out. -
The only other thing I can say about the hunt you are on is I would be looking to go pretty deep in the hills. They will have been hunted for over a month pretty much non-stop so they will be really skidish and hiding pretty hard. This year I am going to try and get a lot deeper and farther away from camp then I did last year. I am actually thinking about taking a long day hike that will require me and a buddy to be picked up by other hunters in our group miles from camp. Last years tactics didn't work so it is time to try something new. Harley

We hunted a November hunt there last year. It was pretty rough for buck sightings and the success data showed that. The hunt I was on last year had a 10% success. We are drawn down there again this year but in late October so I hope it will be better this time. The weather was great last year but I have been snowed on in 29 in the past on a later hunt. It was a nasty storm that didn't melt off and got worse. We got lucky and got out before it got too bad but it was 4-6" deep as we made our way out. We saw does, a bear, and a bunch of turkey there last year but nothing with horns. Good luck.

Balljoints and steering parts are a known issue on these trucks. The trackbar bushings are pretty easy to replace especially if you have a blow torch and are only $20. That fixed about 90% of my steering wander & issues. I am going to do the steering box brace as well though. As for buying a Ford, no thanks. I did just have to do $3000 worth of injectors in my Dodge but my buddy just did $5000 worth of work to replace the top half of his 6.0L Ford. I'll take a Dodge Cummins with a stick shift trans over any other diesel any day.
