It is becoming more available but it is still very limited. I have picked up abut 1500 rounds over the last few months for about $30 a brick. The hoarders are just making life harder. Harley

Randalls definitely had 4350 today when I stopped in.

I know you already made your choice and I think you made a great one. I love my .257 Weatherby but brass and powder add up for it. If you can get similar ballistics from the 25-06AI that is an awesome choice. Lets see some pics once you have it back!

300 Win Mag rounds. What would you use.
Hoss50 replied to murfys69law's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
#1 or #4 of the choices you have. I like Nosler Partitions, especially on heavy things like bull elk, but the placement of the shot is more important then the round though. I don't think I would use the #3 BT on an elk. Just personal opinion on that. I like ballistic tips but on smaller, thinner game. -
I want to reload, I need advice....
Hoss50 replied to ctracingraptor's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Get a rockchucker and learn to reload. Once you do that then get a progressive for the pistol calibers and 223. I only reload for a couple pistol calibers because I still find it isn't worth my time to load things like 9mm on a single stage rock chucker. I load .38 super, .45LC, 44 Mag for pistols and a lot of rifle calibers on my rock chucker and do save money. You won't "save" money right off the bat because of the investment in machines and materials but if you shoot some odd ball calibers you can save money quick on those. I shoot .257 Weatherby and the cheapest ammo for that is $37/box, and the good stuff is $80/box. Depending on the bullet I use I can load 257 for $0.50 a round for target practice loads. I can shoot Berger VLD's in my Weatherby for $1.00 each basically vs. $4.00 each if you paid for them loaded. $3.00 a shot adds up to savings quickly. Obviously those prices don't account for "labor" but in my case it still would be much cheaper to reload. If you don't shoot the fringe cartridges you won't save quite as much as quick but what you will gain is knowledge and confidence in yourself and your loading ability. I am not a master reloader by any means but I taught myself to reload when I was 12 by reading reloading manuals in my dad's workshop. I have learned a lot more along the way through reading on places like this and trial and error. He got the equipment 2nd hand from a buddy and I learned how to load it for him. He invested the dollars on the equipment and invested the time to learn. I find reloading to be a relaxing event that I can use to get my mind off things like work and such. You won't save as much money as you could in the past as someone else mentioned, because the costs of primers and powder have gone up a lot. The availability of the items has gone way down too so you have to spend more time trying to find what you need to reload. That is the downside. The upside is it is much easier to swallow a $30/lb powder bill, $40/bx bullet bill, $4/bx primer bill that will load you 100+ rifle rounds then to go buy 100+ rifle rounds, especially if they are good rounds. You will learn to have the extra $50 in your wallet though for when you see that box of bullets or pound of powder that you have been looking for. You see it, you buy it. If you don't you will probably regret it later. -
I have just started working with Berger 115gr VLD's in my 257 Weatherby with very promising results so far. One of my first test groups was at or under 1 MOA @ 100yrds and I just added a new Timney trigger so I hope between the trigger and dialing in a load I can get .75 MOA or less from a basically stock rifle except for a trigger. I am probably going to start working with the 168gr Berger's in my buddies 30-06 also for our elk hunt this year. We have cow tags in 7E.

I have decided that my back up rifle will probably be a ruger 7mm rem. Mag. I am planning on working up a 160 gr Nosler partition load and possibly a 168 gr berger VLD load. Depending on how the load development goes I may make this my primary rifle, but I really want to get a notch in my 257 weatherbys belt, and I shoot that rifle pretty well. Harley

I am pretty sure the managers name was Bill. The dude and his kids were crazy motocross guys. If he is still there they will build a good trans.

Adult small or kids small?

I am pretty sure I saw some h4350 yesterday at bruno or randalls. I stopped by both while I was out and about. In case your addiction needs more powder....

State to state on bell and cave creek built the best 700r4/4l60e I ever ran. I have been through 6 and his was the only 1 to last and he backed up his Warranty. He rebuilt my transmission at my 1 year check up because he saw something he didn't like in the pan. There was no sign the Trans was going bad, it was a 1 year scheduled maintenance to keep the 2 year warranty. My truck was a daily driver and a weekend off road truck that I used hard.

Air Conditioning Season is coming quickly. Don't get taken advantage of. I have a great contractor that does a lot of west and central Phoenix Metro work. I can get recommendations for a good east side guy too if needed. The A/C business is full of crooked installers and service people. Don't take advantage of. Contact me if you need a recommendation. I work for an A/C wholesaler so I deal with these dudes all day, every day. Most of them I wouldn't trust for anything. I can give you names of quality residential and commercial contractors. This is my rule. If you have seen there TV add, seen there billboard, or heard there add on the radio. DON'T CALL THEM!!! You will get taken for a ride at the expense of your pocket book. Harley

Big Heng for more traditional Chinese, and Zang's Asian Bistro in downtown Glendale for higher end stuff. I lived 2 miles from Big Heng for years and drove by it all the time. It doesn't look like anything special but the food is dang good. Zang's just reopened in downtown Glendale and is even better then it was before. I live a mile from Big Heng and if we get Chinese, that is about the only place I will go for good quick Chinese.

Clean vs. Dirty vs. Cold bore
Hoss50 replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
My 257 seems to start loosing it after about 40-50 rounds down the tube. It seems to like about 10-30 rounds the best. I generally just punch the bore with a tight patch with some CLP on it before I put the rifle in the safe. I don't put a bore brush down the barrel very often. Only when the groups are getting way rough or it is going to sit for a long time. I used to be more diligent about full cleanings every time but this 257 weatherby does not seem to like it. I had never really shot 1 specific rifle often enough to notice this trend until now though either. My dad had lots of things to choose from so I often went from one gun to another for different hunts. I now pretty much exclusively carry my weatherby for most all varmint and big game hunting so I have learned my rifle much better then the guns I have used on past hunts. I don't kill much but practicing with the same rifle all the time and dialing in loads has really helped my consistency and helped me notice the cleaning trend. -
The only elk I have shot was in unit 8 and it was a 40 yard shot. The parts of unit 8 I hunted you would be hard pressed to take a shot past 300.
-
I only saw one bull on my 2 cow hunts In 19a back in the day. It was a good size 4x4 bull broadside at 50 yards. Pm me if you want directions to where I saw him.
-
I hunted unit 8 for late rifle cow a few times many years ago. The first time was pretty successful and we heard and saw a decent amount of success stories. 2 years later we could not find an elk to save our lives and nobody we talked to had seen anything first hand. You heard of a guy who knew someone who's 3rd cousin saw something but that was it. This was 15 years ago though. Scout a lot and get deep. There are tons more guys running around on quads and SxS then there were then. They will be hard to find.

I spent a winter in North Dakota work outside, and I lived in Colorado for 5 years working construction. I will survive.

If I didn't still have 5 lbs of my last 8 pounder I would be all over this.

Any info for late rifle cow In 7E?

25-06 ???? Best all around bullet
Hoss50 replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I am hoping to be using the 115gr Berger VLDS on a cow elk this December. -
I saw 4 yotes running a drainage near my son's school near 94th Ave and tbird. I have also seen them near 83rd and olive. I wish one would stop into my hood and take care of the stray cats my neighbors feed.
