623 236 7733 - # for Special Draw - Draw results issues? CONFIRMED!
Hoss50 replied to n2horns's topic in The Campfire
I wonder if I am having a problem in the system too. I was not drawn for javelin according to my cc charges but when we entered the draw 1 hunter had to buy a license. I was never able to print the license because of an error or reprint the license through the site. I emailed g&f with no reply, and was apparently not drawn. -
30-06 Barnes Bullets Seating Depth
Hoss50 replied to Wetfinn's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have not shot barnes but like mentioned. Try different powders and depths and if that doesn't work try a different weight. If it is still no good try a different bullet. My rifle shot ok with nosler ballistic tips but I switched to berger bullets and it liked them much better. I then tried different powder and the gun loves Bergers and h1000 powder. It will shoot them under MOA and sometimes under .5 MOA. The best the nosler did was about between 1-1.5 MOA. you just have to keep experimenting and don't be afraid to try different bullets. Reloading is science. Keep changing 1 variable at a time until you get the results you are after. Harley -
Good luck everyone. I am chomping at the bit right now for next Thursday so I can leave for my cow elk hunt.

Does anyone use a camo poncho or similar while hunting to break up your outline and lines? Some of the areas I have scouted for my elk hunt won't provide a ton of good cover so I have been thinking about making a camo poncho of sorts to help break up my outline as I hunt. I have a couple sections of camo burlap that I have been thinking about using to do this with to make a sudo gillie suit/break up poncho. I dont own any high end cool guy camo and don't plan to soon. Any thoughts. Thanks Harley

Dick's and Cabela's are both supposed to have them on sale super cheap for Black Friday. Might be worth a shot. I have really thought about one in 243 for my son, but I am not sure he needs a deer rifle for his 4th birthday. I also can't justify buying another gun and needing another scope when I have more than 1 rifle that needs a scope upgrade already as well as a couple that need a muzzle break. I could use the money I would spend on the axis to start slimming the list of rifles that need upgrades. Harley

Keep calm and always remember, aim small miss small.

I had this issue with my 257 weatherby. I was loading 7mm mag brass so there is no way the case is to long. The bullet was seated to far out and jammed the lands. I have also had this problem with 3006 and that was from the cases being to long. Harley

This one wouldnt be for rain. It will be made of a loose woven camo burlap and used while sitting to brake up my outline. I keep an emergency poncho in the day pack as well.

There are good bulls in there. We had a cow hunt in there about 15 years ago and ran across a BIG 4x4 bull in there.

Whatever you do don't use Naumann Hobbs. If jason I recommended before will do it use him. He is a great guy.

Call this guy. He does all kinds of mechanic work. Jason Spiess 602-284-0471 Tell him Harley sent you.

I called G&F this morning and reported it. The dispatcher said they would give the info to the field guys. I will probably check the same tank in a couple weeks when I go scout again and will see if they actually did anything. I would have tried to get it myself if it was closer to shore, but I only had a 30' tow strap with me which would have put my truck pretty close to the water to try and get it up and out without burying it in the soft stuff near the bank. It would have been a cold dip in the pond to get it out too. Only 1 antler was visible and it would have been tough roping it with my tow strap. Harley

Today in 7e my buddy and I found a dead bull elk in the middle of a cattle tank. He appears to have an exit wouND on the side you can see. Who should I contact about this or will any .gov or someone do anything about it other then continue to let it rot and pollute the tank? PS if you lost a nice 4x4 or so bull in 7e I may have found him. Harley

My hunting buddy might want this.

If I had hip waders and a winch I would have done it myself, but I wasn't going waist deep in 33* water since I don't have any waders.

115gr Berger hunting VLDs over 67.0gr h1000. For me it is a proven sub MOA load in my vanguard. I use fire formed 7mm Rem mag brass in my rifle so my case capacity is slightly less then factory 257 brass. The next best load is 117gr hornady btsp bullets over imr 4831. I would have to go look at the powder gr on that one though. It is probably about an MOA or slightly less than MOA load in my rifle. I have a series 1 vanguard and I didn't like the trigger creep even after adjustment so I out in a timney and it is alot nicer.

Nice package. heck of a deal for a rifle that will shoot like that.great caliber too.

I have both 300's in Peoria if you need a caseing for each. Slug the chamber would be the best bet.

Hodgdon and IMR Smokeless Powder
Hoss50 replied to shoottoshoot's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Let us know what the 1 pounders are. I doubt you will have much trouble selling those items on here. Compare pricing to get a fair market price with powdervalley and other internet sites. -
Sportsman's Warehouse over both of them. Sucks though because Bass Pro is worse then cabelas. Worse pricing worse products. Scheils or whatever up north is better then both of them for sure. The had 1 in ND when I spent some time up there.

When I was a younger, probably about 8, my dad's group bagged a mule deer in 20a. When they spotted him he was at the top of a big hill and when they shot he ran off, then came back around, and around, and around until someone finally put him down. He had a very large wart over 1 eye that basically blinded him in that direction and when he ran while spooked he kept running in circles. Probably not the case here but still something that I found interesting and have seen with my own eyes.

Get away from the main areas and get away from roads. 15 years ago was the last time I hunted that area before side x sides became popular and the roads were still covered with road hunters. I can only imagine how bad it is now. Hike, hike, hike.

I could be as simple as a loose nut at an outlet that shorted. If that is the case you might only need to trim the wires up and reinstall a new wire nut. A bad outlet or bad gfi could be the problem too. A multimeter should help you narrow it down pretty easy. Find the last outlet with power and Check the wire nuts. Then check for power leaving g that box. If you have power leaving check the next outlet and check the wire nuts there and try and figure out which wire is not carrying power to that box.
-
They are daisy chained together most likely. The bad connection is likely in the last box with power or the first 1 without power. Try and locate the direction the power is running through the room and start taking the outlets apart. Likely a wire connection in the daisy chain fried.
