Does anyone have some loads they like for this combo? I have access to several good magnum powders. H1000, retumbo, rl22, imr7828, imr4831. I prefer to use h1000 though as I have the most of that. It will be for load development in a Ruger M77 mark 1 tang safety. Thanks Harley

Has anyone ever swapped there red pad ruger m77 mark 1 to a prefix recoil pap? I can't find a straight answer on anyone that's makes a direct replacement recoil pad. Thanks Harley

How do you do the grind to fit? Belt sander? My problem is I don't own any wood working tools like sanders. I own tons of metal tools, nothing for wood. -
7mm Rem. Mag & 168gr Berger HVLD loads?
Hoss50 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I Emailed berger today for load data but I will start with lance's load and some h1000 loads and see how it goes. Thank you. -
It isn't forgotten. The teachers are hamstrung by all the tests. They have to teach there kids to pass tests not be able to actually teach them. The tests are all that matter. If the teachers kids don't do well on the tests it is a poor reflection on them and can lead to poor reviews and even losing your job over. Poor parenting is also part of the issue. She gets kids that don't know anything and have not been taught anything. They have been put in front of a TV or given an iPad all the time so the parent doesn't have to watch the kid or actually parent them. My wife teacher and I see and hear it every day. The schools are in the toilet, but I wouldn't blame the teachers. Blame the people who have no idea how to teach that make the laws and programs the teachers are forced to teach.

The safe store on Indian school. Definitely worth a look. My dad bought his there and it has been great. Service was very good.

If anyone needs some I saw some in stock on the far wesside. CAL Ranch off pebble creek and I-10 had some in stock. Some other hornady bullets too, but no other ELD's.

If anyone is looking for some decent glass at good prices check out CAL Ranch. They are closing out there Redfield and Leupold optics and range finders. I just picked up a 4x12x40 Revolution Accurange for $200. They had the 3x9x40 Accurange for $170 still. Range Finders were $140. Harley

Elk Rifle/Medium Range Hunting Rifle?
Hoss50 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks for the advice guys. I just picked up a Redfield Revolution 4x12x40 to get something shootable on top of that 7mm Rem Mag and work on a load. If it shows good promise I will probably upgrade the glass on it again and move this scope over to replace one of the other cheapies on other rifles. I am going to start working a load soon for this rifle in the 160-168gr range and hopefully get some good results. I will run over to Sportsmans Warehouse or Bruno's next weekend and pick up some Bergers to try in it too along with some of the Speer BTSP's I already have. I want to work on getting that 300 weatherby better setup but I will have to muzzle break it right off the bat along with a scope to even get it shootable. I used to enjoy/not care about recoil but that was when I was 17 and stupid. I don't enjoy it anymore. Harley -
Does anyone have a really good elk Jerky recipe they would be willing to share. I have a couple bags of jerky cut from last year's elk that I want to make soon. I don't really want to mess it up though, elk doesn't grow on trees. Thanks Harley

It is going to be hot soon. Don't get taken for a ride by a bad air conditioning repair company. I am a wholesaler and I can recommend a good company if you need service. I have no affiliations with the companies and receive nothing from them. I just don't want to see hard working people get taken advantage of. 98% of the contractors out there will do you no favors and probably take advantage. Be one of the 2%.

Elk Rifle/Medium Range Hunting Rifle?
Hoss50 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I love my 257, and it is my go to rifle. It shoots 115gr bergers lights out over some H1000. Sub-moa at 500 yards even. I need something with more oomph though too, and I need to start working up better equipment for my boys when they are ready. I have 2 small boys that will need rifles soon enough. -
Elk Rifle/Medium Range Hunting Rifle?
Hoss50 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Dad's choice in glass was whatever was cheaper. Simmons or Bushnell, sometimes Tasco and not the good ones. We didn't have alot of money back then but he wasn't all that interested in saving for better glass either. He didn't know any better though either. He was not brought up hunting and all his buddies shot cheap glass too, so he never really understood what the difference was. I am going to try and pick up some decent glass, and see how both shoot I guess. I am leaning towards the 7mm but I have not made up my mind yet. That 300 weatherby is just a brute though so I may have to muzzle brake it before I shoot it more. Harley -
Elk Rifle/Medium Range Hunting Rifle?
Hoss50 replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I am. The 257 will never leave. I love that gun. I just want to work with another rifle to hunt larger game at farther ranges if possible. The 257 did good last year at about 280yrds on my elk but I wouldnt feel comfortable taking a much longer shot on an elk with it. -
Elk Rifle/Medium Range Hunting Rifle?

A new rifle won't fly with the wife. Upgrading one might though. A 7/08 would t do anything my 257 weatherby or 6.5x55 wouldn't though. I like the caliber but I am looking for some thing with more oomph in the 300-600 yard area which is why I am trying to decide on which I should upgrade. 7mm Rem mag or 300 weatherby mag. Thanks though Harley -
Let me know if this doesn't sell. I am interested.

I got drawn for a cow elk tag for the 2nd year in a row. I am stoked and really want to get my hunting buddy on his first elk. We got close last year but I had the better shot so I took it. It was my first solo big game animal which was awesome, but now he needs to know that rush. Harley

Nice. Scout hard and you will do well. 19a is a cool unit for elk.

Building My Reloading Bench

Yep, more support at the press. 3/4" plywood won't last long. -
I bought mine off amazon directly from Kodiak Canvas. I think with Prime I got free shipping too if I remember right. The one thing I will say is if you are going to use the tent in warmer weather and want to take a nap or shelter in the tent during the daytime get the model with the bid windows on the sides. I have the model with just the door vents and top corner vents and when we tried to nap in the tent during the day it was too hot, even with a good breeze. If the breeze could have come in through the big windows it would have been fine. Harley

Amazon. Go to frys and buy amazon gift cards to get fuel points, then use gift cards on amaZon and save on fuel at the same time.

22-250 or .243 for yotes and mulies
Hoss50 replied to AR15RDY's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
243 of the 2 choices given. 257 Roberts and 6.5x55 are both old calibers that are often overlooked but are great choices for a light kick caliber that will still get the job done. -
It's my son's first birthday today and he is decked out in green! I hope he likes corned beef & cabbage because that's about the only birthday meal he will get from us.
