Turkey Hunting and Calling Seminar 4/9 6PM at Mesa Sportsman's
kazpilot25 replied to Little Creek Calls's topic in Turkeys!
Sounds awesome. I'm really hoping the Cabela's seminar materializes for us West valley people. -
I've always wondered how you go about hunting in there. Do you have to check in at the main gate and let them know you'll be hunting?
-
They're fast! Usually a week or so for me.
-
I've seen way too many of these types of stories lately. Makes me not feel so bad that I haven't gotten a trophy worth mounting yet. ha.

I'm thinking about selling my Bushnell Chuck Adams rangefinder and upgrading to a better longer range range finder. I was eyeballing the new Bushnell DX Scout. Has great reviews and ranges out to 1300 yards. Anybody have some recommendations? I'm not looking to spend Swarovski type money. Maybe up to $400.

Great find. I love mine!
-
Anybody seen anything lately? I'm curious how it's progressing.

So I'm interested in taking the guide test for a guide license (just because it sounds fun and challenging), but have no idea what is on the test. I can't seem to find any study materials or anything. Anybody on here take the test that can point me in the right direction?
-
Yep, that's pretty much what I had figured. I'm just looking to be as knowledgable as possible.
-
A couple. I counted a total of 8 deer in the almost 4 months it was out there. All does. Not optimal. I had set up this spot because I had previously seen some monster bucks in there, but apparently it's just an elk paradise.
-
The shed was from this spring. I found it out there when I was setting up the cam, it was pretty brown. I just left it by the camera site because I had a lot of hiking left to do and didn't want to haul it around with me.
-
That was my first thought when I saw them on there. They were the only people that showed up on the cam, and they didn't even look up at it. I had it way back, 1.5 miles off the nearest road and up pretty high in a tree.
-
Funny you ask. A rutting bull decided to take out his aggression on the shed, then some hikers decided to pick it up. I left it there figuring I'd pick it up when I came back, that didn't work out apparently.

Hey Everyone. I recently started a new business (Rutnut Outdoors) and received my FFL. I'm currently selling guns, bows, and optics as special order and doing transfers for online purchases. I plan on building some customized long range Remington 700's and AR platform hunting rifles in the future. Please take a minute to like my Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/rutnutoutdoors. I'm hoping to become a sponsor of the site in the near future, but need to get some extra funds together before that can happen. If this is considered spam, I'm sorry.

White-tailed Deer Overview: White-tail deer numbers in unit 23 are static to improving. The long-term drought we have been experiencing over the past several years has had an effect on them but they seem to thrive in unit 23 regardless. How well the fawns survive due to the dry spring and summer rains is a good indication of the condition of the total populations the following year. Look forward to better populations on years with increased rainfall. White-tailed deer can be found in all habitats from the semi-desert grassland areas up through through mixed-conifer forests. They are primarily found in a band of elevation from 3,500 feet to 6,000 feet. White-tailed deer prefer areas that do not experience heavy livestock densities. Required equipment for a successful hunt is a GOOD pair of binoculars and a tripod to mount them on and/or a spotting scope. There are areas in the unit where a good glasser can glass 20 to 30 deer from one vantage point. This can't be done unless you have the proper equipment. Areas: Popular areas holding high densities of white-tailed deer are between Cherry Creek and Tonto Creek at an elevation between 3,500 to 6,000 feet. All major drainages that run off of the Sierra Ancha Mountains hold white-tailed deer. For an undisturbed hunt, packing into one of the wilderness areas is a good plan. These are Salome, Hells Gate and Sierra Ancha. The north half of the unit also produces good hunt opportunities for white-tailed deer. Tips: Pre-season scouting is very important. Locate an area away from roads and glass the area to locate deer. Use a Tonto National Forest map to help you locate areas in which to search. White-tailed deer are very localized and can be found in the same canyon or hillside several times. The December hunt is a rut hunt and the bucks are usually actively seeking out does. Continue to glass with an honest effort and you should be able to locate a mature buck.

Hunter shoots at dead deer on cart, hits other man
kazpilot25 replied to down2hunt's topic in The Campfire
I always wonder the same thing. Don't you look and get a really good idea about your target before shooting? It boggles my mind that some people will just see movement and fire, not knowing what they're even shooting at. -
Got hit for a turkey tag. Looks like I'll be up in 6a again this year.
-
Looks like I got another 6A turkey tag. Sweet.

I'm wondering if anyone has a recipe or has ever cooked up venison testicles. I thought of the idea based on rocky mountain oysters. Same idea, different animal. So has anyone here tried to cook up some southern Arizona oysters? I'm thinking about trying it this coming weekend. I'm helping a friend on his first deer hunt and I think it might be a good tradition to start… Harvest a buck, eat the balls.

Very cool.
-
Unfortunately I won't be leaving until around 5:30. Can't wait to get out there and spend countless hours behind the Swaros.
-
I haven't had any problems with the Viper 6.5-20x50, Diamondback Binos, Viper HD Binos, or Kaibab Binos. They seem to be good quality products, but not comparable to Swaro like some may say.
-
We're heading down Thursday after work to setup camp for the weekend. Anyone else heading down? Where you all camping?
-
Depends on your provider. Verizon typically does. Unfortunately I'm on AT&T. I've always seen a couple trailers down in the wash just past the campground. You talking about around there? Yep. Past the lake and Just past the concreted wash on the left. Gotten there late thurs night before and able to get a decent spot. Exactly where I was planning on going. Maybe I'll see some of you in there.
