Most New Mexicans consider the area you are in more Texas than NM - haha. The advantage is I think there are some Eastern Whitetail opportunities near you and also Feral Hogs near the Pecos river. Get out there and shoot away! Look up videos by Jason Amaro who is on here. He is a NM guy who posts some good videos

I had a question on the same topic. I was glassing for some friends on opening weekend. They had tags, I didn't. I was in a rush out the door and didn't bother bringing sidearm. I ventured off on my own and ran into quite a few of these fresh and wish I would have. Would I have gotten any grief for having a firearm and no tag?

After reading this post I was able to make out tracks while out Friday. Here they are in order 1) Coyote 2) Bobcat 3) Big furry fresh bobcat right? The last one was way bigger than my hand. I should have put up a reference. The scat around the area was really fresh too. I was watching my back after that.

Was at it all day in 24a and nothing but does, hunters and water up in the higher elevations. Man was it HOT! Glad it will be cooling down tomorrow.

Do you know if the newer tacoma shocks/struts fit your truck? There are a bunch of new take-offs on Craigslist for cheap.

I've had it save me a couple times. First time I was glassing two does and I saw movement on the top of the hill. It was a guy smoking a cigar and his son with a rifle. The deer were right between us and I knew they were going to spook them. Sure enough deer take off and this kid has his rifle pointed right at me. He then continues to look my direction with his scope. I pull out my blaze zest and start waiving it till the kid sees me in his scope. He tells Dad and they take off back over hill. I was raging pissed! Second time I used it to help my buddy while he was on a stock. He almost walked right into the deer until I broke out my blaze and he spotted it. By my location he knew he was in the wrong spot, dropped to prone and got off a shot. (Missed) I always carry my blaze "in case sh*t"

Binos sold !

I decided to start offloading some of my hunting gear. These are my back-up binos that I have never used. They were replaced by Alpen last year when I sent my old pair back for repair. Maybe someone could use them for the upcoming hunts. These make a great pair for you clumsy guys or for kids. The Alpen No-Fault warranty is great. +1 on the headlamp. Deer are used to critters moving around at night. Whatever you do just don't be talking up a storm on the hike in. Pick a spot on your scouting trip and make sure you know your way in. Nothing worse than come sunup and you find yourself 50-100yds from where you wanted to be.
