kninebirddog replied to NoDinks's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Wow .....a non sportive hunter....People like you are the very reason PETA and H$U$ get a foot hold and chip away at our hunting as stated before they are not selective at what hunting they want ALL HUNTING and for that matter ALL PET OWNERSHIP abolished and your elitist attitude is the very red carpet they love to work on as you are a wedge from with in ...... -

I see no difference in us chase a bird and having our dogs point it or a person who runs their dogs for other game. -

I hunt with my Bird dogs I devote a lot of time to their breeding and training and trialing and what ever I elect to do with them adding another breed would be selfish at best as I do not have the resources nor the time to devote to it to do it properly so I should be denied the fun of watching good dog work because I would need to hire someone that has worked hard to train their dog to hunt bears Wow Lets face it there is FAR more into just getting a dog to go chase the right quarry then you will ever have a concept of ...there is getting a dog that has been bred for it ..just because a pup has papers saying it is a certain breed doesn't mean it was bred properly to have the right instincts trust me on that I see some bird dogs brought in for training that make mediocre hunting dogs at best then the training Way more into it and then you go hunt once and that Wow what is that poor dog supposed after that one hunt you expect it to sit on the couch not to be used again because heaven forbid it get hired out for someone else to enoy a bear hunt becxause that person should raise and get their own dog to do their own hunt... -

I am looking forward to the day I can listen and watch some dogs work on Bear and Cat...Nothing like good dog work...it is more fun then the kill itself I upland hunt more for watching the dog then the hunt...same for why I guide on the preserve...I get to watch my dog run and do what it loves to do...doesn't get any better then that... Every one enjoys things differently. Doesn't make HOW someone else enjoys to spend their time any worse then what you do Over in texas we can hunt out of a truck for varmints or exotics it is perfectly LEGAL and you know what it is a blast hunting over bait ...just because you put something out there doesn't mean the monster will come in much less if you have the steadiness to shoot it if it does...Isn't about shooting the first thing that comes in it is what You make of it all this petty bickering of who is better on what they do only serves as an open door for the Antis to shove a wedge in to hunting period and if we don't all pull out heads out of our back ends we will all loose HSUS PETA I have been saying this for years we need band to stop them and stop their legislation and lobbying -

Quality all purpose knife for field dressing?
kninebirddog replied to apache12's topic in Elk Hunting
I have the Havalon piranta knife and do everything with it from skinning quartering as I separate at the joints I do not like to saw bones. Over in texasI can cape and quarter two deer per blade...Just keep the fat wiped down when I need a sharp blade I just pop off the old one and replace with a new one as they use number 60 scalpel blades..on elk I used one for caping and another for quartering was quite a bit of fat which built up to fast -
I like the marinaded wild game medallions he does..I could eat those all day long...

we take dogs all the time..we stake them out so that they are not running around bugging people ... and when we are hunting they are in the trailer or crates in the trailer..and as long as their are not people standing out side of our trailer talking they are quiet...we had one occasion where someone was complaining about how noisy our dogs were come to find out this old bat was walking her yapping pile of fur around and would literally stand out side our trailer door antagonizing our dogs ...Well Duh my dogs better bark when some dumb____ is snooping around our property when we are gone

Looking for some advice on rangefinders
kninebirddog replied to az41mag's topic in Optics and tripods
I really like my Archers Choice Max...reticle auto changes from red to black depending on what you are scanning and when it also is easy to use and will auto range angles and switching modes is also easy doesn't require a manual -
After some hiking around we found what looked like a spot for potential elk to work their way to a meadows edge. So we sit and after a while I could have swore I heard some talking but not much after that some coyotes kicked in with a howling and yipping fit after it got quiet Bob decided to let out with a young bull call. With n a minute here comes a newer small slate blue chevy truck rambling across the meadows edge and parks less then 50 yds from us. They couldn't see us but the moron of a passenger jumps out of the truck and proceeds to squeal out some horrible sound. Not sure what it was supposed to be a cow a young bull or Roseanne barr. So with that nice hike to what was supposed to be away from any legal driving traffic. We slipped back up the hill and gave a few calls as we went up. These wanna bes chased us as far as they could up the hill before we ran them into a wall of downed trees So to you two IDIOTS.... I hope the next person that you ruin their hunt confronts you and let's you have it where the sun don't shine
-
t was kinda funny as we were headed up the hill , Bob would bugle again to hear the door slam and the one idiot telling hs driver buddy..how the elk is headed up the hill ...WELL DAH idiot had it been a real bull you wouldn't have heard a thing as they don't stop to bugle when they are being chased....HERE'S YOUR SIGN
-
never could see the back end of the truck. But if they oblige us again I will keep my phone handy from now on so I can take pictures of their truck and what they are doing
-
Well At least you can put in for tags there on the base. Welcome to AZ

Any Ron Paul Supporters Out There?
kninebirddog replied to Curtis Reed's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I am very much for Ron Paul People need to wake up about Agenda 21, ICLEI and The UN and the threat that these organization are to what our founding fathers fought and died for Perry is pro agenda 21 Perry is nothing more then a gussied up pretty mouth piece of a puppet He is no better then the teleprompter puppet we have n charge now..Only thing that is saving him from getting impeached or or what ever is the buffoon of a gaffe he has as a VP I am as adamantly warning against Agenda 21, ICLEI and The UN as I was about warning people about 10 years ago about HSUS and the threat they were to our animals, sad to say most people are taking my warnng today about Agenda 21, ICLEI and The UN as they took with me back then about HSUS...Won't be until it really is really in their back yard telling you how to eat how you can live what you can do with your property and what you can't Taking your guns etc etc etc before they will get pissed off enough to take a stand and FYI by then it will be like shutting the gate after the horses got out. Ron Paul is out to stop that gate from opening America really need Ron Paul...I wish he was electable but unfortunately I don't think main stream America understands what is at stake nor do some even have a clue..they have the wool pulled over their eyes about thinking going Green means saving the world they think sustainability won't effect how they live..Going Green is a lie...Think about this ..those wonderful little going green light bulbs READ THE PACKAGE they are any but green...When they go out which has anyone gotten anything close to what is advertised on the package but wait even better That little Green Light has enough Mercury to only contaminate 1000 gallons of water and enough Mercury vapor that should one break you are to Air out your whole house and get a plastic bag as to not touch any of the inside powder of the light..Yes people Read that package see what you are potentally exposing yourself and your family to all in the name of green Sorry to get so side tracked but People need to wake up do vote for the party VOTE FOR WHO IS FOR AMERICA -

http://www.heartwormsociety.org/UrgentAlert-8-9-11.pdf The American Heartworm Society: Guidance for Heartworm Disease Management During the Adulticide Unavailability Background August 9, 2011: The American Heartworm Society became aware of a pending product unavailability of the only available heartworm adulticide product, IMMITICIDE®, for an undetermined duration. Because there are no other approved products available for killing adult heartworms, the American Heartworm Society Board and Scientific Committee has developed and approved the following management plan for heartworm positive dogs during this period of adulticide unavailability. While the unavailability persists, heartworm-positive dogs should be managed to achieve three primary goals: • Reduce potential pathology from the infection. • Maintain the health of the dog until it can be appropriately treated. • Prevent additional heartworm infection of the dog. These goals may be achieved by strict adherence to the following: • Limit the activity level of the dog to reduce pathology.1,2 • Carefully place the non-protected dog on heartworm prevention.3,4,5,6,7 • Administer doxycycline to reduce pathology and infective potential of heartworms.8 The Management Plan: Heartworm-Positive Dogs and Dogs Not Completing a Full Course of Adulticidal Therapy 1. Verify any positive antigen test by performing a second antigen test, sourced from a different manufacturer. If a dog is confirmed antigen positive or for dogs already initiated on, but not completed adulticidal therapy (due to product unavailability), a microfilariae test should be performed. In rare cases, the administration of heartworm preventives to microfilaremic dogs can result in shock-type reaction. For this reason professional observation is highly recommended. • If microfilariae are detected, the dog should be pretreated with corticosteroids with or without antihistamines9 and then administered a dose of heartworm preventive (macrocyclic lactone).10 o While all heartworm preventives affect microfilariae, the resulting immunologic reaction of the dog to the microfilariae can vary dramatically.3,4,5,6,7 Therefore dogs should be kept under clinical observation for at least 8 hours following the initial dose of heartworm preventive to allow rapid, appropriate medical treatment should a shock reaction occur. o Anti-inflammatory pretreatment: Dexamethasone at 0.25 mg/kg intravenously and diphenhydramine at 2.2 mg/kg intramuscularly, or 1 mg/kg of prednisolone orally 1 hour before and 6 hours after administration of the first dose of preventive.9 o Elimination of every single microfilaria is not the goal; the health, safety, and maintenance of the patient is the goal. o Microfilariae will likely persist following preventive dosing. o If the positive dog is already on prevention, continue regular monthly oral or topical dosing or twice yearly injections of preventives. • If the dog is negative for microfilariae, a heartworm preventive should be administered. 2. Dogs should then be maintained continuously on heartworm preventive to limit further infection of the dog until the adulticide product is again available. 3. Dogs should also receive doxycycline at 10 mg/kg BID for 4 weeks. This dosing should be repeated quarterly until adulticide is available. (Dose may be reduced to 5 mg/kg BID if tolerance issues exist.) • Doxycycline has been demonstrated to affect the viability of subsequent heartworm stages. • Microfilariae will still be able to infect mosquitoes, but the infective larvae from these mosquitoes will be less capable of infecting another dog. • The doxycycline protocol would be 1 month on, 2 months off, 1 month on, 2 months off, etc. • The combination of macrocyclic lactone and doxycycline is proven to be more effective than macrocyclic lactones alone. Research studies have demonstrated macrocyclic lactone/doxycycline combinations will: o Shorten the life span, but not eliminate the adult worm infection. o Lessen the pathology associated with worm death. o Disrupt heartworm transmission. 4. Restrict ALL activity of the dog! Limit ALL exercise! • The severity of heartworm disease is directly related to the activity level of the dog. • As physical activity increases, pathology associated with adult heartworms increases. 5. Any dogs that are symptomatic for heartworm infection should be treated medically to relieve signs of respiratory distress. Surgical options should be weighed for dogs exhibiting cardiovascular compromise. 6. When adulticide product is again available: • Adult heartworms will likely persist in the dogs managed under this protocol. • Nevertheless, dogs should be retested to revalidate the presence of an adult heartworm infection. • If positive, the dog should be appropriately treated for adult heartworms with the approved adulticidal product. REMEMBER THE GOALS: • Reduce potential pathology from the infection. • Maintain the health of the dog until it can be appropriately treated. • Prevent additional heartworm infection of the dog. For further background information considered in development of this management protocol, refer to the American Heartworm Society’s Current Canine Guidelines under the Veterinary Resources at www.heartwormsociety.org.

What kinda of bird are you using? Are you using live birds f not all your doing is teaching the pup to go in on the scent of a dead bird and that he can catch it Next is to figure out What kind of trials and or hunt tests do you want to train for. Put a check cord on the pup...Never play retrieve when you do not have control ..toss for a retrieve or two IF the pup is interested if kinda of slow ..DO NOT toss again always leave a puppy on a good note and wanting more..do not push to failure Yes very young pups good flying quail is optimal...but if not good flyers then do bird work on a check cord and help the pup to learn to stand still..no words just quietly bring the pup where they scent bird and when they turn into the scent then impede forward motion gently and try to get it where you have a little bit of slack in the line..enough where you still have instant control but not so much that the only thing that is preventing the pup from going forward is because they are pulling against the check cord Best thing is leave all experiences between dog and bird and the excitement of it all...Praise is more for humans so if you felt dog did a good job pat yourself on the back There are some seminars ..I host Rick Smith seminars he is the son of Delmar Smith some of the top known names n the Brittany world that hold some very impressive records in trials and have handled dog to Hall of Fame status...the basics for all bird dogs is the same ..how far you want to take it and polish the dog in training is up to you here is a link to some articles I have written http://www.kninebird...m/articles.html here is Ricks site the top part is his seminar schedule the bottom has articles that He has done http://www.huntsmith.com/
