This is essentially what I did: Taken from a different forum... And I've actually run longer cables to my mp3 player so that I can controll it from 200ft away. (all of those part numbers are the actual part from Radio Shack so jot them down and have the geeks at the register look them up and get them for you) Using your soldering iron, solder the stripped Radio Shack Power Horn Speaker wire (#4001440) to the stripped end of the 6' cable (#4202434). Now plug the soldered speaker wire into the EXT SPKR jack on the side of the Radio Shack Mini amp. With the remaining 6' cord (#4202420) attach the Mono plug to Stereo Jack Inline Adaptor (#9100774) to one end of the cable and plug this end into the other available jack on the speaker amp. With the other end of the 6' cable, plug it into your sound source (CD player, Tape player or Mp3 player) The speaker costs $19.99, Mini Amp is $14.99, cables cost about $2.49 a piece and I think the stereo jack inline adapter is $3. You'll need a 9v battery to run the Mini Amp. I've been skunked over Foxpro's, Flextones, Johnny Stewarts and some other calls I can't remember before- so what do you have to lose? Just build it and keep saving money until you can buy the best! It also gives me some sort of personal satisfaction to know I called in a predator with something I built in my garage, same feeling I get when I take one with the handloads I loaded.

Anyone want to camp together in 35A for December Hunt?
Scooter replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Let's just go ahead and base it off of the fact that all anybody on this site has is stories about "scary" encounters that were not life threatening at all. If you're scared to hunt down here- awesome... That's one less metro Barney to buy a leftover tag. I bet you come across more illegals and drug runners every day at your local Wal Mart than you ever will down here while hunting. -
Parker Canyon Lake unit 35a. Cell phone reception?
Scooter replied to Norteno's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Verizon is VERY spotty up around there, but if you move around you'll find service. AT&T you won't get very much. -
I use fresh droppings as I come across them. I don't know if Coues are that crazy about Midwestern does... They prefer the local girls.

If you can solder and/or splice speaker wire, Radio shack is your friend... Buy quality cables and download good mp3's. Buy a horn speaker, mini amp, and use a good mp3 player or smartphone to store sounds. Look, I ain't gonna lie- it's no foxpro and most free downloads are going to have distortion. Does it call in coyotes and foxes??? Yes, yes it does. It cost less than $40 in parts. Instead of a remote I bought two 100ft headphone cords so I can set the caller away from me and control it with my iPod touch and the iHunt calls app.

I have a back up... Tru Ball Bone Collector Beast. thanks though!

Mossy Oak Brush does a good job down here. As for materials- it's a trade off. Anything tougher than the thorns and stickers is noisy, and everything super quiet will eventually get you torn up by them. I use the russell APX L1 and L2 stuff, from base layers to outer. If I'm hunting a real brushy and thorny spot I trade the pants for a dark brown or tan pair of Columbia or LL Bean upland hunting pants. Down here I worry less about brush and thorns and more about having to sit, kneel, or lay on jagged rocks.

Well, if nobody responded they haven't used it... I sent my release to Cobra Manufacturing Inc yesterday after very responsive customer service and parts department people assured me by phone that they would take care of it as soon as I got the broken release back to them. The parts guy (Kevin) actually knew exactly where the trigger broke off (before I could tell him) and said they no longer build the triggers like the one I had. I will update further as the process continues.

Anyone want to camp together in 35A for December Hunt?
Scooter replied to Big Browns's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
More than welcome to contact me this weekend bud. I'll be out mornings with a buddy trying to fill his tag that ends on the 8th... It's real windy down here today and might rain tonight. I have the on-post hunt for the same dates as your hunt so if you need anything during the hunt let me know, not far away. -

Big Browns, when are you coming down? -
how's the arrow flight at 30yds? any wobble or curling?
-
You really want to tune broadheads at 30yds. I have found that if you can get one to fly perfect at 30, the arrow is stable enough for the longer ranges without having to tune much else. The only reason I personally shoot a few at 40-60 is to see if I'm getting any excessive drop in elevation due to resistance. Broadhead tuning is where things can get expensive. It is a necessary evil though- you may have had your mind set on what broadheads to choose... but your bow and/or arrows may not "like" the head. Especially with 2" Blazer or equivalent vanes. I haven't had a whole lot of trouble when using 3"-4" feathers and 4" vanes set on a 3 degree helical- but you have to give up a little speed and noise.
-
Oh my gosh... I forgot to include broadhead tuning. Gotta shoot your broadheads and figure out whether to move your pins or tune your rest.

First Coues with 50 cal muzzleloader
Scooter replied to KillerChef's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
Thanks a bunch... I'm not running a 3 pellet load currently but I think the IMR White Hots burn a little "hotter" than the regular Pyrodex pellets. Great buck! -
Checked a few water sources today and ended up swatting the only two ducks I saw... A beautiful drake Ringer and a hen Bufflehead. The ringer is such a nice representative of the species, I put it aside wrapped up in the freezer real good until I find a taxidermist who's a bird guy.

Shoot more 3D or walk-through courses with all of your camo and gear in place... Really make an effort to focus on the little things that standing/static practice cannot teach you. 1. Develop your sequence of quietly stalking up, quietly and gracefully getting into a solid shooting position whether it be sitting on a chair/the ground, kneeling, or crouched down. 2. Practice using your rangefinder and/or binos then transitioning to the bow and knocking an arrow and connecting your release. 3. Work on slowly drawing your bow and limiting the amount of movement it takes to come to full draw. 4. If you plan on hunting from a blind- shoot from the blind in the same chair. 5. Shoot steep uphill and downhill angles and get familiar with what high wind does to arrow flight. (these details alone alone have been my downfall on completely missing 4 bucks since 2011) That's all I can think of right now. As you get closer to the hunting season, put more of your practice into bow "hunting" rather than bow "shooting".

Well, I really and honestly pray you don't get burned on this... I have a gut feeling it will turn out for the best. I commend you for sticking with the same guy- sometimes all people need is a little extra trust and faith and they will come through in the end. You never really know everything people are dealing with and it sounds like this guy probably ended up with a whole lot of bad news in a short period of time. You're giving him a hand-up and some help to square things up with a customer, which speaks volumes for your character and trust in an honest hand shake and a good look in the eye. Seems like we need more of that in this crazy world. Again, I hope and pray he comes through for you- and I probably could go without saying that you should probably bug him weekly for progress updates!

I have had dozens of occaisions fly fishing the lower Niagara river back home in NY for Salmon and Steelhead where I set the hook and had big fish spool me with my 10 weight (broomstick Tarpon flyrod) with a 20lb flouro leader. One time I set the hook and saw a headshake above water and just about puked at the size of that King, must've been close to a thirty pounder. He bulldogged down into an eddy 20 yards off the bank and I just couldn't get the leverage and angle to pull him out of there due to the steep banks. Had to snap him off... you haven't lived until you've had a fish that you could still feel the tail swimming but couldn't turn them to save your life! Back when I lived in Texas my wife and I went to Port Aransas in October for a mini-vacation. We went out on a big charter boat called the "Wharf Cat" and the bull reds were in the channel off the jetty. When the boat anchored all 50 folks on board dropped their baited hooks in the water. Seems like the fish were right underneath us because my wife hooked up right away- and all I saw was her almost get pulled off the rail. I grabbed her and the rod was doubled over! She fought it and fought it but never landed it. It tangled in several other lines and the deck hands decided to cut the lines. While she was fighting that fish- I caught a small panfish sized thing that the deckhands quickly snatched up from me and cut in half. The deckhand put a bigger hook on my line, attached the fish head section, and told me to hang on for dear life! I dropped the bait down to the bottom and before I could click over on the spool the thing started running under the boat. I locked down and all 240lbs of me almost went over the rail. Never got it- it snapped off, but I was told it was probably a 40-50lb bull redfish or a HUGE Black Drum.

there are endless tutorials available online on Youtube. I don't know exactly for your GPS, but I learned everything I needed to know about my Legend and Summit HC that way.

Every online site I know of is completely out and backordered on rimfire ammo, and has limits on how much you can get. The best thing you can do right now is set up a network of people who can get to a wal-mart or big 5 or Dick's or Sportsman's or Ace Hardware every day or whenever they bring the ammo out of the back and slowly build your supply up. It takes A LOT of work and fruitless trips, a lot of crazy people talking to you waiting in line, etc. I have built up a good comfortable supply for everything I own, and it took me almost 7 months to do it through purchases, trades, etc... It's a real pain in the keester these days but with some hard work you can get stocked up.

I think this is what I am going to do, so I don't have to worry about someone stealing one. Plus it will smell like dead timber and you can save $$$ by not having to spray it with scent away. A bow saw and good pruners cost around $50 total. Cheapest pop up blinds are $60 and up.
-
+1000 on natural blinds. Takes a little sweat equity but it's permanent and nobody steals them.

I use NAP Killzones... They fly perfect for me, and I killed a Javi at 36yards this past January with them. They are WAAAYYYY too expensive for what they are, but I tried them and they work. I'm sticking with them after trying out several fixed-blade models and tuning and tuning and tuning, and then finally giving up on those this year. My bow apparently just doesn't like 3 or 4 blade fixed heads...

I wish it wasn't so far away... Good luck on the sale.
