It's pretty much all gone except for the ice on the east and north side highest peaks that don't get a lot of sun. Even that stuff is almost all gone

I have no issue with drones equipped with optical cameras scouting for game during daylight... But when they start using FLIR cams at night I have serious objections. I agree with 4Falls, game cameras are sort of a drone. Animals will figure it out- buzzing sounds loitering overhead mean trouble, just like flashing tree trunks at night. If they can't figure it out they get dead.

Flatlander, how are you liking the white Hots??? I like them, but I always wonder if I should be using a magnum charge in that online...

Taxidermists can do a lot with plastics these days... Ok maybe not that, but it's a great buck regardless!!!

What's your most important piece of hunting gear?

For me- it's high calorie sugary snacks... the walgreens fruit snacks are my absolute favorite. I honest to god need a calorie break every 2.5 hours when I'm climbing around a lot. I can feel it when my body just wants some electrolytes and calories, and I find that sugary fruit snacks deliver them the fastest. I use fruit snacks, Jelly Belly Sport Beans, Clif Shot Blocks, fruit roll ups, etc. Doesn't matter which, I ALWAYS have lots of them in my pack. -
have you squared your inserts with the broadhead ferrules? Spin tested?

I think it's kind of a myth that everyone thinks distance from mountains is a surprise. Bobcats live in the flats too. The last one I got was out in the dry desert scrub pretty much nowhere near higher elevations. They get them all the time in South and Central Texas. Ain't no mountains there either. Yeah that one is plenty old enough. Smart enough to find a good food source too!!!

Really? 17HMR at 150Yds on a winter coat coyote??? Enlighten me, I got some Christmas $$$ and that's a rifle I have no experience with... In my mind, a 17gr Vmax shouldn't be able to kill that easily

Same with Coronado National Memorial... There's literally nothing out there that could even remotely be dangerous to allow archery and possibly shotgun and muzzleloader hunters ^this. Especially Saguaro NP East. There's got to me some monster couesies in there...

To all of you, and your families... A very Merry Christmas from the Scooter clan. My trail cams were going off all night in the living room so I know at least one person who was good this year!

I don't really want to switch from my .223 and shotgun, I just think I could get it done on a fox with my old Ruger and have a really nice pelt to work on...

Checking rifles zero at camp.
Scooter replied to AxisWorks LLC's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
trphyhntr- you are pretty much right on correct with that theory because different elevations and temperatures can have a significant effect on your zero. I posted what I did only for the purpose of someone who was either trying to avoid shooting in camp or did not have an adequate area to fire live rounds. -
Checking rifles zero at camp.

I use a laser boresighter and a sight-in target. Immediately after you get your rifle sighted in, mark off exactly 25 yards and put a target up. Pop in your boresighter and anchor your rifle with the crosshairs on the bullseye. Mark where the laser dot is on the target at 25 yards with a sharpie or a dot of some sort. Take that same target and boresighter out with you when you set up camp, mark off 25 yards again and put the target up. If your laser ain't on that exact dot when your crosshairs are on the bullseye something has moved and you have some work ahead of you. Most times it's because you failed to return your scope to zero after that last long-range practice session... In my opinion, this is really the only good and reliable use for a laser boresighter kit. -
yeah that's what I figured, a higher velocity 22LR hollow point like stingers (32gr), velocitors (40gr), or the Winchester Varmint HE's (37gr) should be plenty for a head shot or even a good solid high neck shot at 60yds and under on a gray fox. I don't think I would attempt to place the bullet anywhere else like the lungs or shoulders and expect that it would kill it. The bullet weight just isn't there for a solid bone hit outside of the head area and I'd be a fool to risk it.

Huachucas look like a frozen apocalypse up above 6500 right now. Some of it melted down today, but the south end should still be kinda white.
