Nice! The one I got in October was around the same size, and came in to the same call at 15 or 20 minutes... Awesome!

Does RC Cola have any anti-hunting ties?

I plan on setting mine (Eastman brand hub-style blind) up either the night before or morning of my hunt. Gotta give the deer some room when setting up blinds, tresstands, etc. Alot of people put their stands right on or above an active trail only to find out they stunk the area up enough that the deer won't use it anymore...

I spotted a couple of really solid areas during my rifle hunt that had deer (groups of does) traffic almost every morning/evening... My plan is to hunt the first few days from my blind and see how they react to it... I feel like if I can get the does to come by in bow range, the bucks will eventually start to follow- If they don't come by the blind, I will throw it in the truck and get back to glassing and stalking, I'm still getting used to that style of hunting- but I see deer every time I do it.

Got my bow ready!!! I'll also be in 30B... but 35A and 34B as well... I have several spots I'd like to try with the bow.

I'm hoping for a little bit of that luck in about an hour or so... Nice Buck!!!

Just starting out predator calling/hunting and wanted to know how often people see the Mexican Wolves AZGFD's manual warns about. Looks to me like they are or could be very easily mistaken for a coyote if the wolf is juvenile or around 20-30 lbs. What, if any sightings has anyone had in southern AZ with Mexican wolves and how do they act around calls? Are they known to travel alone or in packs? The warnings have me a little scared about shooting one, so I wanted to clear these issues up beforehand.

This is an old one from another state, but here goes: Back in NY I was 12 years old hunting spring turkey for the very first time on a green clover patch that butted up to a standing (dead) cornfield. Out pops a gobbler from some really thick stalks 20 yards away facing directly at me. I am shaking like a leaf from excitement, but still I put the bead on him... BOOM! The big gobbler starts flopping around... and the two jakes that were lined up perfectly behind him still 10 yards back into the cornstalks (which I had no idea were there) start flopping around. My Dad and Grampa (who were sitting with me) were kinda not happy that their hunt was also done for the year... I never went turkey hunting again after that.

It's in the pic. Radio shack mini-amp, Radio shack 3.5 male to stripped cable, 3.5 male to male male cable, 3.5 stereo to mono adapter, radio shack power horn, phillips 2GB mp3 player. Cost of the build was about $70 after tax. I think it puts out sound comparable to a Johnny Stewart preymaster which retails for at least twice that much $$$. I still have to paint up the speaker and amp because they are glossy white... but it worked on it's own so far! Only drawback is... I haven't figured out a remote system yet. I will... trust me.

So I was all by myself on Turkey-Day this year- wife went home to the family and left me to care for our dogs... kennel/airfare for two people was too much $$$ this year. I decided to go scouting for Coues, and took my "new" home made E-Caller along to try it out on some of the 'yotes we got here. After I was done glassing for pain-in-the-butt (Coues) deer- it was time. I literally just pulled off of the road at a spot that looked good and walked about 100 yards until I found an area with just enough visibility to hunt/shoot. Didn't bring a rifle, only my trusty Mossberg 835 with 00 buck. I shot a Bobcat in October with the 18.5" cylinder barrel- this trip I switched that out with a full-choke 28" vent rib (my turkey set-up). I can put at least 5 out of 9 pellet buck in the kill zone at 75 yards using this set-up. Anyway, I set up the E-Caller and foam rodent decoy upwind about 50 yards and started using the Varmint Als excruitator sequence. It starts with 2 minutes of silence, which gave me plenty of set-up time. Found a good bush to sit inside (just like a good turkey hunting spot) and got ready... 8 minutes later this coyote comes bouncing in straight at me. Luckily, there was a decent bush in between us that had a basketball-sized hole in it through which I could clearly see its face... Once that face filled the hole- I shot and dropped her. Dog never saw me, and I was pretty pumped afterwards! Here's a pic of my set-up (homemade caller and all). Still not in their winter coats yet...

Grew up hunting the snowy hills of Western New York... I can remember tagging along with my Dad when I had to hop through his footprints in the deep snow. Took my first whitetails there- first with a 12 gauge and then two years later with a bow. I have A.D.D. when it comes to hunting... I get into one species/method for awhile then move on after a year or two. Since the Military has sent me to a few different regions of our country, I have gone from deer to ducks to predators to hogs to Coues and hopefully this summer/fall antelope and elk. I have not yet taken a Coues or Mulie, but I'm getting awful close with two days left on my leftover 35A tag...

#4 buck pellet size is comparable to .17 caliber, correct? #00 Buck is .32 caliber, right? What's #000 buck's pellet diameter?

I shoot Carbon Express Pile Driver 340's with the same 70# 29" dimensions as you

Anybody down near the border that y'all can recommend?
-
Yeah, shotguns shooting shot would work. And night hunting doesn't ruin day hunting... In TX they still have plenty of 'yotes 24 hours a day... I imagine out here we have the same deal.
-
the only holes in that one were in the face and neck so the pelt will be okay from the shoulder down. face is wrecked though... what's the lethal range on that #4 buck? I never tried it. I'll tell ya- if I can get 'em in that close I'm gonna start using my .22 with stingers.

I wonder if God's gonna get the $20,000 - $50,000 AZGFD ticket??? haha. I'm surprised the telemetry collar was durable enough to report a signal back to them...

Compensating for more than brains... if you know what I mean

Shot a coyote on Thanksgiving day using Varmit Al's 16 minute excrutiator sequence... only took 8 minutes. That's 2 minutes of silence before the first sound, then a minute of the excrutiator, then 2 minutes of silence, then another minute or so of the excrutiator. Shot that coyote at 30 yards during the subsequent 2 minutes of silence... I will post the pic and story so you can see my set-up.

Thanks Bill... Great tips!!!

I'm stationed at FT Huachuca. My Coues hunt ends Thursday- then it's a nonpermit archery only tag in December. I think I have a good spot for that hunt... so I probably won't need the optics. I appreciate the offer bud. I don't need Whitetail season to end to take some coyotes... Got one on Thanksgiving morning, and a Bobcat in October- so anytime you wanna hook up for that is good!

I use a trigger stick monopod to steady the bino's... I have pretty decent Bausch and Lomb 10X42's and a 20-60x60 spotting scope for the detail work. Need to get some of those Swaro 15's, huh? Well- got a baby on the way so those will have to wait until later in life. I did see deer through my optics, so I'm getting alot better with it. Originally from western New York, so not used to rifles. We used bows and slug-guns in the thick pine and hardwoods- and the only thing you needed bino's for was checking out the hot tub behind that house up the mountain from our cabin Still got a lot to learn, but at least I've SEEN deer so far... must be doing something right!

There is a way with the iHUNT app- but I don't know about the others...
-
I have those for my iPOD Touch 4th gen and they sound pretty good when hooked to my external speaker set-up... but I normally use an old 2GB Phillips mp3 player. That way I can just use the available sequences or make my own sequences off of varmint al's website... With the apps it's harder to put together the sequences and have them run the right way.
