  1. please post where it is illegal to hunt next to a road... I need this info for an upcoming dove hunt- as I want to comply with the laws. I always thought that it was 1/4 mile from any knowingly occupied structure. Can't shoot from a vehicle, can't shoot across any maintained road. Am I missing something?

Things your huntin buddies do that drive you nuts : )

Something that drives me nuts is when I go out dove hunting, after the hunt certain people I have hunted with almost always expect me to take their doves... What is it? A fear of cleaning them? I answer them with a resounding "Nope, those are your birds, eat them- they're delicious..." and they more often than not try to argue with me to take their birds home for myself. I really hate that. If you want to kill the animals, yet have no desire to prepare them afterwards, that makes you a murderer- not a hunter. If you hunt with me, it's not a free pass to shoot your limit and then go home without doing any of the dirty work and using the resource you've harvested. Thanks for listening to my rant.
  3. I wonder how many bands they collect down in Argentina???
  4. Yeah be glad you still have your face. VERY UNSAFE and not even the slightest bit funny. There's a right way and a wrong way to clear ANY barrel obstruction... I teach gun safety classes, so this disturbs me that someone out there would attempt to "shoot" a barrel obstruction out. On top of it, a classic American shotgun was harmed. Glad to see nobody was injured- and I'm adding this photo to my slides for educational purposes. Be safe out there az_shooter, no matter how frustrated you get...

    price for the stock?
  6. Banded birds are always a great find!!! You don't see this every day: The second day of the season I put my 20ga O/U ahead of a pair of birds and pulled the trigger- dropping both birds. Rare occurence? Nope, not really. What made this event rare is that when I went up to look for them I couldn't find them right away, so my good friend walked up to help recover the birds, and he found both of them... literally dead on top of one another! He calls me over and we stood there staring at them for a minute thinking never in a million years could that whole thing be duplicated.

A post just because it doesn't seem right

I think its a desk at the DPS. Probably the same person who handles CCW permits. The post earlier made it sound like every gun that gets sold here requires a call or a fax to that office??? I don't know if that is accurate- and from what I read that little gem was in a bill (HB 2346) back in 2002 and that each FFL would have to pay a tax for each AZ Firearm Clearance Center background check... Can any current FFL's chime in on this and explain that? I have an AZ CCW so the most they've done on me was a NICS call (Big 5 and the Ft Huachuca PX call it in regardless). I think this AZ Firearms Clearance Center is a ghost. Can't find a number for them.

Does the Arizona Firearm Clearance Center actually exist? I've never even heard of that... That's crazy. And the fact that it's a 20ga O/U doesn't matter... The NICS check only has "Long Gun" or "Hand Gun" categories.

It's all infringement on the 2A if you ask me. But the system is the system and it's not going away.

    Huachuca mountain

only seen tacks at water holes... never ran across one calling or hiking. I know they're out there, and if they stay away from me I'm okay with that...

    Thought I would get out....

I think all of your pics look the exact same... Same spot and everything! Nice job, keep after them darn 'yotes!

The feds have up to a three business day hold on a "Delayed" NICS check. Arizona has nothing to do with that. After the three business days with no NICS status update notification, it is the option of the FFL (the gun store) whether or not to release the firearm. An FFL is NEVER required or compelled by any law to transfer the firearm. They must return money, as any business should if they do not deliver the product or service that was purchased. Again, final discretion of the sale does, in fact, fall on the FFL. There is nothing that can legally compel an FFL to transfer the firearm to anyone. All FFL firearm transfers are "at the discretion of the Licensee". The whole "California" thing just sounds like they were trying to buy some time and possibly be deceptive about not wanting to transfer the firearm until they got a status from NICS. The FFL's that I have worked for in the past have always required that we get a daily update from NICS for any delayed 4473's and to get verbal confirmation after 3 days that we were able to transfer the firearm. It sucks, but FFL's gotta cover their behinds too.

    Mosquito repellant

I don't wear my Thermacell. I attach it to my chair and I've really been impressed with the results considering the horrible wet conditions this year. Maybe I'll stuff a few dryer sheets in the dove vest too! Thanks for the tip.
  14. 4 this morning... Rained the whole morning down here and the birds were very scarce. 11 shots... I missed two screamers going Mach 2 with their afterburners on.
  15. I've been doing well with 20ga Winchester AA's (1175fps) and Federal Game Load (1210fps) - both in 7/8oz. #8's. About to try the Remington Game Load 7/8oz / #7.5 (1250fps) as soon as I run out of the venerable "Federales".

    Early Calling Fun

Cool thanks... I have a Maxus, but I haven't taken it out calling predators yet, it's my duck gun. I use my Mossberg 835 with 3" Remington #4 buck and a Carlson's Hevi-Shot IC tube. I was wondering how the Maxus would pattern with #4 and it seems like I'd just as well keep it in the safe and stick with my 835 for throwing big lead pellets...
  17. I give up... Haven't had adequate time to really do any quality deer scouting or hunting. Having only mornings open this holiday weekend- I think the best bet to get out will be getting after some predators with my .223 and some of them new mouth calls. Wish me luck!
  18. Awesome!!! Glad to see that others are having as good a time as I am... I just wish there were more eurasians down here
  19. I'm trying to find a spot where I can let some longbow-launched Flu-Flu's fly, but most of the areas where the birds are the arrows would be pretty difficult to find...
  20. .375 is ok but the meat ends up a little rare. I like a 460 nitro or a 458 remington for a nice crispy bird. I really see no reason why the 416 Rigby has been left off of this list...

    New to this

Last year, I missed four different bucks at very comfortable ranges for me. I have been bowhunting since 1994 and have taken a few deer back in NY. I shoot ALL the time and I broadhead tune my bow obsessively. Heck, I even used a rangefinder. I've learned the following: When God wants that animal to be yours, he will make it so. You just keep after it and you will be blessed soon enough.
