Vintage fishing lures and equipment - is it collectible?
Scooter replied to Coach's topic in The Campfire
Mostly Heddon or Arbogast wooden stuff with good paint or rare runs of certain color schemes. I do have a pretty good collection, but like you- I have no idea of their actual monetary value. I also have some bamboo fly rods and vintage reels. I just like putting them in shadowbox displays in the man cave. -
Maxima reds and maxima Blue streaks, CF radial x weave, and I've heard good stuff about Easton FMJ's

Been quail hunting a few times in the same area and i saw and heard coyote sign and wanna keep some quail and rabbits around so I hope I can call and coax them in. Wish me luck with my .223 and some #4 buck!!!

I've shot almost a dozen deer with an old Winchester 28" smoothbore 12ga with a bead sight. I probably could get it done on a Coues with the same old shotgun. Just saying. But I prefer to use a rifle

Is it possible to take a full inch off of the draw length of a single cam bow just by twisting the string a few times?
-
Saw a bow hanging on the hooks at a local shop and the owner wants it gone... It's a steal but I need the bow guru's on here to let me know where to get draw length modules for a Parker Hunter Mag. I need the SDH "D" module for 28" draw length. Do any of you guys know where I can get those?

Couldn't agree with you more! I personally have not shot a coues at more than 30 yards haha My rifle is a 30-06 and while its not a old fashion round I wouldn't trade my trusty 06 for anything. How in the world did you arrive at the conclusion that 30-06 SPRG is NOT an old fashioned round??? haha well I guess I meant it is not as old fashion as others. I know it been around for a while a while... yes.

+1 on the Channing Tatum reference... Nice job! Look forward to hearing more!

My 20ga O/U has MOD over IMP and I shoot Estate Super Sport Competition #9's... It doesn't take a whole lot to knock down a Scalie. I keep all the shots inside 40yds. If you let those far flushers go- they'll usually corner themselves or end up flying to heavy cover where you can sneak up and flush them closer. -
I heard once from a biologist that there were about 40 bears total between 35A/B for the past few years. Seems like they would thrive over in "B" better than over here in 35A

I just cannot seem to get behind Western Extreme... I'm sure Burnworth is a fantastic guy in real life, but on the show he just seems real uppity. I LOVE JIM SHOCKEY!!! Solo Hunter is an awesome show. Eastmans (EHJ and EBJ) magazine is great- I'm a subscriber for life! Try Heartland Bowhunter- you'll dig it.

Some of the Elk shows that the primarily Deer hunters do kinda frustrate me. (read sarcasm) Like I have no idea how the same famous folks get a rut tag every year in MT, NM, CO, AZ, WA, ID, KY and WY... Gimme a break- those animals are for sale. At least Ted Nugent ain't even trying to hide that his stuff is high-fenced management.

I personally like Heartland Bowhunter... I really enjoy their camerawork where they capture more of the "yake it all in" nature scenes than they do kill shots.

Not a fan of the Rooster... I only use Frank's Red Hot!!! It's a hometown Buffalo, NY thing.

I've owned and worn lots of different patterns, but i'd have to say that Realtree APHD, Mossy Oak Brush, Seclusion 3D Open Country, and King's Mountain Shadow are all very good patterns around here. Back east, I like Mossy Oak Break Up, Advantage Timber, and the older Realtree Hardwoods 20/200. For ducks in the cattails and corn I go to Advantage MAX-4... I think Mossy Oak Brush is my favorite recently- as I've had some very close encounters with predators that I've called in. It blends into the grass and dirt really well around here. I remember my first set of "high-tech" hunting camo... Trebark.

The best advice I can give you is to make a good sized slat (one cut top to bottom and then stretch it a little with your hands) in your mesh to shoot through. That way you can keep some mesh around the outsides of the windows for concealment but when you need to shoot there's a good 5-6" slot to sneak the arrow through. Wear all-black shirt, mask and gloves and they won't be able to pick you out. Other than that, if you watch the pros on TV, none of them use the mesh windows anyway...

Perkele! What kid-pack is that??? I wanna get my daughter out and I haven't a clue where to find the packs for it or for what ages of kids... -
I bet you've shot them all, there are no coyotes left out there!

Can anyone lend a hand mounting a scope the proper way???
Scooter replied to Adicted's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I'd use the Wheeler kit for leveling and the Wheeler torque FAT wrench for all of the screws.. They do come packaged in a scope mounting kit and are all you'll ever need. It's really a solid investment for the long-term. -

Heavy game vests yesterday (no pics)

Two dudes working upland habitat without a dog- 18 total Scalies, 2 jackrabbits and a cottontail yesterday. The birds were located all over the place, but were holding tight and flushing at our feet early in the morning, then getting smarter and much more nervous sometimes running out 50 yards or more as the morning progressed. We had to "corner" them with patented two-man tactics to get them to hold up so we could make them flush. The bunnies were a bonus, and that made a pair of heavy and full game vests! GPS ran out of batteries, but I think we covered about 8 miles doing wide circles chasing the birds. -

I'm leaving that spot alone for a few weeks, we've taken 23 birds out of there in two weeks and it's a relatively small area. The original covey was close to 50 birds by estimation. They split up into several smaller coveys of 8-12 as well as a few singles and pairs and they're spread out pretty wide since the first time I hunted them. I have enough of them to make a few meals- now onto calling coyotes again in the same area. -
I had a Doe and Fawn walk by the blind every day last January and that fawn would always bleat a couple times to find momma... so I guess you could use a "can" call and sound like a deer- but I usually don't grunt or rattle.
