So a long time buddy of mine from back home, the original cheese state of Wisconsin, wants to try his luck at hunting coues. He will be a nonresident applying for a tag next year. He would like to have a decent chance of drawing an area with good quality, knowing as a nonresident that is not at all an easy thing to do. So any advice on units I should recomend he put in for as a nonresident? He wants to hunt with his rifle, and intends to get it set up for longer range shots than he is used to having in the home state. Thanks in advance for you input.

Wow, I guess those cave bulls can get to be Toads!!! Congrats!
-
Now that is a really cool hunting/family story. Congrats all around!

At the risk of being accused of being someone I am not, and I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling the departure of Richardoutwest and couesnaz is all part of a forthcoming nonresponse from DBLUNG and the Bowtech group. I have the feeling that if any response is ever provided, it will explain how the group does not agree with Craig's report of the incident, how they have plenty of information and a story to tell to the contray, but after seeing all this stuff on the net, and after talking with the other side, have determined that they do not want to participate in an on internet debate, so they will simply have to accept the fact, as either couesnaz or Richardoutwest stated earlier, "the parties to the event know what happen and that is all that really matters." Again, I hope I am wrong. I hope the promise of a full report of the other side's story is told. But I doubt that will ever happen.

Thursday, so we should be getting the Paul Harvey reoprt, "the rest of the story" soon, at least that what the cohorts of DBLUNG and the Bowtech group have promised.

Great bull and nice report. Thanks

U didn't get a shot in the AM, what's the tactic between 10am and 3pm?

Like so many things in life it a mater of finding the right balance. Yes you want you kids to enjoy the experience. If they are very young, having them sit quiet all day may turn them off to hunting because it is too boring. I think it depends on the age of the child. The older they are, the more patience they will have, and hopefully the more disipline they will have to doing whatever it takes to make the harvest. So I guess it just depends on the situation, but make sure they enjoy the experience. I know you will, nothing better than hunting with your kids. -
Congrats to you and your dad. Very lucky to be able to share such a hunt with him. Good job!

One final thought Sherlock, it seems you have become obessed about me. I have viewed this thread to be about a bad situation that seems to happening more often than should within our hunting community. This is not about me and should not be about you unless you were involved in some way. Your efforts to divert the attention away form the issue is childish really. After you have made me go back through the monstermuleys info, it seems Craig called you out in the beginning, on being off base and spewing misinformation. I guess that is your routine. At this point, as I said before, I am happy to wait and see the rest of the story provided by your cohorts. Please have them provide us with the rest of the story instead of your nonsense.

Richardoutwest, or should I call you a very inept Sherlock Holmes. My first post was Sept. 14 at 7:06 a.m. However Tjwking made a post on monstermuleys at 9:08 p.m. on Sept 13 where he explained the situation and I put 2 and 2 together, figured since he was asking about certain information on this site, and it was posted by the same person who set forth the facts on monstermuleys, that it was the same incident, and that is why I made reference to the link without adding any facts. I made a deduction, much better than you have, which turned out to be correct. Did I know it was the same incident, no, but it sure seemed likely based on the same person making the post about the facts and then asking about a person and truck on this site. Really did not seem like a very difficult determinatiobn to make. So there you have it Sherlock, I thought they were related, and guess what I was right, you aren't.

Congrats on taking a great bull!

Congrats on a great trophy! Just does not get any better than hunting with your kids!

Well I have been on sidelines for long time. Finally registered because of a thread I had to comment on. By and large from what I have seen great group of guys.

So tell us and posts pics of how the help led to success . -
Wish you could have got the whole bull on video.

Congrats on a great Bull!

I guess if you spend enough time in the field you are bound to come across interesting things, I have never been this lucky though. Great find and happy to hear you got to keep it.
-
No problem Richardoutwest, at this point I think I have said all I can think I would add to the discussion, so I will just sit back and wait for the rest of the story.
-
No I am not this fellow hunter you are referring to, but I must say I agree entirely with his general coments and concerns about how our sport is harmed by the type of unethical action your associates appear to have done. However as you and Couesnaz have repeatedly stated, we will wait for final opinions once your associates tell the rest of the story.
-
What I am sure about is that most of us can't wait for your associates to provide the rest of the story so we can all eat crow.
-
Well Couesnaz , I am not that familiar with that other site, but if this other fellow writes like me, agrees with my general comments, then must be an okay guy. No one has asked me to comment or refrain from doing so. I am not familiar with any of the parties. I am just a hunter who finds this issue interesting and the exchange of opinions on the issue says alot about our hunting community. Like I said can't wait to see if your fellow associates ever come on to tell their side of the story. I always like Paul Harvey's " the rest of the story" bit. Well I can't wait to hear the rest of the story.
-
Couesnaz can't wait! Whatever and whenever that happens, if it happens, I am confident it will bring in more comments from the others on Craig's side, which will lead to another 100 or so posts to this thread. Maybe will all get to know the names of the outfitters involved as well. That may add much to the analysis of the parties' credibility or lack thereof. Can't wait.

On eating crow, if that happens so be it, but really doubt that is ever going to happen with respect to this story. Those associated with DBLUNG or the BowTech group have speculated about how a completely different story will be told once their associates get back from hunting. Okay here is some more speculation , based on how quickly Richardoutwest Or Couesnaz were able to confirm his associates had not recovered bull, shortly after that post about the same was made, it tells me DBLUNG and his BowTech group are in fact able to access the web and if they wanted to, could have already responded, but do not want to. More speculation, they are concerned that if they do so, whatever they say, Craig will provide a further response, with more factual details, which will put them in even a worse bad light. Yes I speculate that DBLUNG and the Bowteh group are hoping in the worst way that people grow tired of this thread and story, lose interest in it, and that it simply fades away. The last thing the want to do is to attempt to make up a story to justify their conduct. At least that is my speculation. If I have guessed wrong, I will simply eat a second helping of crow, but I truly do not think that is going to happen.

Just got a call from a friend of mine who is still hunting. Reported that he helped someone track a bull yesterday morning. Evidently the hunter made a bad shot, in the hind quarter. My friend saw the hunter shortly after the shot, while the hunter was sitting down planning to wait for 30-45 minutes to commence his tracking. My friend offered to help. Well good news, the hunter was really lucky, apparently hit the bull's main artery in the back end and it bled out in about 400 yards. Funny how things work out, even with poor shooting, when fellow hunters help each other.
-
Couesnaz, I simply do not see how the group can spin itself out of the mess it apears to have created. Seems to me that Craig has recordings of conversations where the group admitted it knew he had shot the bull, put themselves between Craig and his bull after knowing Craig was tracking his wounded bull, jumped the wounded bull from its death bed, after Craig went to their camp to discuss the situation they immediately started layin into him cursing without provocation, and then, after promising to give Craig 2 days to look for it, started tracking it about 2 hours later, once the Game and Fish left. I suppose they could come on and say Craig is a complete liar, but looks like there are some undisputed facts that put the group in a bad place no matter how they may want to spin it. We will wait and see I suppose, but if half of what Craig says is true, then the group screwed up big time in my book. Maybe they don't see it that way. Maybe they take the position, unless and unitl the bull has taken its last breath, it is fair game for any other hunter to pursue, even if they saw Craig shoot it and knew he was tracking it. If so, that is their opinion. I am one who simply thinks that kind of hunting is unethical and reprehensible, even it is not technically against the law. So there you have it. That is my opinion. You may disagree and you have the right to do so. It would be my hope the vast majority of our hunting community would share my views. I suppose that is one thing we may find out, through discussions on sites such as this. One other thing, someone mentioned above that this incident is not about guides or outfitters because ultimately it is the hunter that makes the choice as to what he is willing to do. I do not agree entirely with that statement. The guide or outfitter does have some impact in my book. Lets say the situation is as Craig reports, meaning that the group saw that Craig had shot the bull and was atempting to track it. Say DBLUNG tells his guide he wants to go after it even though they are aware of Craig's efforts. In my opinion an ethical guide would explain to DBLUNG that such action would not be ethical and that there are more bulls in the forest to go after. If the hunter insisted, I believe an ethical guide should say he has no interest in being part of such unethical conduct. Now some will say the client is always right and that he has paid the guide to do as he asks, but to that I say bs! It should not be about the almighty dollar. A guide or outfitter should not check his ethical standards out the door simply because his client has none. At least that is my opinion. Again, others may disagree and a site such as this lets us get a sense of the type of people our hunting community is made up of.
