I feel your pain,, its happen to me too with a archery buck......I still have the dog...Lets say he has learned a lesson...Just look at my icon pic...He guards that elk brisket well...He never touched it...A couple sniffs I"m sure.....

I'm taking a buddy up to 8 for a muzzleloader hunt ,which I know very well and I have my key spots..but have not been up since archery elk started ..Dont like to intrude on others hunt..if you know what i meen...Just curious What are the herds are doing... Are they moving, staying put,sleeping ,dancing,,heavy bugle, lite bugle...or are they just as confused as most hunters....I know most years the rut usually picks up in the 3rd week of sept..If some body has a update and let me know what im up against so i can help a friend with his 1st big game experience....THX...

I got up here yesturday evening and believe it or not it's pretty quiet .. Not alot of traffic not yet anyway... That's one thing I like about muzzle , not alot of yahoos do it.. Little more die hards... Has for the elk , heard 0 bugle in evening .. But from 4-8 A.M it was active ... 8:01 nothing like they all got drunk and passed out...it's actully pretty warm up here .. Might have somthing to do with it... Tomorrow it begins....

My buddy was up there and said that there were a few bears that got into camps and were in coolers and so on....I wonder if I would rather have bears or thieves,, I think bears are just hungry the others i think we can go on and on about until we are blue........As in bugeling goes, i dont do it , i think most people are just giving up there position...... And i have a few elk under my belt...Soo .Keep it simple Stop ,Look, and Listen...And luck might be on your side......well im going to start packing the last of stuff.... Hope we will smell the fine oder of black powder on friday morning ...I cant wait to see his face when i hand him the classic buck knife and tell him to go to it.........To me its priceless to watch peeps do it for the first time....Makes me smile now ...Lol...Greenhorns....Goodluck everybody

I couldnt agree more... the best hunting advice my grandfather ever gave me was ""STOP"".. ""look"" and ""Listen"" did i mention ""STOP!!!"

My 4 bonus pts didnt get the Kiabab but I did get unit 7...I know it was a good unit a decade ago or so...but is it still....? I hunted the NW high side of the unit. but alot can change in that amount of time..I heard its been a little beatup with too many tags and yahoos....Just wondering if anyone can lead me in the right direction...Dont need a honey hole...Just a place to start ..Well good luck everyone...

ill be in 7 ...im on some brutes..i have watched them and have them on cameras..Ill post the pics if my cameras still there..lol....Hopefully ill have some pics with some blood and my big smile.....I hear alot peeps will be in 8 which i know well and probablly will be in briefly ,im helping a buddy on elk muzzleloader next month...goodluck

I was heading up to 7 also on thursday..This was the first weekend I didnt Go up ,,,,,Is it the far south west part under the burn or a new spot????? you can Pm if you want..

I think the rut has been starting later and later every year for the last 5years or so.....And that is from my experience in the field...But Its out of are control and all we can do is hope it falls on are dates...I dont have a tag this year but the early muzzleloader hunt has been prime rut time ....TRuST ME......Just look at what my dog is looking at ..mmmm..Smoked elk Brisket...GREAT GUARD DOG.....

i only drove though it ,,,it look like it would hold alot of animals but might be hard to locate them..im going up early tommorrow and i am going to check it out....

Well that would kind of narrow it down where the deer are....Up there smiling at you...but it probably will be good for the herd in the long run...

i have taken 2 deer out of 20c both around the sour grass area. i havnt been there in a few years but was told the road is closed,, so i dont... i would like to know cause one was a late archery toad....

30 packs are good ,30inch deer are better......i always believed that hunting starts way before the hunt and shooting start during the hunt...So im going up the mountain as much as i can....Cause i love it when a hunting trips turn into camping trips cause u bagged out early.... then 30pcks are for lunch ...and i dont know a better feeling than when everyone is getting up to hunt. hearing the moans & groans of putting boots on and staying warm and you can stay in bed and yawn and scratch... lol ....,and your only worry is getting more ice.....IT DOESNT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT...unless a youngster gets one of course..

Check them as often as you can , i know its hard but its the truth....But everyone is right ,putting it on a tank is a greenhorn move for sure unless on private land or so....I have some out ... i have had good luck on pics and that i still own all them all,,hes right couple hundred back are good but still risky...I have had luck putting them high on back of big bowls..Its a great hobby and a expensive one if not smart,,,,.Well good luck

I got back lastnight from 7 ..Seen a good number of wildlife including deer couple good ones but not great but enough to get the blood moving thats for sure...i dont know the unit but i think i got the basic down now...Weather was great with a comfortable rain which doesnt bother me almost prefer it....i think I might head up there again and focus on a few areas i liked.... those are great pic everyone thx...if any places i should focus on let me know...problem is here today long gone tommorrow.....!!!!!

It is all of 7 but the little that i do remember was on the westside by Kendrick mountain & white horse hills were great places,but i see game and fish say the same on the website so we all no what that means..Being a coues hunter i dont mind glassing for days till my eyes bleed, i almost prefer it...Not to mention i got a new pair of vortex,,,but what i know is they like to stay high there but thats why hunting starts now and shooting starts in nov..thx everyone if theres any more bones out there ill take them..
