OUCH Lark If you want a short mag thats fine. A quick look in my loading manuals did not list the short mags but if I recall right the 7MM-08 is about 300 FPS faster than the 7MM WSM. Better check them again, 7WSM is faster than the 7-08 with any weight bullet. Both are great cartridges. The 270 WSM is a good cartridge but the 7WSM is much more versatile with a better selection of bullets and better B.C.'s

Here is one of the bucks killed on Fort Bayard. I believe this is the hunt that Eric K. was on. This buck was killed by my (step) son and unfortunately I was not there. It is a great buck and he was very excited.

The dude in the picture looks like he may have forgotten his toilet paper. And sacrificed the old sleeve instead of the sock. Been there done that. Dan ahahaahah That was the first thing I noticed and thought What is wrong with us?

Ernesto C, feel free to call him and ask the story. Kevin Reid @ Reid and Assoc. (505)891-2528. Then you can fill us all in on the killing of these two monsters. I have already heard enough. There is no doubt that Kevin is a fine bowhunter and has harvested a number of fine trophies under fair chase conditions. He holds a number of record book animals, that were taken under "respectable" conditions. I just dont (personally) feel these two bulls are included with those.

Ok guys, The hunters name is Kevin Reid and he is a very wealthy builder/contractor in Alb, NM. Both bulls are the size claimed and YES, both were killed in Idaho behind high fences. They will not be worth much for pope and young, but SCI recognizes high fence trophies. This raises the old debate, what is the "Trophy" value of an animal killed behind high fences?? Where the only real factor is how much money do you have? Not necessarily stating my opinion, just raising questions.

Yes, I do a lot of predator hunting in the winter. Hope to get out to Arizona this year, since I have a hunting license but no deer tag to go with it, might as well use it for something. One of my best pup squeelers is an open reed antler call made by one of my friends.

I am gonna use it for my lamp, but what kind of calls do you make? I am a call freak, must have about fifty calls of various types/makers.

LOL, too funny. The elk sheds are from two different units NM 13 and 15, muley shed is from 15 as well. The brown shed was found a week ago and was in the shade of a big tree so it stayed in great shape. Looked forever for the other side, but not that much luck I guess.

This has to be the biggest 5x5 I have ever seen! [/img][/img]

Yea, we guessed him to be 350. The quality of the video was much better than these pic's. He is a young bull!! He is prob three years from prime at least. This guy wil be a monster when he grows up. You cant see it in the pic's but he has a very small lump/point on the side of his left 4th point, a few inches from the top. -
Sounds like you are screwed redman But I must be too, cuz mine hasn't hit either

My custom Rem 700, 257 stw, 110gn accubonds at 3400fps, Leupold 6.5-20 LRT or my custom Rem 700, 7mm ulta mag, 175gn partitions at 3250fps, Leupold 8.5-25 LRT, just depends on what I am hunting.

.i looking real hard at the 25wssm.mybee a little on the light side. The 257 wssm would be a good choice, The 25-06 is a good round and the 257 wssm almost rivals it. I think the 270 WSM would be abetter choice, with 130's. Good velocity and plenty of bullet for either the deer or the antelope. 7 and 30 IMHO are heavier than you need for these small light framed animals, as is the 140 gn bullet in the 270WSM.. Having said that, I carry my 7mm Ultra Mag a lot, but mainly because it is such a good long range rifle, not because I think I need the power.

I am going to be in Phoenix in a few weeks visiting family and was hoping to do some shooting. We are staying with friends that live near the Ben Avery Shooting park. Can anyone give me info on this range or any other in the area where I can shoot at 500yds plus. Thanks.
-
Thanks guys, do you by chance know how long the rifle range is?

A lot of s**t talkin goin on here! From an outsider, it is obvious that, regardless of where he got it from, Outdoor writer knows more of the facts here than anyone. I think that we should all be careful and look for unusual behavior in the animals we hunt, take care when field dressing etc. Truth of the matter is that we all stand a better chance of being shot and killed by some booger eater in the woods than getting CJD or CWD. And no, my theory on this isnt proven by any research !!!

I had started carrying latex surgical gloves in my pack years ago, not because I was worried about disease, but because it made clean up so easy. Just pull off the gloves and you are clean again. Of course now, hearing this, I am glad and will definitely be continuing this practice! To all his friends and family, sorry for the loss.
