    Remington Sendero

The sendero is a great gun, you wont quite get 300UM velocity because most of the 300UM's have 26" barrels as well. I have a rifle I built for myself, styled after the sendero, but with a 28" barrel in 7mm Ultra Mag. It really is not that bad to carry around, and man they shoot. As already stated, tune up the trigger and you will be fine.

    Rude hunters

I have read many of the posts here, and have had my share of problems, but thought I would add this one. We spent all summer scouting and thought we had found the land of milk and honey. Nice bucks every time we scouted and no signs of other people. Even killed a 500 lb bear on one of the trips, scored 19 3/4". Well come season, two other groups show up. We talked to them and they all seemed like good people. We were 12 miles in from the road, so we figured they would be a little more serious hunter types. We all got together and made a game plan so we wouldn't be walking on eachother. It worked out perfectly and we all were in deer. It was refreshing to hunt with/around people that were respectable and professional. Too bad this is the exception rather than the rule.

    Ruger No. 1

I have worked on quite a few of the #1's and they are great. Try n find a local gunsmith that works on them a lot, since there are little tricks to them that you can only learn by workin on 'em. There are really only two choices with the trigger, either have a gunsmith work on it or relace it with either a Kepplinger or Moyers, with the Kepplinger being the nicer of the two. Most of them shoot well and from the aspect of a long range gun, they will be about four inches shorter than a bolt action with same length barrels, so a 28" barreled #1 would be about the same length as a 24" bolt action (approximately).
  5. I feel for what you guys in Arizona are up against. When Taulman hit New Mexico hard a number of years ago, he sent letters to all the landowners in the Gila, offering them a flat $3000 for their tags. Many of the outfitters lost the tags they had been buyin for years. Luckily our landowners were more comfortable with someone they knew, than with a few hundred more$$, others were not so lucky. Taulman is evil and has the money. It sounds like he is spearheading this whole process in Az. We have the landowner tags here, but the landowner ONLY controld his private, not the lease lands or BLM, unless they are locked by the private. I wish you guys luck, you are up against a lot of money backed people.
  6. I don't pretend to know the details of this debate, but I can guaruntee that anything that involves the Forest Guardians cannot be good. These people are active anti's and I am sure that anti hunting would be in their plans for how to use this land after it is taken over from the ranchers.
