How do i set up my game cam
ddy58 replied to creed_az_88's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I have four trail cams now and I love them. Mostly I use them for hunting Muleys at high elevations but the same things probably apply. If I was you I would get a digital one for sure. They may cost more but you can save a lot on film and prints. I have mine set at 3 to 4 feet off the ground and either facing up or down a well used trail, this usually gets you better full body shots instead of just butts. Just make sure to secure them well and try to find hidden spots or they will walk away. Ive had one stolen and one had pictures of a guy trying to steal it. I prefer the Cuddeback digital but I just bought a new different one and havent tried it out yet. -
I shoot a Martin Cougar 4 and I love it. I am a taller person and I really like the longer axle length. This helps me to balance and it also seems to shoot my Easton Axis arrows super fast.

I always feel the best way to stalk is just to hunt like normal but take two steps and look at everything you can see. This works great in thicker areas where you cant see very far. Also factor in the wind and focus the majority of your glassing in the proper direction. The key is to always be moving slower than the deer if you want to see them before they see You.

Why is it that no one thinks there are deer in 23??? But after thinking about it I know why. The area we were hunting was very thick with pines and brush and the farthest you could see is about fifty yards and that was rare. Also I never saw a single other person off of the roads or any sign that anyone ever hunts off the roads... Ultramag if you want Ill send you a pm of exactly where we were but you have to promise not to tell.

We usually hunt the cave creek or big bug areas but on a tip we hunted unit 23 this year and these are the results. I also had a Coues bigger than this one walk within 15 yards of camp. Unfortunately he was closer to my bow than I was. Thanks to Kemp for the tip if you read this.

I switched to the new easton axis 400's this season and havent had one problem. I would highly recomend for penetration and durability.

The muley was with twenty to thirty other deer and was shot in the neck at 35 yards. I shot the coues while he was following a doe at 17 yards. We were both just out hiking through the brush and got lucky.

In the snow in unit 23.

I shot this nice 93 inch gross coues and my buddy shot this 30 inch muley this month a couple hundred yards apart and within two hours of each other
