So here is my daughters first coues buck. Yeah first he green scored 123 5/8, scored by Dale Robertson at Wild Heritage Taxidermy who is an official SCI scorer and our favorite taxidermist. Dale does amazing work. Regardless, a once in a lifetime buck with a ton of character and the score is only a detail in the story so nobody has to wonder. She is going to post her story following the pics. Such an amazing day with four of the five kids on the hunt plus my wife. By the way she is a mule deer fanatic and call it sibling riverly or something else she has decided that mule deer rule and coues deer are just carp deer. Well done my girl who made an amazing shot and has turned into quite the huntress. She is 13 and has smoked 4 deer and 3 pigs. It isn't good for ya when she has a tag. Now don't leave them hangin girl get that story on!!!

More 3A-3C Velvet Mule Deer Action!
Bowhntrsx7 replied to Koury Guide Service's topic in Koury Guide Service
Shane thought you would like to she my wifes opening day buck. Had to check your latest post date thought we might have killed one of the bucks you had been watching. But doesn't look like it. Though one of the bucks had a very similiar frame. She started hunting last year, has archery deer hunted a total of three days and has killed two bucks. Killed a small coues buck last year. I would be jealous but she works hard and did a bunch of scouting on her own this year to keep an eye on him. -
Wow what a trip....Congrats and how awesome to smoke a lion...What a great weekend.

My coolest is a couple of years ago I had just gotten back to the house from running the kids to school and was heading to work. My wife and I are standing in the living room when, we hear this screaming outside and I look out just in time to see these two mule deer fawns go running by. I'm thinking what goofy deer, didn't make any sense why they were playing like that. Then 8 or 10 does go running by and it clicks. That wasn't a fawn it was a coyote holding onto a fawn. Run upstairs grab a rifle and head out the door. I get around the brush, a fawn is just bawling down in the creek. Like nothing I had ever heard, varmit calling on steroids. I'm heading that way when the does chase a coyote right in front of me. I pull up the 22-250 and let one go. He's runnnin, I'm shootin offhand and hit him in backend somewhere and he goes to spinning. I try to put another one in him but before I can all the does run up and just start stomping him into the ground. I couldn't believe my eyes, so crazy! One of the coolest things I have ever seen in the wild/backyard! The coyote finally somehow manages to get to his feet and the he takes off. The does just stand there watch me go right by them to look for the fawn. We found it down by the creek alive and well and just hearded it towards momma...We trailed the coyote but never found him. Between those muley does and 57 gr of pain and misery I'm sure he wished his last day on earth he had just walked by that fawn instead.. Good thread

I started hunting with my dad when I was 3 and my brother was 1. The first buck that I ever killed was a forkhorn and last year i killed a 3x3. So this one started a little different. We woke up a little late. This year I wanted to kill a 4x4 Mule Deer. We got to our spot and there was some people that had found a few good Muley bucks. So we decided to try to find our own bucks but instead we whatched them stalk the 4x4 buck they had found. After a long stalk, they got a few shots. By now it was late morning and I wanted my own buck. So we went to a spot where we have not been in years. We all started glassing and Dad and I were talking about the AZ Big 10. He asked me "How are you going to shoot all the 10 if you hate Whitetail?" I said "then I will replace it with a Coyote." Then he said "10 more mins and then we will leave." So I headed back to the other set of rocks that the family was glassing off of, to pack up and head to the truck. Then Dad came running over and was exitedly telling us that he found a BIG buck. So we headed over there and on the way over there he was asking me "I know it is a whitetail but just think about it". I looked at him with the 15's but you could not see him, cuz he was too far. Right before we left my brother Hunter told me "you better kill this deer." So it was time to put a stalk on him!!! The whole way over there I was thinking Hunter is going to kill me if I do not kill this buck. We started across the ridge and it was Katclaw jungle. Dad kept looking over the ridge to see if the buck was still bedded. We finally got over the ridge and across from him and he got up!!! We kept moving around to get where I could shoot. He was eating Katclaw and then found a new place to lay down in the shade. My dad had me dry fire because I had BUCK FEVER BAD!!! I usually don't have time to get in my ear plugs but today we did. So I asked dad to give me a thumbs up when I could shoot. After about an hour he stood up and started to eat again. Dad gave me the thumbs up!! But before I could shoot he was in the Katclaw agian. Finally he came out into an opening and I couldn't keep my crosshairs on him. My dad had to tell me to take a deep breath. I did and then I was ready to shoot!!! Dad told me that I was 305 yards from the deer. SO I fixed my scope to 300 yards, held right in the middle of his shoulder. Then pulled the trigger. He walked 2 yards then died. I kept my record and only had to use 1 bullet. We got headed over to where the deer was and it was just cliffs everywhere. Then once we got to the mountain that the deer was on you could not see the ground because there was katclaw all over!!! When Dad got to the deer I was half way up the mountain stuck in the katclaw, Dad was flipping out because the deer was sooooo BIG. All he could say was "Josey Josey Josey." I finally got over there and the buck was huge!!! My dad wanted to get some pictures of me and the buck but there was so much katclaw that it was hard!!! Dad started to gut the deer and then they whole family decided to come over and see the huge deer. My brother is Whitetail Crazy!!! We got the deer all clean and ready and then we straped the deer on dads Badlands Pack! Dad packed the deer (that was not skinny at all!!!) out of the canyon whole. We made it down to the creek and then Dad and I waited for the kids to come down the creek. Then we got headed back up the hill. Once we got to the top I found a shed. Then the road at last. If I had to shoot a Whitetail agian it would be this one!

Dillon's first day archery hunting out of a stand
Bowhntrsx7 replied to gotcoues's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
That is a crazy day, not one he will forget anytime soon I'm sure. No bear or lion tag?? My bunchloves to hunt as well and there all getting close to the pundage minimum. So watch out pigs in Jan.Congrats to Dillion on a great day of hunting. -
Thats a super sweet find. Would be cool to watch him grow thru pics and sheds in coming years. Congrats again.
-
Sounds like a great weekend. Congrats, enjoyed the story and the pics. Isn't it a blast when you can just bounce around the state and get some serious hunting in and fill a tag or two in the meantime.
-
I think if they moved the season back at all it would just shorten the season for all of us. It always goes up to the archery elk hunts and there not going to have those hunts going concurrently. Besides this might be selffish but I can hardly wait for it to start now, if I had to wait another week or two it might kill me. Looking at the bucks from this weekend it kind of seems like where folks are hunting on how done they are growing. Congrats to all those who could connect this weekend. I'm in Texas working on the fires and have a little under a week to go. Can't wait to get home and get some hunting in!!!

What a gorgeous buck. I love those eye guards and the symetry. Dale will do a great job preserving that hunt.
-
What a buck. Congrats great way to start the year.
-
So I seen this buck in person and its even more amazing to look at. Bears are so hard to recreate there actual true to life size but Dale nailed it. This is my buddies wife's bear and he really recreated what he was alive. I have had Dale mount a lifesize lion, treat a velvet muley, a trout for my son, a javi rug for my little huntress and some other small projects. He has done an outstanding and unbelievable job on each and everyone. His work just keeps getting better. Right now this lifesize bear owner also has an amazing high country mulie from CO, a giant whitetail and Dale has finished a couple of mounts already for him too! I have recommended him several times and no one has ever been disappointed. Dale great job. Hurry Gino its goin home Sunday!! By the way this should make you sick this is her first bear, gonna be tough to top that one in AZ.

Hey everyone first post. Anyways I have been a serious bowhunter for a bunch of years and in all those years have only lost a couple of animals(1 deer, 1 pig). That being said I lost my best bow buck a couple of august seasons ago, great shot tight to the sholder but high 6 inches below the spine. Left for the night, then got one of those gulley washer late nighters. We looked for a whole day and even couldn't turn up blood let alone the buck. Didn't ever find birds either. With the rain not surprised, though the birds not finding him always thru me for a loop cause I thought he was dead on his feet. But during the last two Jan. my buddy has shot two nice bucks one was far back, but last year again tight to the shoulder but high. Watched the buck bed down and could see bubbly blood on the entrance. Buck got up after a couple hours and walked over the ridge and was never recovered. I don't give up on blood and even for after I lose blood I don't give up. Not sure if were dealing with just some bad luck or what. Don't want it to happen again. Thinking almost need to heart shoot them very low in the chest and tight to the shoulder. Wondering if were missing what we think are dbl lungers by shooting high. What do youguys think??

Thanks yeah no worries had kind of gotten over losing them. With archery hunts coming up just wanted to see what others had to say and try not to let another one get away. Hope your season goes well.
