BTW, the new pack is everything advertized. It's the perfect 3 day trip pack. It will haul all you want to carry, and is expandable with add on bags, ect. Zippers all seem to be top quality, and I love the rifle scabbard(this is why I bought this pack). My Ultramag fits well with my TRS-1 mounted, and the load is nicely up against my body. I will post pics of it in the field, and hopefully bloody humpin a cape and rack...

Were they empty, or still loaded? They were empty. It looked like where they did an exchange. I did notice something that I've not seen before. The old packs had all the empty water bottles and food wrappers inside them. Are the drug runners going "green"?! That's certainly what I thought They may have gotten some stimulus money from the department of energy...

+1 for not gutting the deer. I first used this method about 25 years ago backpacking a bow hunt for desert mulies in the Davis mountains. I was young back then, and stuck a buck way back in and up a ways. After the initial jubilation was over, I realized I had a 240 pound animal on the ground. I had read something I think written by Dwight Schew or someone. I spilt his hide right down the spine and boned the meat from the top down. it still took me 2 trips to get him out, but gut and quartered it would have taken 4 trips I think. Also the neck roast in the crock pot is a delicassy. I will add that on a rutting buck, I will pour off the broth and replace w/ beef broth, it makes it not so gamey so the wife and kids will eat it too.

I used to hunt a ranch in west Texas that was known for Rose Plume Aggate, and also had some opals laying around. I may have missed out on a good buck while scrounging through the rocks...
