If I remember right, there was a snag south of Hannigan's Meadow on 666 that had a bunch of arrows in it. This was like 25 years ago, and we stopped and added ours to it. But, nelieve me there has to be more arrows in the canyon below than in the tree.

I hate to pop yer bubble, but G&F is looking into making it illegal to use feeders for wildlife. My suggestion is, if you want more info, PM somebody so it is not seen by the public or put it in a forum for texas residents. They use feeders regularly and know what works best. By posting it here, it is just giving them more ammunition, and hurting the ones that hunt using that method.

Great job Troy................that is a memory that will last thruout yer life!!

Bowtech: Allegiance or Tribute?
bowhuntinmaniac replied to archeryasu's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
My friend and I have the Allegiances......have had no limb problems. He is shooting light carbons at 64# and getting 314 fps. I shoot heavy carbons and get 278 fps at 64 lbs, They are great bows..........cant tell you anything about the tribute tho. The Bowtech trailer will be at the Bowhunter Happening, so it may be a good time fer you to go and try out all the bows. -

I looked on the G&F website and cant find the boundary between 22N and 22S.........what is it, and I may be able to help. -
Dave, I really think they are doing this fer one reason.........they want to permit the archery deer hunt and have to justify in some way. I think you will get yer wish within the next 3 years.
-
Opening date is again on Labor Day weekend..........so most of Phoenix will be here.......and they say they want quality of hunts? Actually, I think what they are trying to do is get enough complaints, they will have ammunititon to put the archery deer to a draw.

BRAND NEW PSE FIRESTORM X RH BOW
bowhuntinmaniac replied to bowhuntinmaniac's topic in Classified Ads
hey Mike, I musta had a blonde moment last night, cuz I dont remember yer offer, unless it involved that javelina mount they auctioned... -
This bow is 29" ATA, draw length is adjustable from 25" to 30", and has a peak weight of 70 lbs. All of this is a lightweight bow and does 340 FPS IBO! It is a neat bow, but I dont need it. It sells for $700 on the PSE site and that is what I am asking, but no sales tax with me.

Whats yer point dave?

We just got 4 PSE bows donated including 1 Max Force, along with some Rinehart targets, prints, blinds and lots of other goodies. Hope it will all fit in my truck............

Dick King asked me to post this for him........ I want to try to shed a little light on what is happening. Most of you need no history about the Bowhunter Happening, as many of you have been around longer than I have, but I need to go there anyway. The BHH was originally at Mormon Lake and was a great shoot. It was in the hay days of 3-D archery. It was the “Happening” and the biggest shoot west of the Mississippi. I lived in Minnesota in those days and remember reading advertising for the BHH in Bowhunter Magazine. Unfortunately, success sometimes can be the spoiler and in this case, it was. The event became so popular that the forest service would no longer issue a usage permit because of the size or the event, the number of people it drew and the impact on the environment. At that point, they ABA had to make a decision and move off National Forest Lands. That is when the BHH moved to Fort Tuthill, which many people really did not like. It really lost a lot of the flavor of, “The Happening”. You could not camp there, you had to ride hay wagons and on and on... However, it was still a very successful shoot and it was looked forward to by many for several years. Then there came the year of the fire closers and a year with NO BHH, the county starting putting more and more restrictions on what areas we could use and what we could and could not do. Again, the BHH had to look for a new home and the City of Williams rolled out the red carpet so to speak. They treated us like Royalty and did everything possible to help make the BHH a success there. The Grand Canyon Railway came along side and offered up some 400 acres of private land. Just what was needed to assure a spot even with fire restrictions if they were to be implemented? There were drawbacks though, people missed the tall pines, and they hated the hay wagon rides from the Rodeo Grounds to the courses. Being in town offered new avenues for some but most longed for days of old. Being back out in the forest and having that feeling of a community of bowhunters sharing a long weekend “in the forest”. Now the Railroad is being sold, Williams is going through changes. The property that we used is no longer a guarantee for the future and we as a board have had to make some decisions. Sunrise Resort became an option for us, as we need property that is not governed by forest service permits that will only allow a restricted number of users per event. We met with Sunrise this past winter and bounced the findings from that meeting around as a board. It had promise and was something to be explored more for the future. At that time, we had no idea the situation in Williams would change this year. When we found out the Railroad had been sold, it left us having to make a decision now, instead of in a year or two. The Sunrise Shoot is June 30th. ,31st. and July 1st. this year. With the BHH being Memorial Weekend, it gives a month between shoots. It puts us ahead of the fire season; it is a long weekend so it gives more time for the extended drive to Sunrise. In addition, it is a weekend that Sunrise Resort was open for us to use and it barely comes ahead of their summer tourist season. No more, hay rides, everyone can camp nearby, there are many tall pines, and just maybe, most of what made the Bowhunter Happening the event it was, is there. The draw back, and a huge one, and one that was and is the hardest to deal with is the Clint’s Well Shoot. I have shot that shoot myself for many years; it became a planned camping trip for my wife and me where we met friends. Going on top of them is not an easy decision to make but as an organization, we had to make a decision. I am not a close friend of Glen’s but I do consider myself a friend. Being part of making this decision was not easy but we have few options. I hope that thru some effort maybe we can make it work for everyone. Dick King ABA Vice-Chairman

All right!! I will see you there.

I think this is a very good move and the Bowhunter happening should be able to continue there and not have to move again. I am excited, because this shoot can be as close to what Mormon lake was. There is alot of camping close by, along with fishing, and there should be no more haywagons (I hope).

Anybody else going, or you gonna let me have the quad real cheap again?
-
You guys have it all wrong.......PSE stands for PiSsiE, and if you say it real fast, you have it down. I do have a question though, you spend all of that money on a Mathews and it is no faster than bows were shooting 10 years ago......why? It cant be because of the feel, is it?

1 thing that I think is a plus for this banquet is it is very family oriented. Kids are involved and have special drawings just for them, plus a special Ladies' table. There are live and silent auctions, but there are alot of bucket raffles too. Some of the items I know that wiil be there are Swaro 15x56's, 2 DB blinds, Rinehart targets, bows arrows and everything you can imagine to equip yer bow with. Also, several hunts and some Commissioner tags. Hope to see y'all there!

Usery Mountain Archery Range
bowhuntinmaniac replied to DesertBull's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Might be worth yer while to do some research and see if they still get federal funding thru the Pittman Robertson Act. If so, they could be in jeopardy of losing it. -
If I remember correctly, this hunt usually has 0 success, so I dont think you have to worry about the 1 sow quota being filled the first month............but, I could be wrong.
-
I also have this tag, have had it before and not killed. A friend drew it 2 years ago and killed his bear in June. Things we have noticed, the bears dont seem to move much until it stays warm consistently for a long time. We find no tracks on waterholes, roads, etc. until late April, which seems confusing because 22 is one of the warmer units.

My buck won a biannual Pope & Young Award
bowhuntinmaniac replied to bowsniper's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I think it all depends on how much of an ego boost you want. To me, it seems like most of the awards feed off of the hunter's egos. They want to see their name in the book, and pay for that, but when you ask the record book people, it is all to recognize the animal. Keep it on the wall to admire for yerself.
