Camera Thief in Unit 9 still going strong!

I would tend to believe a certain guide outfit is doing a lot of the thieving, so you wont know about the bulls in the area. -
AGFD hunt regulations for 2008-2010 and spring 07
bowhuntinmaniac replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
As I said before, since we are now being regulated by the amount of deer taken by gun hunters, then let's do it across the board. We need to have archery antelope hunts in all of the units that are currently not open for archery. Take the number of rifle tags, give us 30% of those tags, (should about equal 20% harvest). -

Doug, thanks for the info.......since the door is opened, maybe we can get a December archery deer hunt in 11M. The success cant be high there since there is no general hunt. I think in less than 4 years, we will see archery deer go to a draw across the state. G&f has wanted it for a long time and they finally found a way to do it. For those of you that are for a draw, be ready. As Doug said, there will probably be left over draw tags, because the hunters that shoot both bow and gun will probably apply for gun hunts, then bowhunt units that aren't in the draw. Then G&F will be getting complaints about those units being overcrowded.......then the domino effect will happen. Also, those units that are in the draw, will now fall into the "pie theory", which means bowhunters have to compete with rifle hunters for tags. If there are leftover tags, then we will lose them in a few years to gun hunters, because our application numbers aren't high enough. It is a vicious circle and we as bowhunters will lose. -
1st of all, G&F does not have hard facts on their claim, they are managing wildlife by guessing. 2nd, if the above were true, why are we being punished because we kill 1 deer to every 5 that rifle hunters take? In their hunter recruitment and retention, they are focusing on the weapon group where most hunters will join and hopefully, stay, guns. Forget the others, they simply don't care.

Well, I am not surprised at the Commission's decision........I expected it, but hoped I was wrong. Pretty soon we will be saving our money to hunt in another state. Did they give us the carrot? 13b archery deer? -
your permit dollars at work
bowhuntinmaniac replied to .270's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I meant that with housing encroachment, they would probably go thru the same stuff that the mesa range went thru a few years ago. With the offices going in there, the range will be protected from that. -
Thought you might want to see this buck !!!

hopefully the other side isn't a spike..........good buck.......go git him!! -
G&F says they are getting only about 75% mandatory reporting, and that the survey cards have better reporting results. But, I never got a survey card for archery deer, so they don't send it out to all bowhunters.

One thing to remember.......with G&F moving to the new location, they are securing the gun range there. -
Get Rid of Special Permits?
bowhuntinmaniac replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I have to say leave it as it is. The AZBGSR, and auction tags probably raise about $800,000 to $1,000,000 a year for wildlife. I think it would be hard to match that by making the hunters pay for it. Also, why make the everyday hunter pay again, if the guy with money wants to buy his way in, then let him. -
G&F doesn'tt know what the harvest numbers are...there is no mandatory reporting for gun hunters and they have less than a 50% return on survey cards. So, at best, they are guessing on 50% of the time. A great way to manage wildlife. What we need is, G&F to implement a system where they get the most accurate numbers to decide on future hunts and changes. We need mandatory reporting on all species. heck, we are almost there. We have mandatory reporting on about half of our species now.

I took this pic on Friday........I know it is hard to tell, but through my binos, it looked like this buck is like a club on the right side with points coming off of it. It looks like he may be pretty big in another month. Can anyone enlarge it enough with clarity to see details?

Can you tell?
bowhuntinmaniac replied to bowhuntinmaniac's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Yeah, maybe we can get some pics when he is done growing. -
Ok, I heard the guy was guided by McClendon and they didn't shoot it on private property, but shot it too close to houses. I heard the bull was seized by G&F and hunter and guide were cited. Oh, there is no such thing as a governor's tag.......she has nothing to do with it.

Grizzly, a draw lock for a bow is illegal in Az. I can't find it in the regs right now, but it states that a bow can not be held in the drawn position by a mechanical device. -

Scouting in unit 8 archery bull

1st of all, give her a big congrats on a fantastic tag. Buy beg or borrow a blind. Elk dont pay attention to them if you brush them in, and they will contain yer scent. Also, they will help with the amount of movement a teen can and will make. You can whisper and not be heard. They are easily moved from one place to another and you dont have to spend time setting a permanent blind up. In fact, if you dont have one, I will loan you one of mine. Look over some maps and select several places.......everything changes on opening day. You might think u have a great place and then, when you drive in, there might be 4 trucks parked where you plan to hunt. I dont want you to tell you how to have her practice, but have her run 100 yards then shoot. This will simulate what her excitement will do to her when that bull comes in. -

I went to a lot of trouble to get mine mailed. I got the letter on Friday, called and asked if there were any options and they said 'no'. Saturday morning, I went to the bank withdrew money, went to Safeway got a money order (49 cents compared to $7), went to the Post Office and mailed it so it would be there before the deadline. I even paid for the the postage to make sure it wouldnt be returned. Now, I could have an extension? Man, rules are rules........if people cant read directions, do they need to be out there with a gun? By the way .270, I got a sheep tag........you and anyone else is welcome to tag along. -

Ok, I got it backwards..........hopefully, if nothing else, he can go on the hunt, just to be in camp. -
I know I have posted this here before, but here is what a Snyper can do. The rear deploying blades keep from burning kinetic energy as it enters the animal. The head broke a rib going in and cracked 1 going out. It was a complete pass thru. Sorry, I dont have time to resize it to fit here.
