boycott the harvest survey post card!!!!

Mandatory reporting will work if it has any backbone..........if you dont turn in yer survey card, you dont hunt......it's that simple. -
boycott the harvest survey post card!!!!
bowhuntinmaniac replied to bowsniper's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
"If they use a weapon that is not as productive as modern rifles and 20% of them are able to kill something, we must stop it before they eliminate all of our animals?" dave, I must correct you..........bowhunters are not being managed by 20% kill of total bowhunters. We are being managed by 20% of the total rifle kills, which means that if rifle hunters take 100 animals in a hunt, and bowhunters take 20, we have achieved a "20% success" and that unit will be permitted the following year. This is ridiculous when G&F have no idea how many animals the rifle hunters kill in each unit. Also, why are we being discriminated against that we are allowed less than 1 deer to every 5 rifle hunters take? Return of survey cards has never hit the 50% mark, and G&F still guesses on the remainder. if they have close to 0%, they will still guess. The return of survey cards does not help the WM, it helps the branch manager. The best thing we can do is, start calling the Commissioners and writing letters, demanding to have mandatory reporting for all species, no matter the weapon type. We already have mandatory reporting for archery deer, bear, buffalo, and sheep. Why not add the rest in? -
what type of tires do you guys run?
bowhuntinmaniac replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
I just bought a set of Hankooks, I have used them before, they wear great and my particular size is $100 per tire cheaper than BFG's. -
Looks bigger to me too.......I think his only shortcomings is lack of mass above the cutters. But, a great buck with character.....congrats

Trail Cameras
bowhuntinmaniac replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
"if it's legal, it's ethical".............not necessarily true. AZG&F states that any centerfire firearm is legal for the take of big game during a general season hunt. A .25 auto is a centerfire, thus is legal, is it ethical? -
How Do We Make Changes in AG&FD?????
bowhuntinmaniac replied to m77's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I think the 1st change to take place would be to contact the Governor and request that a qualified person be appointed to the Commission that will take Mike Golightly's position. This will happen in the next 6 months or earlier. maybe we need to contact WCC and other organizations and see who is being nominated. We need to have more say so in this and not leave it up to the organizations to do it for us. As you can see, we have a poor Commission now. -
Trail Cameras
bowhuntinmaniac replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Hey dave, I'm 1 up on you. I have gotten 1 quail with my bow, but then, it was on the ground, so I guess it doesn't count. Back, to Doug's thread on a serious note....."By the use of electronic devices for attracting, locating, or pursuing game or guiding the hunter to such game, or by the use of a bow or arrow to which any electronic device is attached." According to this, all of the bears called in with an electronic call do not qualify for P&Y. No radios, actually the bear and lion guys cant have radio collars on their dogs. Personally, I dont feel that P&Y should be setting "ethics' for hunters. Those are set if you want to put yer trophy in the record book. Everyone has their own personal ethics and goes by them. Some people wont shoot more than 300 yards at an animal and some have no problem shooting 700 yards. that is their personal ethics. If a hunter wants to use a trail cam, electronic call, a chute plane, or whatever and, it is legal, then let them do it and leave them alone. -
Draw for Archery Deer from now on....
bowhuntinmaniac replied to muley's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
"How do YOU feel about the new archery changes? What do you feel it will do for the herds in the affected units." The herds will not be affected by the changes to the bowhunters. We will not be allowed to kill 1 deer to every 5 that rifle hunters take without repercussions. These changes were not made to better the deer population, as can be seen that G&F did not use any type of biologic information to determine this, it was done as a political maneuver. Our G&f went from managing game to managing hunters and with that we will all suffer until they come to their senses. -

Congrats on a great buck. Remember, you can donate yer unused tag to HOAL. -
Welcome Riley.....look like you need to take up the bow. Also, can we quit referring to baiting......G&F is already looking at outlawing it and we are just giving them more ammo.

I just got my new RXIII in, but have not messed with it at all.........I was told you read the directions and completely understan them first. I f I could not set it up, there is an instruction video.

Depends on how easy it is to brush in.......if you put it up the day before the hunt, you better brush it in real well......especially the top. I would say a minimum of 25 yards and not near a trail.

Camera Thief in Unit 9 still going strong!
bowhuntinmaniac replied to azsagebrush's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
"Well this is not far from the truth in my opinion. A friend of mine was out checking his cams and they heard some one coming down the trail to the spot of there cams. they hid in the brush to see who it was and the guy stoped and opend the camera and pulled the card out and put it in his phone or some other device and scanned through the photos. My friend being the Butt kicker he is came flying out of the brush to see what the heck this guy thought he was doing. Come to find out he is a well known outfitter in the area and thought the camera was his.( yea right). At least he did not steal the camera just used it to see what bulls were coming to the location." Boy, now I call that scouting!! -

Survey: Hunting Archery and Rifle Seasons
bowhuntinmaniac replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I have applied for rifle deer in 13B for the last 7 years so I could try to bowhunt it. I have not drawn, so now I will have those bonus points for an archery deer tag in 13B. But, I would give those points up, if we could have the entire state stay with OTC tags. One thing to remember is, the 20% is not solely based on bowhunter success, it is based on rifle hunter success. If rifle hunters kill 100 deer in 1 unit, and bowhunters kill 19 deer, we have a 19% success rate (according to G&F). If rifle hunters kill 99 deer and bowhunters take 20 deer, then we have hit the magical mark, so that unit would be permitted the following year. AZ#1, a few years ago, when G&F wanted to permit Kaibab, they estimated 3400 archery deer hunters there. They are speculating issuing 1850 deer tags next year........I dont think it will only be non residents that won't be hunting there. So, where do you think the other 1550 bowhunters will go? Units 10, 5B,7, 6A will be my guess. Then people will complain and tell everybody it is too crowded. Then G&F will be making those a draw also. There will be no end until is all permitted. -

bowhuntinmaniac replied to azsagebrush's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I know that a wildlife manager had 2 dept cams stolen and they had, "property of AZ Game and Fish Department" printed on them. So I doubt it will work to print anything on them, if nothing else, they will smash them. -

what is the reason to have her shoot expandables? Check to see what her KE is. But, I would look into a fixed blade like Slick Trick.
