I wasnt trying to be funny..........we have recovered animals before by going back and following the smell. In fact, last year, my friend shot a Coues and had great blood then nothing. he searched for hours and couldnt find it. He went back 3 days later and followed the smell to his buck. The deer was less than 100yds form where he was looking. He was able to recover the antlers, which he tagged and eventually scored 98 2/8.

Go back in a few days and follow the smell.

Say goodbye to Dec. coues hunts.
bowhuntinmaniac replied to Redbeard's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
You are only seeing a small portion of what G&F wants to do. 1) they want to shorten the December deer tags. 2) they want to shorten the September archery bull tags. 3) they want to shorten the archery December deer hunt. 4) they want to shorten the archery January deer hunt. Their overall reasoning is to create more opportunity, but they dont see that they are taking away opportunity, to try to accomplish this. -
Nice Bucks!! Congrats.............yer dad sure looks grumpy for killing sucha purty buck.

Remember to sit down 1/2 hour after your shot. This gives the animal a chance to slow down and maybe bed down if the hit is marginal. Also, it gives you a chance to calm down and think baout hwat to do next, i.e. mark where you were standing, where the deer was standing and last place you saw it run. Also, Muzzys suck!!

GAME AND FISH TO CHANGE HUNT STRUCTURES
bowhuntinmaniac posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
tHE GAME AND FISH dEPT. IS PLANNING TO CHANGE THE HUNT STRUCTURES AND DATES ON MOST BIG GAME IN AZ. ONE PLAN IS TO TAKE 1/2 OF ALL ARCHERY BULL TAGS AND MAKE THEM "ANY" ELK TAGS AND PUT THEM IN NOVEMBER AFTER THE RIFLE HUNTS. ALSO, THEY PLAN TO TAKE ALL BUT 50 WHITETAIL TAGS FROM DECEMBER AND PUT THEM IN OCTOBER. THEIR REASONING IS TO CREATE MORE HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES BUT TO KEEP THE SUCCESS LOW. IT IS TIME TO GET INVOLVED; There is a game and fish commission meeting this friday and saturday in Casa Grande that Leonard Ordway (Game Branch Chief) will be presenting the Draft Arizona Game and Fish Department Guidelines and Recommendations for the 2006-2007 Hunting and Trapping Seasons. The meeting starts friday morning at 8:00 am and will be at Francisco Grande Resort - 26000 West Gila Bend Highway, Casa Grande. This item about the archery elk hunts should be presented friday mid morning. This will be the only public meeting that both the game and fish dept. and commissioners will discuss this issue before the hunt set meeting in april. the other regional meeting will only have the dept. there. We need to convince the commissioners because they are the ones that actually give this proposal the ok. Therefore, this fridays meeting is very important for all hunters to attend. 2006 Public Hunt Guidelines Meetings January 12, 2006 ? Anybody lose a 2003 Dodge 4wd quad cab? Well, I found it yesterday.......bad thing is, there is not much left........but it looks like it was a nice truck at one time. I was going to report it, but didnt have time to show the Deputy how to get to it, and there is no way they will find it otherwise. -
2006 License and non permit tag
bowhuntinmaniac replied to Kevin's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
There are no caps on over the counter tags. You might want to pick up a left over javelina tag......never know what u might run into. -
Look around Grandview, in the transition area of pine/juniper. As Dry as it is, they are hitting water.

My arrow weighs about 450 grains, with the BH. From the factory, the bow was shooting a 350 grain arrow at 324 FPS........dont know its speed with my combo, but it still fast.
-
Bass, Just wanted to say thanks for the Snyper Broadheads.........I put them to good use. I also took a Whitetail buck with one. Thanks again, Garth

Hey Doug, I kept the back half of the hide, but havent decided what to do with it yet......gotta come up with some more money to get it tanned.....$18.50 sq.ft. adds up fast.
-
Thanks Keith........oh, those pups are getting big..........will try to send you a pic.
-
Scotty, the cost was $1600.........seems like a great deal for a bull. Bass, I could mail some meat to you, but the mailman might keep it. Seriously, if you get up to Flag, let me know. Thanks again.

I will have to get the name of the place........my fiend's cousin, who lives there set it up. I was shooting a Bowtech Allegiance at 70 lbs, 31 1/2" long 2314 arrows tipped with a Snyper. Penetration was to the fletching. My friend shot his bull with a Parker set at 63 lb, carbon arrows tipped with Muzzys and had great penetration also. One thing I learned abouit buffs.......the ribs are not as thick as I had thought, but it is hard to determine where the lungs lay.

Ok, I have to tell you this wasnt actually a hunt. It was on a ranch in North Dakota. The meat completely boned out, filled 1 1/2 large chest freezers, and was a lot of work.

This man was a bowhunter to the core...............and was an excellent representative of what a sportsman should be. Did you know he invented the cushion plunger? He was so excited to draw his bull tag, but to top it off with his bighorn tag........well, he doesnt have to wait to hunt anymore. GO GET "EM NORM!!

Unless yer hunt is in the next couple of weeks, you may want to save yer gas and scout in November. it all depends on what weather we get before yer hunt, on where they will be.

Arizona laws regarding scouting with airplanes

It's still harrassment of wildlife if they ran from the plane being so close..........I would have called it in right then, but it's never too late. Probably a big guiding group............can you say USO?? -
I talked to a Commissioner today, and we both read the agenda for the next meeting. There is nothing about banning bait or salt for big game, (except it is illegal to use any attractant for bear).. Also, he said he has never heard anything about this coming before the Commission.
