Talked to forest service Friday and they said 300 open from 260 side. 87 side still closed for road maintenance. Fished Woods Canyon Saturday. Like PRDATR said they were skinny.

I called Monday and they said closed still. Maybe open in 2 to 3 weeks?

All good choices suggested. I'm with mbiewer and vote GSP (no offense to the lab guys here). They can't tail whip you to death and are GREAT with kids. They will hunt all day long and then be your best friend watching tv on the sofa. They are high energy though and need to run. Got my latest from Cavalry on this site. That would do it. Went deer hunting with a guy who took 2 gallon jars of pickled eggs and 2 cases of Schlitz beer. All animals took off during the night and I left the next morning! I think it killed the trees in that camping spot!

I called last week and they said still closed.

My Dad and I were scouting for elk in 5BN several years ago. We sat and listened to the Bulls bugling til about 1:00 in the morning. There were some real growlers going at it. After it quieted down my Dad decided it was time to answer the call of nature. He tried to sit up on the air mattress and kept falling over . After it happened a couple of times I decided to help him up. Sure enough the same thing was happening to me. We couldn't get shoes on while sitting on the mattresses. We started laughing so hard we almost didn't get out of the tent in time! - opening day of that hunt we were glassing a meadow when an Ultralight came buzzing over us at very low altitude. About 2 minutes after he passed us there were a bunch of shots from the direction he had headed. Called game and fish but never heard if they caught those guys.

That is a beautiful hike. I'd be a LOT more worried about buzztails than bears! Enjoy it and share some pictures when you get back!

Was born into it. My earliest memories include going to the desert shooting 22's and having picnics. Every summer we would vacation in Colorado and fish. Dove and quail hunting and finally going deer hunting and putting in for elk. My Dad loves the outdoors and raised us to Love it too.
