I think that deductions shouldn't be given for a deer in velvet. It is about the kill but it score adds to the fun of going after the 100" mark with a bow. And if you think about it, you woul have to shoot a 105" + buck that isn't even fully grown to go the 100 mark. That means that deer fully grown could be 108-110. That pic is easily noticeable that it could grow easy 1/2-1 inch all over. That's a big difference IMO.

By the vegetation being green, doesn't that mean its getting water?
-
Yes vegetation is green. Your guys responses is exactly what I was thinking. Really weird too

I shot this last week. He was about 100 pounds with no food in him. I will post the video of me shooting him as well but I cant figure it out. Was honestly the hunt of my life so far and so grateful that I am able to hunt like I do.

Bull Basin Archery (New store hours)

I just switched over from another place and got my new bow there. Very knowledgeable and didn't keep pushing me for a Mathews. They appreciated that I love Hoyt and set it up perfect for me. -
You will still not see much hardcore rutting action in my opinion. You may see a buck every now and again following does but it's not anything like mid January. Don't waste your time with rattling. You are on a rifle hunt. What is nice about your hunt is not so much the timing as it is there is no one else out there with you. Don't get me wrong it is nice tag, but its not full blown rut. Get up high and just glass. There are tons of deer there. You will be fine.

I really appreciate the info guys. I am just going to follow the bugles and cut them off. And during the evening sit on a tank of some sort. It's funny you said that the problem with bull hunting is the cows. I shot a bull in 6a about 7 years ago and the biggest problem I had was there was too many elk! Not really makes it close to impossible letting 40-50 cows walk by you undetected and draw back on the bull in back. Now what is nice is I can fling an arrow at first thing I see.

Little more than 2 months and I will be headed to New Mexico for my annual bird slaughter. Who else is ready to go? I am so pumped and look forward to the echoing of the "GOBBLE" thru the canyons.

Would you be interested in selling just the rifle without the scope?
-
I like to see them strutting. Thanks for sharing

Yeah I've been hammering the call as well non stop. Wife wants to kill me every morning. I then practice on way to and from work everyday so she doesn't have to hear it. It should be a really good year due to moisture up north. At least that's what I keep telling myself. As you know, those birds can make your trip the best ever, or make you break shotgun over your knee.

That's awesome. I'm hoping for more snow. For some reason it seems to help us out during April. The greener the better I feel.
