While we are on the math stuff... Fy2011 AZGFD budget $106,663,100.00 That breaks down to $ 8,888,591.67 per Bighorn Sheep that has been killed in the Catalinas thanks to AZGFD Or It breaks down to $106,663,100.00 per Jaguar that AZGFD has killed. And if you consider the population of Jaguars in Wyoming which is 0 compared with the population of Jaguars in AZ which is some times 3. So you can see that we have to spend more to kill a Jaguar, because our population is 3x as much as Wyoming. And obvisouly since the supply of Jaguars is more in AZ the demand is much higher which explains why we spend more for dead Jaguars. Hang on and I will crunch some more numbers and come up with the supply and demand for dead Bighorn sheep.... It breaks

They are public enemy #1, #2, and #3 in my mind. I don't agree with this... I would put some others higher on the list. 1. Obama 2. Holder 3. Biden 4. Sebelius 5. Reverend Al Sharp ton 6.Harry Reid 7. Nancy Pelosi 8. Chuck Schumer 9. Janet Napolitano 10. AZ G&F

Yes it is at taxpayers expense... every time you buy any hunting or fishing gear you pay a Pittman Robinson Act tax. That Pitman Robinson Act tax goes to fund our game and fish departments. Now, not everyone pays this tax. But hunters and outdoorsmen pay this tax and have every right to complain how it is used. Also, Game and Fish is the recipient of federal grants, that is also tax dollars.

If I lived closer, I would probably at least sneak up to the quaranteed perimeter, or perhaps a bit beyond if no one was looking and wail on a predator call for a stand or two...or maybe three if it feels good! Does anyone make a "Sheep in Distress" call?
-
You can hunt in the area, you just can't hike off the trails. So go set up on the trail and call, just watch out for the hippie hikers who will walk up on you and start screwing with you. And hope that the lion walks in on the trail and dies on the trail so you can retrieve him.Not so fast... the USFS website says the entire Sheep Reintroduction area is closed to entry... another restriction and loss of hunting opportunity... http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB5446651

According to the USFS website, the entire Sheep Reintroduction area is closed to entry... so even if you want to help kill lions, that opportunity has been taken away from you as a hunter. http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/coronado/news-events/?cid=STELPRDB5446651

Anything we can do to stop the money hungry machine that is AZGFD?
AZLance replied to bonecollector777's topic in The Campfire
Jim, have there been open forums like this in the past? And if so what issues were brought up by hunters? And how did the department act on these issues? I know I spent a ton of time and G&F meetings and thought I was doing some good...but soon realized that they didn't care and had their minds made up way in advance. -

Maybe if you added up the values of the last 3 trucks I have owned it might come to $45,000, but a $50k truck...I don't think I will ever spend that kind of money on a truck. And as for the toy hauler... I hope I win the lottery and can buy one some day. And the $2500 rig I shoot, I think you added an extra zero on that number... my bow cost $300 and my best rifle cost $375... So I think you got the wrong guy here... -

Hopefully its more interactive than the commission meetings where the commissioners eat lunch, text, take phone calls, check Facebook, and get up and walkout during the public comment time. -

Like I said above I will root for them... let's just hope they do better in the post season than their football team...

Excellent post Mr Smith. People love to spout off about things, but when the facts are laid out it gets real quiet. -
Yes its hard to swallow that loss... but with that said maybe this will work out good for the Arizona basketball program. This team may well be the most talented team in the nation, but they need time to mature. The only Senior on the team is Jordan Mayes and he is the 8th man. Hopefully Arron Gordon, Nick Johnson, and Kaleb Tarzuski will realize they are not ready for NBA. That would be the best outcome of this season, returning everyone but Mayes. And with the number 1 recruiting class in the nation coming in next year it can only get better. So as hard as it is to say... good luck Devils. I will put away my pride and root for you in the NIT tournament.

We can't start talking about baseball... club hockey season is still going on for ASU...

Congrats Scumdevils, and good luck in the NIT tournament...

Sounds like some Lacey Act violations as well could be tacked on, provided the statue of limitations hasn't run out.

Agreed it is probably way more than 1 million wasted. This audit was a limited one and not for the entire budget and agency... -

Beware of Sonoran Outfitters!

Wow... that's insane. and I am sure we're not talking just a few hundred dollars here -
Unfortunately unless you are a lion hunter working for the AZGFD you can't hunt lions with dogs in the sheep area due to the closures game and fish imposed. No dogs allowed in the sheep area, and No going off trail in the sheep area. So even if hunters wanted to go predator hunt on their own...they can't! This whole area is off limits to hunters now. More closures and restrictions on hunting in AZ.
