I would personally call game and fish and let them deal with it instead of playing vigilante. But you know how those local boys are in unit 23... maybe someone should personally call the cops on you and your friends for stealing cams? In the case above, I did call the sheriff, but to this day, I have not gotten my camera or stand back, and no one has been charged yet.

Might want to check to be sure, but my interpretation is that putting out corn is illegal regardless of when it is done. There is nothing in the law that translates to "during a hunting season." Also, take note of the OR in "for the purpose of attracting or taking big game" under 4A. R12-4-303. Unlawful Devices, Methods, and Ammunition 4. An individual shall not use edible or ingestible substances to aid in taking big game. The use of edible or ingestible substances to aid in taking big game is unlawful when: a. An individual places edible or ingestible substances for the purpose of attracting or taking big game, or b. An individual knowingly takes big game with the aid of edible or ingestible substances placed for the purpose of attracting wildlife to a specific location. 5. Subsection (A)(4) does not limit Department employees or Department agents in the performance of their official duties. 6. For the purposes of subsection (A)(4), edible or ingestible substances do not include any of the following: a. Water. b. Salt. c. Salt-based materials produced and manufactured for the livestock industry. d. Nutritional supplements produced and manufactured for the livestock industry and placed during the course of livestock or agricultural operations. Hi Tony, check your message box, I sent you a couple a couple of months ago.

Here is what AZGFD had to say about placing bait out for feral hogs on CWT.com forums back on Jan 15th, 2013 "OK, hogs are not wildlife. So you can use bait for hogs. But if you placed bait for hogs, then you cannot hunt deer over that bait. In fact, if you know someone else placed the bait for hogs, you cannot hunt deer over it. Big game is defined in statute (A.R.S. 17-101((3)). They include wild turkey, deer, elk, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, bison, peccary, bear and mountain lion. Brian Wakeling Game Branch Chief" So what I take from this is if you put out "bait" for feral hogs it is legal. You can not kill a deer over this bait, because it was put out for feral hogs. But if you had a trail cam on the bait pile and there were deer on it that would be OK, as long as you don't hunt a big game species over that bait. Now the real grey area is how close to the "bait" area can you hunt without being guilty of hunting over bait? Do you need to be 100yds away? 1/4 mile away? Out of sight?

http://m.azstarnet.com/news/local/arizona-wildlife-manager-accidently-kills-endangered-red-squirrel/article_1bc6b690-3f8f-53a2-aaab-019b85ec0cae.html?mobile_touch=true I really couldn't care about a stupid red squirell, but this department seriously needs to start issuing knee high muck boots to its employees. They just can seem to miss stepping into it. More great press for our beloved department...

What were you using?

I know a few guys that confiscated all the trail cams and stands that were on a salt lick ... that don't make it right. Its called stealing.

If you put the corn out for a non big game species such as Feral Hogs it is perfectly legal. And maybe if your lucky a buck will come into your non big game corn pile.

They have been strutting and gobbling in units 34 a and 35 for two months now... these 85 degree days down here have them thinking spring is almost over.

Rolling Hills golf course is loaded with them...

Cool. Every once in a while I see them walking right down the street in the middle of the city where I live.

I could actually agree with this... maybe we need to present Game and Fish a list of recommendations to consider before next release. Now if they listen that is a different story. Maybe go back and look at what worked in past sheep releases that went well, and try to duplicate. I have a feeling that the enviros weren't involved, and a large population center didn't surround the release areas that have succeeded. At this point I'm just saddened as a hunter who would love to draw a sheep tag, at the loss of hunting opportunity that these dead sheep represent. Hopefully we as hunters can rebuild our reputations after this nightmare, and the department can live and learn from this mistake.

Our Bighorn Sheep Slaughter Made Fox News

If you don't support the AZGFD and the sheep relocation you are a Racist! (Just putting a Obama twist on this) And its Bush's fault! -
Any kind of EMP attack by China, Russia, or a terrorist attack will knock your electronic lock out of commission. You can have your electronic lock changed to standard combination lock by almost any safe or lock company.

My bad lol. That study was about lions in a colder climate so I would guess they require a higher caloric intake than the ones here in Arizona. Does anyone know of any similar studies conducted in the Southwest? AZ G&F is currently studying lions in the Catalina Mountains... and so far it turns out that it is correct, they kill about 1 sheep a week. Study is ongoing for at least another 15 bighorns. Then they will re evaluate and decide if they want to continue studying(feeding) the lions.
-
How about they auction 15 tags off for "any sheep" and let hunters kill the remaining 15 before the lions kill them. At least the department could make some money and put it towards existing sheep habitat enhancements.
-
3 out of 100 lions... doubt that will make much of a difference. Well we are 4 months into this project and already 50% mortality rate. I think its time to catch the remaining sheep and relocate them back to their home unit before we reach 100% mortality.

Took a another new hunter out today for a free guided hunt. He isn't a kid as usual but was as excited as a kid when he smoked this Javalina with one shot at 75 yds. This might have been the most work I have ever put into a Javalina hunt. We glassed the pigs up first thing this morning about 1.5 miles away and about a 800' elevation climb thru shin dagger covered hills. These pigs were on the move instead of their casual feeding routine I had become acostomed to in this area. I got Dan all the way up to the ridge top where they disappeared in our glasses. We sat patiently for about a hour until one of them showed himself thru the thick scrub brush. We made a short stalk to get with in 75 yds and they came walking out single file. Dan quickly found them in the scope and squeezed off a perfect shot.

jag critical habitat established. any predictions?
AZLance replied to biglakejake's topic in The Campfire
"ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- Federal wildlife officials Tuesday set aside nearly 1,200 square miles along the U.S.-Mexico border as habitat essential for the conservation of the jaguar, a species that hasn't been spotted in New Mexico in eight years and one that has made only fleeting appearances on wildlife cameras in Arizona's Santa Rita Mountains." Fleeting appearances? I have over 60 confirmed sightings alone of a Jaguar and there are others with confirmed sightings which put total confirmed sightings well over 100. There has been confirmed sightings for over 3 years all in the same area, so the myth that Game and Fish like to portray that they sometime wonder north of the border is a self created myth by azgfd. And there are new pictures that have not been released yet that show there is more than one jaguar roaming southern AZ. I am not supporting closing off any public lands or restricting use... but if they do cut back on deer tags maybe this would be a good thing being that G&F are issuing way too many tags as it is. -
