Recent Jaguar Pics and other critters down south
AZLance replied to arizonaelkhunter's topic in The Campfire
Not a Jaguar. Most likely a colorful bobcat. As 520Hunt mentioned above it does not have a long tail like a Jaguar or Ocelot would. It appears to have a small Bobbed tail as most bobcats have. Also a close look at the spots and you will see that they are solid spots. jaguars like in the picture Patrick posted above have spots that are circled in black and a darker shade of orange/yellow in the middle. Lastley the size is the biggest giveaway. The size is more consistent with a bobcat. The Jaguar that is roaming southern AZ right now is very similar in size to a large tom mtn lion. Secondly game and fish is the last people I would tell about it. Remember what happened to the last jaguar they found... the! University of Arizona is the one currently running the Jaguar Project for the USFWS. -

I heard today from a reliable source that the Forests will close very soon and your tag will be worthless... -

This is begging to be worse than the Obamacare website... -
I'm looking to get a new gps, and just looking for your recommendations for something that works well, and finds satellites quickly, and stores a lot of waypoints.

Why not?

I just hope the closure lasts thru the early elk hunts... can't wait to see all the people calling for closures to change their mind and start complaining about their rights being violated. -
Gotta watch to see the reality of what goes on on our border. Special Report: Reality of the Border:

What I was told is that the Coronado and the Coconino were already in the planning stages and it is just a matter of time. Last time they did it, a couple of forests closed, then the rest followed suit quickly after. Pray for rain! -
Wearing the rubber off of your boots will help... these are a few that I found this year that are not on maps...

My bad Edge, I swore the topic of this thread that you started was "State Land Trust Question". State Land rules says you must only be 1/4 mile away from a residence. Sorry to ruffle your feathers.
-
No such thing as a 1 mile rule... I love it when people make stuff up!

Dangit! I wish I had the tag this year! What would be a good caption for the first pic? "Hey, Want to go back to my place?"

Anything ever come of the last meeting?

You need to Calibrate the compass. Every time you change the battery or travel a long distance from where you used it last, you will need to calibrate the compass. Pretty simple, select menu from your compass page and select "calibrate". Then you usually turn slowly in a circle 2 times and it is calibrated. It is different on different modules, but look it up in your manual or Google how to do it for your model.

Just called...No one answered... now what? I called earlier and the lady said they don't have anymore information than what is on their web page.

I used to guide with Rincon Outfitters, before I retired from guiding, and can say for a fact that Rom Dryden knows unit 27 as good as anyone. Check out his Rincon Outfitters web site and look at all the elk his clients take. It speaks for itself.

I wouldn't say don't hunt down south, but I would recommend that you don't take a knife to a gun fight. Go prepared, which means you can never have to much ammo. I have seen mules and armed dope loads on multiple occasions while hunting in southern Arizona. Even got shot at by armed mules in 35b several years ago. But you know what...I still go and hunt down there. Maybe its the side of me that likes living dangerously, or maybe its the beautiful country and abundance of wildlife that draws me back. Not real sure. But I can tell you its not for the faint of heart!
