Mountain lion in a cage trap!
AZLance replied to Don Martin's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
is there a trapping season on lion though? in certain areas? No, since lions in AZ are big game animals, they can not be legally trapped. In this case the only thing the trapper could do was release it unharmed. I told him that he should do a lot of calling in the area and I'll bet that lion would come back. He said the "pucker factor" was big on both of the releases! Here is a photo of a lion I called in on my brother's javelina hunt in Unit 18B a few years ago. This gal came in in less than 10 minutes and on the dead run. My brother shot her with a Mini-14 at 21 steps as she was closing in. The lion had a newly eaten pig in her stomach, so she came in just to kill, not cause she was hungry. Don Martin AWO But as soon as it steps out of the cage, it is considered released and may be shot, you just cant shoot it in the cage... right? -

You can have all the laws you want on the books, and tripple the fines and punishment, but it will have NO effect on poaching if there are not enough wildlife officers out there to patrol. That is the case right now. There is not even one officer for every unit. The Game and Fish is underfunded and understaffed. Also you might want to look at the priorities the department has. Instead of doing a survey on the leopard frog, or chasing down kids on ATV's, those resources could be better used to fund the enforcement of the wildlife laws.

Amanda, If you continue to let Jamaro spew his political rehtoric and democratic talking points, some on this form may be led to violence, and then Jamarro will blame you instead of talk radio and fox news... -

The shooter was a left wing nutcase... His classmates here in Tucson were calling into the radio station tonight, telling that he was a pot head... Check out the article below.. http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=248829 -
In Tucson, the police wont repond to traffic accidents, or gasoline drive off's anymore due to budget restraints, so why would they respond to fireworks... On new years eve, it sounded like bagdad in my neighborhood, and not a police officer to be seen.

Game and Fish is LOST!!!! They are good intentioned people, but when it comes to issuing tags they have no clue. My first choice for my son and I for Javalina was general 33, but we were issued tags for 34A which was our second choice. The problem is that our first choice General 33, still had 300+ left over tags. I checked the copy I made of my application, and sure enough I did it right. So I asked G&F what in the world was going on? The lady on the phone told me that "next year put the same hunt number for your first and second choice and then you might get drawn for it." What??? I have talked to two other people that this happened to as well.

Matt, congratulations. I still remember the big smile on your face when I saw you in the field that day. That is what hunting is all about! Sooner than later you will be luckier than your dad....
