Long range accuracy from fixed blade heads???

Not to start a Pi$$ing match but that has to be one of the most ignorant things I've ever heard. The only time Fixed heads "suck" is if 1. The bow is not properly tuned or 2. The shooter has form issues. Whenever I tune my bow, after paper, walk back etc.. I shoot a fixed, mechanical (usually either rage, or T3 ) and a field point. I'm not happy until they all shoot together. Once a bow is tuned, almost any head mechanical or fixed will shoot great. I like G5 striker, montec or Wac em and now I am shooting the VPA's they are awesome. I would love to see someone shoot accurate groups at 80 yards with a fix blade as accurately as i can do with a mechanical. Fix blades take a lot more effort and time to tune to your bow. I personally have my bow paper tuned as well and it helps but they still doesn't compare to the mechanical broadheads. But thats also my opinion. You know just as well as i do, that if you ask 10 different archers one question about something you will get 10 different answers. Thanks for not taking my post as an attack, as it wasn't meant to be, and I agree everyone will have an opinion. Here is mine: I love to shoot broadheads, I shoot them all year around, I like to try and shoot as many brands, styles as I can. I have shot many, many broadheads and agree that mechanicals can be less sensitive to form. BUT for all of MY hunting applications, the difference between my mechanicals and fixed are negligible, out to my max hunting range. Shooting a fixed has two major advantages though. 1. (I like numbering my thoughts) When using a fixed head there is no premature deployment (quiver, or hitting branch or spider clip fail, or rubber band failure etc...) 2. When I practice with my fixed COC, VPA's I then can touch up the edge and hunt with them without having to take them off my arrow to change out blades or to take off the practice tip and re-screw in the hunting bh. Once my solid BH is spin tested, shot then I hunt with my practice tip WITH ABSOLUTELY NO ADJUSTMENTS TO THE ARROW/BROADHEAD except to resharpen and of course that is done without taking it off the arrow. Once thing I believe in is to shoot what you are comfortable with have confidence in, this archery game is mostly mental. One more thing, hitting an elk in the vitals at 60 yards is relativly easy, compared to hitting a coues deer. With an elk I would rather give up a minimal amount of accuracy to have a tougher, fixed head. again my opinion. And i would agree with you the mechanicals do have flaws they arent perfect. I like a lot of things about fix blades but i always have headaches getting them tuned well enough to shoot them accurately.

Fixed broadheads suck. Shoot rage or the g5 tekans they both make awesome entry and exit wounds. Plus they are extremely accurate and will normally shoot the same as your field points.

    Blind Etiquette

I would just put my own blind up and hunt out of it. If he's in his blind before you are on opening day then it's his spot. If you happen to be sitting in your blind when he comes to sit in his oh well you were there first. If its a natural blind made out of trees and brush its fair game, but if its a store bought blind leave it alone.

    5b North early archery

I drew a 5b north early archery tag this year and know nothing about the unit. It was my second choice and i didn't expect to get a tag this year with only 2 bonus points. Just curious how good the unit it is and if anyone might know a good place to start scouting? Any information would be appreciated thx.

    Is this a good rifle?

The sendero is a great gun i almost bought it. But it weighs 10 pounds without a scope on it and it cost almost $1100. So there are pro's and con's too it. If you can only spend $1500 go with a less expensive gun and better optics! There's nothing more irritating than a guy buying a super nice rifle and and putting a 3x9 bushnell scope on it! Optics are the key to shooting long range!

    Is this a good rifle?

This is my .308 i put together for about $1500. The picture of the group next to the dime was shot at 100 yards. The next group was shot at 300 yards while i was still sighting it in. The gun shot those groups straight out of the box with nothing done too it. I did replace the trigger with a 1 1/2 timney trigger and had custom turrets made for it.

    5b North early archery

Well i didn't think i was going to get drawn this year so i just put in for hunts some what close to my house. (My first choice was 5bs) Anyway thanks for the info guys. I have already checked out the g&f website and read up on it a little. I was just curious if it was a good unit or not.

    Is this a good rifle?

I would also consider getting custom turrets for your scope. I took mine to a gun smith he shot it through a chronograph. Averaged my muzzel speed and made me a custom turret so i can shoot exact distance up to 1000 yards. They are awesome takes out all the guess work. It cost me $175 for mine. Also certain scope manufacturers offer deals when you by the scope they will build you custom turrets for free you just have to send them back in with your specs. (I know leupold does anyway). Good luck ill post some pictures of mine later if i get some time.

    Is this a good rifle?

I bought a remington 700 sps varmint in a .308 (i believe they make it in 7mm also) paid $450. I put a leupold vx3 8.5x20x50mm on it for just under $1500. I shoot 1 inch groups at 300 yards with it straight out of the box. Its a great gun for the price you should check it out. From what i hear those savage rifles are very nice too just thought i would give you some more options.

    Change of the Rules

I would rather shoot 10 decent elk in my life time then wait 10 years between each hunt and kill 2 or 3 big bulls. Its all about priorities and choices. If you don't like your choices then make different ones and stop blaming everyone else for getting tags because your not "lucky" enough to get drawn. Its a fair system keep it.

    6A Archery Bull September hunt

-1 For not sitting water. If your a new archery hunting sitting a treestand or blind can be a great way to get your first couple kills. Other then that i agree with average joe.

    6A Archery Bull September hunt

I had that tag in 2010 when the unit was separated into 3 units. (6a west, north, and south) I had the west unit there wasn't too much hunting pressure in that area. I was in bulls almost every day of the hunt off schniebly hill rd west of the 17. Its a pretty good unit but with that many hunters its going to be a tough hunt! I would suggest getting up there and claiming some water holes before they are all claimed. We killed 3 bulls off of water just south of schniebly hill rd. (A 5x5,6x2, and a 6x6). Its a pretty good unit but its probably going to be really crowded on the weekends. Congrats on the tag and good luck.

    The Early 3B bull hunts

Wow sounds like there is some tag envy going on here. I believe he asked if anyone knew how good the unit was? Sounds like people are hating on the guy for drawing the tag to me. Who cares how he drew the tag! Congrats on the tag man i hope you drop a big one.

    The Early 3B bull hunts

3b is an awesome unit. I hunted turkey there in august last year and had lots of shots! (Those stupid birds are tough to kill with a bow) I had my trail camera's up and every time i checked them i had a zoo of animals on it. Anything from deer, turkeys, nice elk, and bears. It will be a good time for sure.

    Coyote hunting within city limits

Well if its inside of the city of phx you can legally hunt them with a bow. Call game and fish they passed that law last year. Guys hunt dove off carfree rd all the time (when in season of course).

5b north archery bull with only 2 bonus points! I feel extremely lucky this is the second elk tag i have ever had. My second choice but i am not going to complain
